Objective: To review cervical smear results in women of reproductive age group. Study design: Descriptive study. Place andduration of study: This study was carried out at the pathology department, Railway hospital, Islamic International Medical College Trust.Rawalpindi, from Jan 2007-Dec 2010. Materials and methods: A total of four hundred and seventy seven cervical smears were included in thestudy. Inclusion criteria was females of reproductive age group. Smears from postmenopausal women and those who had hysterectomy wereexcluded from the study. The cervical smear was taken using modified Ayres wooden spatula, or plastic spatula, to collect endocervical sample. The slides prepared were immediately fixed in 95% ethyl alcohol, and were subsequently stained by the recommended procedure of Papstaining. After staining, the slides were mounted with Canada balsam and finally reported by the cytopathologist according to the BethesdaSystem. Results: Four hundred and seventy seven patients were included in the study. Most of the patients belonged to low socio economicstatus. The cytological examination of the smears showed inflammatory changes in 33% (n=159) cases, normal smears/ no positive finding in25% (n= 118) cases, while reactive changes were seen in 2% (n= 10). Dysplastic changes were seen in 2 %( n= 10), while unsatisfactory/Inadequate samples were reported in 38 %( n=182) cases.

Relevance: red lichen planus refers to a long, protracted disease with a chronic course. There are a lot of root causes, it is quite difficult to differentiate them. Therefore, pharmacotherapy of this pathology is reduced to the appointment of local drugs that have only symptomatic effects that help accelerate the healing of the oral mucosa.Purpose – to study reparative regeneration based on the analysis of clinical and cytological examination on the background of the appointment of various methods of pharmacotherapy.Materials and methods: all patients were divided into two groups using simple randomization: in patients of the first group, betamethasone B was used to treat erosive-ulcerative lesions, which were delivered to the lesion using Tisol, which has conductive transcutaneous activity, using the sandwich technique. The second group of patients used the drug delivery system in the form of a film, which fixed betamethasone B in the lesion area. Results: were evaluated before treatment, on day 7 and 14. The area and intensity of healing of the oral mucosa were determined, a qualitative and quantitative analysis of cytograms was carried out, which characterizes the dynamics of reparative regeneration of erosions and ulcers. Conclusion: based on the obtained clinical and laboratory data, it can be concluded that it is advisable to include betamethasone applications in the pharmacotherapy of patients with erosive and ulcerative forms of lichen planus. However, preference should be given to the method of layer-by-layer application of betamethasone B in combination with Tezol.

Cytohistological comparisons to the account of the clinical data and revision of cytological and histological preparations on a material received from 21 patients are made. Cytomorphological features of juvenile nevi (Spitz-nevus, Reed-nevus), dysplastic and atypical nevi and early forms of melanoma are described. The establishment at cytological examination of good-quality character of melanocytic defeats at the account of the clinical data could be the basis for appointment laser therapy. At revealing of atypical melanocytes in cytological preparations patients should be referred to specialized oncological institutions for surgical excision of tumor with the subsequent histological examination. Thus cytological examination could be used in dermatological practice as a method of screening pre-malignant melanocytic tumors and skin melanoma.

The results of 205 puncture biopsies of solid and cystic pancreatic lesions performed in 202 patients at the Republican Oncological Dispensary of the Republic of Karelia for a 7-year period (2009-2015) are presented. Informative material for morphological investigation was obtained in 95.5% of cases. A comparison of results of cytological examination of the material from 56 patients with pancreatic lesions with histological data was carried out. The efficiency of the cytological method was 90.6%, sensitivity - 87.8%, specificity - 100%. To determine histological form of tumor in cytological examination of the material of the pancreas was successful in 82.1% of cases.

Cytological examination of smears from the sediment after centrifugation of pleural fluids was performed in 479 patients who underwent examination and treatment at our institution in 2014-2016. In 249 (52%) patients tumor cells were not detected in smears, in 230 (48%) observations a suspicion (28 observations) or a confident conclusion (202 observations) on the presence of malignant tumor cells in the exudates was cytologically expressed. In 38 cases immunocytochemical studies was additionally performed. In two observations a false-negative conclusion about the absence of tumor cells in smears was expressed. The sensitivity of the cytological study in the diagnosis of malignant pleuritis was 99.0%. Affirmative cytological conclusions on the presence of malignant pleuritis were given in 87.0% of observations, suspicious cytological responses - in 12.0% of cases. Immunocytochemical studies significantly expanded the possibilities of cytological research and were of great importance in the diagnosis of metastases of tumors of unknown primary localization.

Abstract National cervical screening programs have played a pivotal role in the prevention of cervical cancer. However, practices across the UK have reached an all-time low in cervical screening uptake. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of implementing an automated voice message reminder within the local general practice (GP) telephone triage system and explore the reasons which deter eligible patients away from cervical screening. A 20-second voice-message reminder in the telephone queue was played, addressing key risk factors along with a message from a child who lost his mother to cervical cancer. From the anonymised GP database, weekly new smear test bookings were monitored from 4 weeks prior until 2 weeks after the intervention was implemented. To qualitatively assess factors which deter patients away from screening, female patients were randomly sampled to fill in an anonymous questionnaire. The use of a low-cost 20 second voice message in the telephone queue across UK GP practices could be an effective method to increase cervical smear test coverage towards the national target of 80%. 35 questionnaire responses were received, main themes reported for not attending screening include embarrassment(37%), busy schedule(32%) and cultural differences(24%). In the week following the intervention, cervical smear tests increased more than 2-fold, from an average of 12 to 26 smears per week. This could be partly due to the convenient timing of voice recording, reminding them to book both appointments simultaneously and the child’s emotive message.
