The article is an excerpt from the Master's research, which aimed to identify and analyze the theoretical and methodological assumptions for guiding the proposals for continuing education of teachers, offered by the Municipal Department of Education, in two Elementary Schools I, in a city in the interior of São Paulo and their reflexes in the teaching action. The theoretical contribution was of a historical-cultural nature (Bakhtinian); it is a qualitative investigation, configured as a case study, with documentary analysis and semi-structured interview, involving three teachers, two pedagogical advisors and a director, covering a total of six direct participants. The analysis of the data collected from the documents and the interviews was done through the theoretical process of triangulation, content analysis and semiotic analysis of historical-cultural interpretation (bakhtinian) of the speeches of the interviewed professionals. The results showed that the teacher education process does not occur in a dialogical and ambivalent way, based on cultural development, through interpersonal and intersubjective relationships, as emphasized by the historical-cultural theory. The present research enables a critical-reflexive review of the continuing education practices offered by the researched municipality, and by extension, it may serve as an object of confrontations with other contexts of teacher education in other Brazilian municipalities

This study explored Grade 3 teachers’ use of an inquiry-based approach to mediate the development of basic science concepts among learners within the socio-cultural theory. This study adopted interpretive case study research of the qualitative type, using a sample of four (4) female teachers who use the home language of learners as the language of instruction. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview guide and observational schedule which was properly validated. Analysis of data was achieved through thematic data analysis. The result of the study revealed that the foundation phase teachers are aware of the importance of the use of the inquiry-based approach in mediating the development of basic science concepts by the learners, but only one out of the four participants implemented it. Thus, it was recommended that there should be a provision of further professional development spaces that promote a community of practice in using an Inquiry-Based Approach in the Foundation Phase. Keywords: Basic science concepts, Grade 3 teachers, Foundation Phase, Inquiry-Based approach

The current worldwide ICT and digital transformation requires new leadership to demonstrate knowledge and skills suitable for the digital age. As ICT development advances, school leaders should maximize ICT usage in classrooms. This chapter highlights exemplary leadership practices by a Malaysian primary school leader. The objectives of the research are (1) to document leadership styles in managing teachers to successfully integrate ICT in their classrooms and (2) to investigate leadership strategies for successful ICT integration. A case study approach involving a semi-structured interview, observations, and documentary analysis were used. The data revealed that the leader pursued an innovative approach to instill technological transformation. Teachers acquired appropriate ICT skills essential to perform their tasks. The study reveals that successful ICT integration was achieved through the application of Maintain ➧Improve ➧ Change (MIC) as part of transformational model practices based on the vision of the Ministry of Education and other strategies discussed in the chapter.

This paper presents a brief case study of the distance delivered Master of Public Administration program at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, Alaska. The US Department of Education notes that from 1995 to 1998 distance education programs in the US have increased by 72% (complete study available at http://nces.ed.gov/). Many would say one of the greatest challenges to higher education in today's world is the challenge of distance education, particularly distance education mediated by technology. For years, Universities have undertaken distance education through correspondence courses. Despite the existence of such distance education courses, the fact that they were few in number, that they normally involved only preparatory or elective courses, that they rarely involved whole programs, and that they were normally administered by Departments of Continuing Education made them somehow less controversial.

This article presents the partial results of a broader research on the conceptions and evaluative actions of six physical education teachers in high school in the city of Medellín (Colombia). Specifically, this paper presents the findings on one of its objectives: to analyze the decisions that teachers make before starting a didactic unit (planning on assessment). The research assumed a qualitative design, with a methodological approach of multiple case study. The strategies used for this purpose were the semi-structured interview and documentary analysis. The main findings of the study show that planning on assessment is not a specific activity that requires an interest on the part of the teachers, because their previous experiences give them the security to approach future units without adaptations according to the group or the subject to work on.

The aim of this study was to investigate the skills and deficiencies of senior university students enrolled in a mathematics education program with the concepts of symmetry and rotation of geometric figures. The study was conducted with 32 prospective teachers in the Department of Education at a public university located in Western Turkey. This descriptive study was designed with a case study. A structured interview technique was used for data collection. A measurement tool consisting of 12 drawing problems testing symmetry (5 problems) and rotation (7 problems) ability was used in the study. Descriptive statistical methods were used for data analysis. The drawings were analyzed individually, and the students' mistakes and deficiencies were categorized. According to the results of the study, prospective elementary mathematics teachers did not have difficulty in drawing the symmetry of an object or in determining the symmetry axis. However, while they could rotate the figure when a rotation axis was provided, they failed to rotate it in the absence of an axis. In addition, prospective elementary mathematics teachers generally failed to find the center of the given rotated figures. The results of the present study were consistent with results in the literature.

But not always the studies on governance focuses on the features of the organizations can influence the generated benefits. Thus, this study aims to analyze how the governance of the network may have different contributions to management in partner organizations. Methodologically, there was a single case study of a network of companies that had as main objective to structure the chain of production and use of biodiesel in the state of Sergipe (Biodiesel Sergipe Network). Data collection was performed using a semi-structured interview guide held with representatives of public and private organizations. The results showed that, in large organizations, such as a bank and a government institution, the development of new products, research groups and methodologies management was evident. However, the benefits generated by governance were more evident in a family farming cooperative that got the reorganization of the production process, administrative structure, generating new business and implementation of public policies for poverty eradication and development of the small farmer. As a theoretical contribution, it enabled the study show that, in addition to the benefits, features assigned to each institution offered distinct benefits to Network participants. In this case, future studies on governance networks should consider the profile of the participating institutions in view of the distinct benefits provided.

Keywords: Benefits.
