Given the growing needs of renewable energy in urban areas, identifying suitable installation locations for solar systems is increasingly important. Existing energetic cadastres often have a limited level of detail in the analysed geometry, which needs to be rapidly updated following any changes to the buildings. The required 3D data can be generated by photogrammetry techniques and Structure-from-Motion (SfM) software. In this paper, the method was tested employing Digital Mapping Camera images (virtual images), on a case study in northwest Italy. The results are analysed for assessing the reliability of the DSM produced by SfM methods, to be employed in solar radiation analyses. The problem of this kind of automatic 3D modelling can be the excessive detail sometimes required in reconstructing the geometry of the roofs and the possible noise. The results are managed and analysed through Geographical Information System (GIS) tools. For the whole workflow, proprietary and free open source software (OSS) are used. The problems and limitations are investigated in order to evaluate and confirm the reliability and cost effectiveness of the described methods.

O desenvolvimento de software é uma atividade intensive em esforço humano. Assim, a forma como os desenvolvedores encaram suas tarefas é de suam importância. Em um ambiente como o usual em projetos de FOSS (free/open source software) em que profissionais (desenvolvedores pagos) compartilham os esforços de desenvolvimento com voluntários, a moral da comunidade de desenvolvedores e usuários é fundamental. Neste artigo, apresentamos uma análise preliminary utilizando técnicas de análise de sentimentos realizada em um projeto de FOSS. Para isso, executamos a mineração da lista de endereços eletrônicos de um projeto e aplicamos as técnicas propostas aos participantes mais relevantes. Embora a aplicação seja limitada, no momento atual, experamos que essa experiência possa ser benéfica no future para determiner situações que possam afetar os desenvolvedores ou o projeto, tais como baixa produtividade, abandono do projeto ou bifurcação do projeto, entre outras.

Indonesia is an archipelago country in which the tourism sector plays a role as an economic locomotive. In 2016, Indonesia joined the World Halal Tourism Award (WHTA) and won 12 awards, three of which were won by West Sumatra. Bukittinggi is the principal city of tourism in West Sumatra. There are many halal hotels and restaurants and 190 mosques available in the city. Unfortunately, the information regarding the mosque locations is still inadequate. For this reason, this research was conducted in order to develop a web-based and mobile-based geographic information system (GIS) for places of worship information (GPWI) to make it easier for Muslim tourists to find mosques, and other tourism objects and facilities. This paper reports on the development of the GPWI. The development of the GPWI employed the waterfall method. The GPWI allowed tourists to find mosques based on specific criteria, whose output showed them the location, information, route, and local transportation available to get to the mosques as well as other tourism objects and facilities around the mosque. The GPWI was developed using Free Open Source Software (FOSS) PostgreSQL/PostGIS, PHP, JavaScript, and Basic4Android. The spatial-based database and programs that were used to develop this GPWI are the main contributions of this study. Based on the product evaluation, the GPWI successfully met the needs of Muslim tourists in finding mosques during their visits to Bukittinggi.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate applicability of geographical information system (GIS) tools in assessing performance of the transportation systems which integrate spatial and GIS parameters and indicators. Design/methodology/approach – In this context, performance measures have been objectively related to the strategic goals and objectives identified by policy makers in particular areas. Findings – Results suggest that as a result of on the characteristics of transportation system, further understanding and considerations have been achieved regarding the performance of the investigated transportation systems and the needed transport polices in the study areas. Originality/value – The integrating of spatial data with the conventional data to assess performance of the transportation system.

Urban flooding in developing countries represents a growing threat to sustainable development efforts, yet the tools needed to study these infrastructure systems in data-scarce environments are woefully inadequate. This study seeks to propose a standardized approach and methods for mapping urban drainage systems in developing communities. The research draws on a case study from the Philippines, which sought to conduct rapid elevation surveys and drainage assessments employing open source geographical information system (GIS) tools. We develop a standardized procedure for digitizing drainage systems using OpenStreetMap and Field Papers, as well as discuss applications of this data for drainage design. The results contribute to a methodological framework that can be replicated in other similar developing communities where study of urban drainage is needed for sustainable development and disaster risk reduction efforts.

Infrastructure plays a pivotal role in economic development and for reduction of Households Poverty. The present study aims at investigating the effect of various kinds of infrastructure like Energy, Communication, Health, Irrigation, and Security on Households Poverty in one of the most under-developed districts of Pakistan namely Rajanpur. The survey was conducted for this purpose in the rural and urban areas and the researchers were successful to collect primary data from 300 households. The outcome of logistic regression suggests that Infrastructure in its various kinds i.e. Energy, Communication, Health, Irrigation, and Security are found as sources of lower Households Poverty. Moreover, Age, Education, Income, and value of assets tend to reduce Households poverty while Households poverty is increasing due to large family size and in urban areas of District Rajanpur. It is suggested that Government should give special attention to the provision of 5G internet technologies, access to clean drinking water, and disbursal of soft loans for the solar systems for the under-developed districts of Pakistan.

Abstract This article studied the location of dry ports from the perspective of reducing impacts caused by seaport activities on the urban environment. The main objective was to construct a model based on multiple-criteria decision analysis coupled with the geographical information system for selecting areas subject to the location of dry ports. An important point was the definition of restriction and factor criteria for the preparation of this model. The distance from the seaport was defined as the most relevant criterion, followed by the road hierarchy network, population density, vegetation, and declivity, respectively. The predominant restrictive criteria were: permanent conservation areas and non-building zones. For the validation of the model presented, it was necessary to perform a case study on a city located near a seaport, and that has been legalized seaport activities in its legislation. The result showed that the areas nearest to the port, with less density of household units, and located near main roadways are the most feasible for location of dry ports. It was proven that the usage of multi-criteria analysis for selecting areas subject to the location of dry ports can be a manner for added support in the preparation of master plans for cities surrounded by seaport areas.

Abstract Resource efficiency is the primary element of the European Union's ‘Europe 2020’ strategy for the economic growth. It aims at stimulating economic growth which will be smart, sustainable and inclusive. Proper land use is beneficial to the economic development and it contributes to the improvement of living conditions considering the principle of sustainable development. Geographical information systems are the perfect tools enabling effective spatial planning. GIS technology allows to carry out complex analysis, which enable a comprehensive environmental and urban assessment. Using GIS tools gives also a possibility to assess different variations of land use in the future. The article presents the results of the analyses carried out on the basis of DTM and DSM, which purpose was to assess the potential of solar energy of the selected area. It was shown the possibility of using the roof surface of old buildings in a chosen part of Bydgoszcz to install solar systems on them.
