The trilogy of Eugenia Żmijewska (Little Flame, Fate, Sweetheart), published in the years 1907–1911, is a part of the popular novel at the beginning of the twentieth century about women growing to maturity. According to Grażyna Borkowska, the writer also emphasizes the topics of psychosexual maturation. The visibility of this aspect of maturation determines the originality of Żmijewska and her sense of modernist conventions, although the writer does not use such terms as intimate, corporal, or sexual. It is these problems that I look at in my article. I am interested in a much broader context of psychological (e.g. emotional, social) development during adolescence and early adulthood. I want to pay attention not only to the normative aspect of the process, but also to difficulties and disorders. Perhaps Żmijewska was an average writer, but she had good knowledge of the psychology of maturing girls and young women, especially at a time when psychology was a fairly new discipline of science.

Abstract Learning to listen and speak are well-established preludes for reading, writing, and succeeding in mainstream educational settings. Intangibles beyond the ubiquitous test scores that typically serve as markers for progress in children with hearing loss are embedded in descriptions of the educational and social development of four young women. All were diagnosed with severe-to-profound or profound hearing loss as toddlers, and all were fitted with hearing aids and given listening and spoken language therapy. Compiling stories across the life span provides insights into what we can be doing in the lives of young children with hearing loss.

Menarche is the first menstruation that usually occurs in the age range of 10-16 years or in early adolescence in the middle of puberty before entering the reproductive period. Knowledge is the result of knowing and this happens after people have sensed a certain object. Sensing occurs through the human senses, namely: vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Attitude is a reaction or response of someone who is still closed to a stimulation or object. The manifestation of that attitude cannot be directly seen, but can only be interpreted in advance from closed behavior. This research uses descriptive quantitative method, namely to find out the description of the level of knowledge of blind young women about menarche at Y Tanjung Morawa SLB 2018. During the early twentieth century, Kiowa people expertly deployed material culture as symbols of themselves as a people. Beadwork specifically illustrated the significance of kinship and is use and exchange among people, which constructed family relationships and a sense of belongingness. Beadwork and other expressive forms were highlighted in the American Indian Exposition, a fair, and an event, which provided a venue of public display that encouraged intertribal competition. The chapter also examines the representation of young women as American Indian Exposition princesses.

Mitchell’s first two novels are examined as works deploying the medium of imaginative literature for introspection and analysis of his own past. In reverse chronological order they recreate the narrative of his childhood and early adulthood, in the course of which they present a state of the nation critique of early twentieth century Britain. The forthright verisimilitude of the social realism is in keeping with the philosophical nihilism prevailing in the inter-war years, with the political responses of mainstream parties and of radical splinter groups such as the Anarchocommunist Party appearing unable to change society for the better. Mitchell’s technical experimentation with metafiction and intertextuality indicates the scale of his literary ambition, while his proto-feminist sympathies are marked by his reliance on female protagonists.

During the course of the nineteenth century, the parameters defining ‘youth’, marking its beginning and its end, were becoming more precise and more institutionally defined for both girls and boys in Europe. More than any other phenomenon or institution, elementary schooling (and leaving school) contributed to a certain ‘normalization’ of the life cycle for young people. By the end of the nineteenth century, most girls as well as boys attended school at least intermittently until at least age 12 or 13; at school-leaving a new phase of life began. Throughout much of Europe a select minority of middle-class and upper-class young women joined their brothers at universities, as higher education became first a possibility and then a routine for them in the last decades of the nineteenth and the first decades of the twentieth century.

Adopting an organizational view on social development, we have investigated how interpersonal experiences early in life predict how well individuals will resolve relationship conflicts, recover from conflicts, and have stable, satisfying relationships with their romantic partners in early adulthood. We have also identified specific interpersonal experiences during middle childhood and adolescence that mediate the connection between how individuals regulated their emotions with their parents very early in life and how they do so as young adults in their romantic relationships. We discuss the many advantages of adopting an organizational view on social development.
