This article explores recent developments in freelance subtitling work within the audio-visual translation (AVT) industry. During the 2010s, many LSPs operating globally moved their provision of paid, professional subtitling services to cloud platforms, and I argue that such platforms, while capable of generating collaborative environments, enact information patterns which weaken the communicative and collaborative aspects of production processes, while running the risk of compromising the quality of the subtitlers’ position.

The article is devoted to solving one of the most important problems of the development of the sugar industry in Russia – the modernization of sugar production processes. Today, sugar production is actively being modernized, shifting most of its processes to the path of avomatization and optimization to improve the quality of products. This article describes one of the main ways to obtain information about the concentration of sucrose in syrup in the production of sugar.

SummaryDysphagia represents a salient concern in many conditions prevalent in older people. There are direct implications for morbidity and mortality. The importance of recognizing and managing dysphagia in hospital and the community also extends to psychosocial impact and quality of life, as well as health, economic and ethical-legal issues. This review outlines reasons for the importance of recognizing and treating dysphagia. It then proceeds to look at recent developments in our understanding of the nature, assessment and management of dysphagia in older people. Whilst there are well-established practices in assessment and management, ongoing work continues to challenge the validity and reliability of many methods. These concerns are covered and directions for future developments highlighted.

Along with recent developments in high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies and thus fast accumulation of HTS data, there has been a growing need and interest for developing tools for HTS data processing and communication. In particular, a number of bioinformatics tools have been designed for analysing metabarcoding data, each with specific features, assumptions and outputs. To evaluate the potential effect of the application of different bioinformatics workflow on the results, we compared the performance of different analysis platforms on two contrasting high-throughput sequencing data sets. Our analysis revealed that the computation time, quality of error filtering and hence output of specific bioinformatics process largely depends on the platform used. Our results show that none of the bioinformatics workflows appears to perfectly filter out the accumulated errors and generate Operational Taxonomic Units, although PipeCraft, LotuS and PIPITS perform better than QIIME2 and Galaxy for the tested fungal amplicon dataset. We conclude that the output of each platform requires manual validation of the OTUs by examining the taxonomy assignment values.

Accounting errors and fraud are common in most businesses, but there is a difference between fraud and misinterpretation of communication or accounting regulations. The role of management in preventing fraud becomes important in the last decades and the importance of auditing in curbing corruption is increasingly revealed. There is a strong connection between fraud and corruption, accelerated by electronic systems and modern platforms.The most recent developments tend to confirm that external auditing is curbing corruption, due to international accounting and auditing standards at national and regional levels. Thus, a better implementation of accounting standards and high quality of external control could prevent errors and fraud in accounting, and reduce corruption, as well.The aim of this paper is to present some particular aspects of errors and fraud in accounting, and how external audit could ensure accuracy and accountability in financial reporting.

Ethanol produced from various biobased sources (bioethanol) has been gaining high attention lately due to its potential to cut down net emissions of carbon dioxide while reducing burgeoning world dependence on fossil fuels. Global ethanol production has increased more than six-fold from 18 billion liters at the turn of the century to 110 billion liters in 2019 (1,2). Sugar cane and corn have been used as the major feedstocks for ethanol production. Lignocellulosic biomass has recently been considered as another potential feedstock. This paper reviews recent developments and current status of commercial production of ethanol across the world. The review includes the ethanol production processes used for each type of feedstock, both currently practiced at commercial scale and newly developed technologies, and production trends in various regions and countries in the world.

The paper analyzes the system of legal education in Lithuania. It provides a short historical overview and recent developments in this area. On the one hand, higher education institutions try to implement main goals of the Bologna Process and to provide two-cycle studies in the field of law. On the other hand, there are still very strong ties to the traditional one-stage model of legal studies. Thus, universities try to combine both these models and offer both two-stage and one-stage studies. In such a situation students are given an opportunity to choose the model they prefer. The paper gives an insight into the programs of studies offered by the universities in Lithuania. The last thing discussed in the article is the issue of securing quality of legal studies.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapies have been used as cell-based treatments for decades, owing to their anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and regenerative properties. With high expectations, many ongoing clinical trials are investigating the safety and efficacy of MSC therapies to treat arthritic diseases. Studies on osteoarthritis (OA) have shown positive clinical outcomes, with improved joint function, pain level, and quality of life. In addition, few clinical MSC trials conducted on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients have also displayed some optimistic outlook. The largely positive outcomes in clinical trials without severe side effects establish MSCs as promising tools for arthritis treatment. However, further research is required to investigate its applicability in clinical settings. This review discusses the most recent advances in clinical studies on MSC therapies for OA and RA.

Recently, the fabrication of electronics-related components via direct ink writing (DIW) has attracted much attention. Compared to the conventionally fabricated electronic components, DIW-printed ones have more complicated structures, higher accuracy, improved efficiency, and even enhanced performances that arise from well-designed architectures. The DIW technology allows directly print materials on a variety of flat substrates, even a conformal one, well suiting them to applications such as wearable devices and on-chip integrations. Here, recent developments in DIW printing of emerging components for electronics-related applications are briefly reviewed, including electrodes, electronic circuits, and functional components. The printing techniques, processes, ink materials, advantages, and properties of DIW-printed architectures are discussed. Finally, the challenges and outlooks on the manufacture of 3D structured electronic devices by DIW are outlined, pointing out future designs and developments of DIW technology for electronics-related applications. The combination of DIW and electronic devices will help to improve the quality of human life and promote the development of science and society.

The quality of life depends on water quality. Good water quality and the rational use of water are an absolute need of the new millennium. Although it is an ecological and health priority to prohibit the contamination of water and water protection, it is a responsibility for environmental engineers and chemists to develop and apply effective methods for monitoring and controlling of water quality, and at that way prevent ecological and technological catastrophe on time. In this paper modern methods and process for monitoring, control and detection of cyanide in water and wastewater are presented. Recent developments in instrumental techniques and treatment for determination of this toxic substance in water are described, particularly the methods according to green analytical aspects.

Alkaptonuria (AKU) is a rare disorder of autosomal recessive inheritance. It is caused by a mutation in a gene that results in the accumulation of homogentisic acid (HGA). Characteristically, the excess HGA means sufferers pass dark urine, which upon standing turns black. This is a feature present from birth. Over time patients develop other manifestations of AKU, due to deposition of HGA in collagenous tissue namely ochronosis and ochronotic osteoarthropathy. Although this condition does not reduce life expectancy, it significantly affects quality of life. The natural history of this condition is becoming better understood, despite gaps in knowledge. Clinical assessment of the condition has also improved along with the development of a potentially disease-modifying therapy. Furthermore, recent developments in AKU research have led to new understanding of the disease, and further study of the AKU arthropathy has the potential to influence therapy in the management of osteoarthritis.
