Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck is a very common cultivar belonging to the Rutaceae family. It is largely diffused in several areas of the world characterized by mild to warm climate conditions. Its abundant worldwide production (up to 107 Tons. per year) and consumption both as the edible part of the fruit and as several types of derivative products imply the production of a huge amount of waste, such as the fruit pomace. Several ways of recycling this material have been developed in recent years: employment as fertilizer, fodder ingredient, and even cloth material. However, the chemical added value of Citrus sinensis peel has been underestimated despite the diversified and significant content of useful chemicals, such as polyphenols, polymethoxylated phenols, glycosylated flavonoids, volatile and non-volatile terpenoids, pectins, enzymes, etc. This work aims to highlight the outstanding chemical potential of Citrus sinensis peel.

Exports of Russian cereals have been growing for five years. In 2017, exports of Russian cereals came to the second rate in the world, and wheat exports came to the first rate. In near future, Russia intends to increase its export potential and maintain its leadership in the global cereals market. The authors have put forward the hypothesis that increasing exports of Russian cereals are not just the result of a favorable combination of weather, economic and political conditions, but it is an expected result of the development of Russian cereal farming. The purpose of the study is to examine the factors that could increase the volume of exports of Russian cereals, and elaborate perspective ways to develop the export potential to strengthen the Russian position in the world cereals market. Using the methods of theoretical analysis, the authors have revealed the peculiarities of Russian and world market development. Economic and statistical methods of analysis have allowed to determine the trends and the conditioning factors in the cereals market development. The authors have come to the conclusion that increasing exports of cereals are caused by growth in cereals production and changes in the expense side in the Russian cereals balance, as well as an active foreign economic activity to expand cereals supplies, and state exports support. Russia is able to increase the volume of food exports, augmenting not only exports of cereals, but also derivative products, which are characterized by high added value, that is the most promising way to develop the export potential.

Abstract Utilization of cocoa bean to be a derivative products in industrial is wide enough, that it is necessary to determine the priority of the processed products development. This study aimed to determine the prospective processed cocoa products with a system approach using Bayes method and assessed the potential of added value by using Hayami method. Based on several assessment criteria indicated that chocolate bar is the priority product that needs to be developed and followed by several other processed products. This development was able to produce the added value of Rp 135.000 per kg of cocoa beans. Result indicated that by processing the cocoa beans into chocolate bar could provide a considerable income for the businessman.

Following the growth of the global population and the subsequent rapid increase in urbanization and industrialization, the fisheries and aquaculture production has seen a massive increase driven mainly by the development of fishing technologies. Accordingly, a remarkable increase in the amount of fish waste has been produced around the world; it has been estimated that about two-thirds of the total amount of fish is discarded as waste, creating huge economic and environmental concerns. For this reason, the disposal and recycling of these wastes has become a key issue to be resolved. With the growing attention of the circular economy, the exploitation of underused or discarded marine material can represent a sustainable strategy for the realization of a circular bioeconomy, with the production of materials with high added value. In this study, we underline the enormous role that fish waste can have in the socio-economic sector. This review presents the different compounds with high commercial value obtained by fish byproducts, including collagen, enzymes, and bioactive peptides, and lists their possible applications in different fields.

Abstract. Deep learning techniques (in particular convolutional neural networks, CNNs) have recently emerged as a promising approach for statistical downscaling due to their ability to learn spatial features from huge spatiotemporal datasets. However, existing studies are based on complex models, applied to particular case studies and using simple validation frameworks, which makes a proper assessment of the (possible) added value offered by these techniques difficult. As a result, these models are usually seen as black boxes, generating distrust among the climate community, particularly in climate change applications. In this paper we undertake a comprehensive assessment of deep learning techniques for continental-scale statistical downscaling, building on the VALUE validation framework. In particular, different CNN models of increasing complexity are applied to downscale temperature and precipitation over Europe, comparing them with a few standard benchmark methods from VALUE (linear and generalized linear models) which have been traditionally used for this purpose. Besides analyzing the adequacy of different components and topologies, we also focus on their extrapolation capability, a critical point for their potential application in climate change studies. To do this, we use a warm test period as a surrogate for possible future climate conditions. Our results show that, while the added value of CNNs is mostly limited to the reproduction of extremes for temperature, these techniques do outperform the classic ones in the case of precipitation for most aspects considered. This overall good performance, together with the fact that they can be suitably applied to large regions (e.g., continents) without worrying about the spatial features being considered as predictors, can foster the use of statistical approaches in international initiatives such as Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX).

The paper deals with the implementation of the WCM (World Class Manufacturing) model. By implementing the WCM, it is possible to reduce costs in manufacturing operations by removing elements that does not bring added value, or generate losses, waste or even lead to accidents and errors. WCM as a management model includes its own methods and tools that enable the company to achieve profit and a competitive advantage based on the principle of "producing the highest quality products at low prices". The WCM model is based on four concepts to achieve zero waste, zero accidents, zero failures and zero stocks. A prerequisite for the development of the WCM model is the improvement of the company's organizational system in order to achieve a global level of competitiveness.

Turkey is the largest hazelnut producer and exporter in the world with approximately 75% worldwide production and 70-75% of world exports, yet according to FAO; annual yield gain rate is significantly lower than Italy and USA. While Turkey produces 0.94 ton/hectare hazelnut, average yield rates for USA, Italy and Spain are 2.6 ton/hectare, 1.68 ton/hectare and 1 ton/hectare, respectively. Hazelnut production in Turkey is primarily concentrated along Black Sea coast centered Giresun and Trabzon provinces. The purpose of this study is to propose a methodology to further improve the efficiency in hazelnut production by determining the most significant geographical criteria and using them for spatial queries and analysis in ArcGIS environment to detect most fertile hazelnut plantation areas. For the study, the Surmene district of Trabzon is selected for pilot region. A thematic map of hazelnut plantation areas created from the classification of WorldView-2 image of the district was used as the base map. Furthermore, a database is created with layers and cost maps using multicriteria decision methods. Detected most suitable areas for hazelnut production area are compared with the present situation. Proposed methodology and the database can be used by officials for better management of hazelnut production in Turkey, therefore in the world.

Wide application of nanoparticles motivates the need for synthesising them. Here, a nontoxic, eco-friendly, and cost-effective method has been established for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using extracts of lemon peel (Citrus limon), green orange peel (Citrus sinensis), and orange peel (Citrus tangerina). The synthesised nanoparticles have been characterised using UV-visible absorptionspectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The UV-visible absorption spectrum of these synthesised silver nanoparticles shows an absorption peak at around 440 nm. TEM images show different shaped particles with various sizes. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles was appraised by a well-diffusion method and it was observed that the green synthesised silver nanoparticles have an effective antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The outcome of this study could be beneficial for nanotechnology-based biomedical applications.

In the last decade unprecedented technological changes have taken place, resulting in the emergence of a fundamentally new economic model. Based on the widespread spread of smartphones, the world has become more “connected”. The digitalization of demand and supply contributed to the creation of entirely new digital markets managed by platform enterprises based on an open business model, that enabled external consumers and producers to connect and interact with each other. A more interconnected world generates vast amounts of data, allowing platform companies to invest in machine learning and artificial intelligence and ultimately improve their efficiency. Finally, a steady digitalization of business processes, markets and global value chains is observed. In these circumstances, approaches to value addition are fundamentally changing in the context of new dimensions of the digital economy, the analysis of which was the purpose of our study. It has been identified, that in the absence of a standardized international methodology for measuring the digital economy, the latter is so far possible on disparate development-left and national statistics. Initiatives taken at the international level to overcome national differential approaches are still insufficient, as there is a lack of statistics and variables related to digital data. It has been revealed, that the lack of quality statistics on key indicators of the digital economy makes it difficult to assess the value added in the world economy scale and international comparisons. Much of the challenges of measuring value added in the digital economy, as shown in the article, are related to the principle of “scale without mass,” the intangible nature of capital, the intense growth of large-scale cross-border data flows, and the emergence of new sources of value creation.

Originating from the palm Euterpe oleracea, the açaí is an endemic fruit of the Amazon rainforest, the consumption of which has grown strongly in Brazil since the 1990s and is emerging in other regions of the world. Consumed mainly in the form of pulp and erected as a "superfruit" by marketing players for its antioxidant and nutritional potential, the açaí berry goes through a dynamic process encompassing both its space production and international distribution circuit as well as its composition derivative products. In this conjuncture, our main objective is to understand the metamorphosis of the acai, that is to say when it is perceived much more as an economic resource than as a natural resource. To achieve this objective, our research uses as a main basis the Globalization Model of Amazonian Plants, proposed and developed by Beaufort (2017).
