This article presents the partial results of a broader research on the conceptions and evaluative actions of six physical education teachers in high school in the city of Medellín (Colombia). Specifically, this paper presents the findings on one of its objectives: to analyze the decisions that teachers make before starting a didactic unit (planning on assessment). The research assumed a qualitative design, with a methodological approach of multiple case study. The strategies used for this purpose were the semi-structured interview and documentary analysis. The main findings of the study show that planning on assessment is not a specific activity that requires an interest on the part of the teachers, because their previous experiences give them the security to approach future units without adaptations according to the group or the subject to work on.

Using the Social Ecological Constraints model, a qualitative multiple case study design was used to explore experienced and committed middle school physical education teachers’ perspectives on overweight and obese students (OWS), and how and why they acted to include OWS in physical education and physical activity opportunities in their school environments. Three themes emerged. 1) OWS are “the same, but different.” Teachers attempted to treat all students the same, but perceived variations among OWS’ participation in PE and related individual constraints. 2) Teachers’ concerns lead to individual goals and specific actions. Teachers identified specific goals and approaches to help individual OWS who needed extra attention. 3) OWS are a responsibility and challenge. Many of these teachers felt a responsibility to devote extra time and effort to help struggling OWS to succeed. These teachers avoided obesity bias, and exhibited beliefs and actions similar to a caring perspective.

This study aims at determining the science concepts and subjects used in the "religion courses" taught in secondary schools and the contribution of science to religion courses, which is not a widely studied topic in the relevant literature. Like qualitative research, this study is a multiple case study. The data were collected using a semi-structured interview with five Muslim religion teachers working in an eastern city of Turkey. The interview data were analyzed using the basic descriptive and content analysis methods. The findings showed that religion teachers benefit from the concepts and subjects of science in their courses; using life sciences in their religion courses had a positive impact in teaching religious subjects better to the students; the use of the concepts of life sciences in religion courses enabled students to perceive the subject better; students enjoyed the use of science concepts in religion courses and also students asked questions to their teachers about many subjects of life sciences. Religion teachers expressed that they did not feel competent enough in the life sciences. Some recommendations, such as organizing in-service training have been made for religion teachers to feel competent enough in life sciences.

This paper analyzes the perspective of Physical Education (PE) teachers on the effects and consequences provoked by the presence of foreign students in their regular and PE classes and in the class dynamics. Also, it aims to understand teachers’ reasons about their positive (or negative) perception of classes with foreign students. A multiple case study was conducted with twelve physical education teachers who had more than five years of experience in multicultural public schools (more than 50% of foreign students). Semi-structured interviews and non-participant observations were used to obtain data, and content analysis was employed to interpret it. As a general conclusion, this study revealed that PE teachers think that the presence of foreign students has no negative consequences in PE classes, which they usually have a "romantic" vision of. However, perceptions are more negative when courses are taught in the regular classroom, especially due to the so-called "educational factors" (absence of teachers, unequal distribution of students, little support of public administrations, etc.) and to some characteristics of the “students’ profile” (low previous academic level, lack of schooling, unawareness of the school official language, etc.).

This investigation aimed to analyze the performance of Physical Education teachers in monitoring and guiding the use of Outdoor Gyms equipment under the administration of the Council of Campo Grande / MS. The research is cross-sectional, quali-quantitative, descriptive-exploratory and field. The object of analysis were users of Outdoor Gyms, municipal managers and documents from sectors responsible for municipal sports and health policy. The structured interview and documentary analysis were used as research techniques. The results indicate that the majority of users do not have guidance and monitoring from Physical Education teachers; that the service locations are established based on the participation of visible and invisible actors, with attendance at times of less exposure to the sun. Most users do not understand the function of the gym equipment, which muscle group they exercise and are not autonomous for use, condition which may be related to the majority not having guidance and monitoring. It is concluded that the policy related to the Outdoor Gyms, regarding the orientation and monitoring of a Physical Education teacher, is inefficient.

Physical Education (PE) in elementary schools has so far been extensively geared towards achieving character goals. However, not all of these goals have been well accomplished by teachers. This research aims to examine three fundamental issues in PE practice, i.e., to define PE teachers perceptions of character education, to identify problems of PE teachers in promoting character education, and to determine whether PE teachers consider character education is plausible to be implemented through PE activities. This study used a case study and a content analysis in the qualitative research method. The data were obtained from 53 PE teachers who worked in 53 elementary schools from 26 sub-districts in Sumedang Regency through an accessible case sampling method. This study employed individual interviews (10-15 minutes) in a semi-structured interview technique. Content analysis was used to analyze the interview scripts. This study revealed that character education is defined as the process of individual alteration from family, school, and social life. Meanwhile, the teachers stated that the curriculum is considered to be not precisely accessible for the development of character education since they were still confused about curriculum implementation. However, they believed that PE is effective to promote character education.

Physical Education is one of the subjects that arouses the most interest in children. The aim of this study is to find out the opinion that primary school students have about the Physical Education class. Drawings from a sample of 62 students from an educational centre in the city of Jaén, aged between six and eight years old, were analysed. The results show that the larger size of the drawings corresponds to the aspects that are to be emphasised. This subject is carried out regularly in the sports pavilion of the centre, making frequent use of materials such as sticks, hoops or balls. Cheerful colours are used, reflecting their enthusiasm for the subject. The smiling facial expression represents the schoolchildren’s interest in the subject. The most popular games or sports are basketball and pichi, both of them collective.
