The article summarizes the results of the of the titanium alloy surface morphology and chemical composition study after grinding with a wheel of cubic boron nitride on a ceramic bond. The titanium alloy was treated using the method of cut-in grinding in the finishing mode using a synthetic water-soluble lubricant-cooling liquid that does not contain mineral oil. The research was carried out using the FEI Versa 3D LoVac electron microscope. Digital photos of the titanium alloy surface at different magnifications are given. Individual objects’ morphology allows us to identify them as wear products of abrasive tools. The chemical composition of the selected objects was studied by local x-ray spectral analysis. CBN crystals are partially or completely pressed into the treated surface and covered with a layer of the treated material. On the surface of CBN crystals, there are chemical elements that are part of the abrasive tool bond.

The high adhesive activity of titanium alloys in interaction with abrasive materials is the main cause of poor grinding treatment. The most common abrasive material for grinding titanium alloys is silicon carbide. Silicon carbide wheels operate primarily in self-sharpening mode. Wear of the abrasive tool in the self-sharpening mode occurs as a result of brittle destruction of the fret. The purpose of the study was to determine experimentally the crystalline wear products of an abrasive tool, made of silicon carbide, on the treated surface during grinding of a titanium alloy. Samples of VT9 titanium alloy were processed by flat mortise grinding by a wheel of silicon carbide with the use of VOLTES coolant and the characteristic of the abrasive tool - 64CF80L7V. The treated surface was examined on the electron microscope Versa 3D Dual Beam. The condition of the treated surface testifies to the intensive adhesive interaction of the titanium alloy with the abrasive tool. The thickness of the metal deposits reaches 3 microns. As a result of morphological analysis, objects are identified on the treated surface, the appearance of which allows us to attribute them to crystals. The chemical composition of the selected objects was determined by a microprobe analysis in a microscope camera. On the basis of the conducted researches, a presence on the grinded surface of silicon carbide crystals of various sizes and a ceramic ligament is established.

Currently, to increase the efficiency of industrial production, high-performance and expensive technological equipment is increasingly used, in which the weakest link, from the point of view of efficiency and reliability, is the components and parts of heavily loaded tribo – couplings operating both at significantly different temperatures (conditionally under lighter conditions, the temperature difference can be 100-120 degrees) and climatic conditions (high humidity, the presence of abrasives and other chemical elements in the atmosphere). As the results of the analysis of the frequency of failures of friction units and, accordingly, the cost of their restoration reach 9-20 percent of the cost of all equipment, without taking into account significant losses of income (profit) of the enterprise from downtime. The solution of this problem is based on the study of the wear rate of friction units by the wear products accumulated in working oils, cooling lubricants, and greases. A digital equipment monitoring system (DSMT) has been developed and implemented, which includes dynamic recording of the number of wear products and oil temperature by original modern recording devices, followed by the technology of their processing and use. The system also includes methods for finding the necessary information in large data sets useful and necessary in theoretical and practical terms with a similar technique controlled by a digital monitoring system. The advantages of SMT are the ability to predict the reliability of the equipment; reduce production risks and significantly reduce inefficient costs.

Рассматриваются подходы по определению пороговых значений концентрации продуктов износа в отработанном цилиндровом масле, характеризующие переход объекта диагностирования судового крейцкопфного дизеля из одного технического состояния в другое. Показано, что существующие методики не учитывают индивидуальные особенности и техническое состояние деталей цилиндропоршневой группы. Предложено для решения задачи их трибодиагностики использовать разработанную имитационную модель, позволяющую провести моделирование процесса изнашивания цилиндровой втулки и поршневых колец судового дизеля и на основании полученных расчетов определить концентрацию продуктов износа поступивших в отработанное цилиндровое масло при различной скорости изнашивания трущихся деталей. Данные о фактической концентрации продуктов износа в отработанном цилиндровом масле в дальнейшем соотносятся с результатами моделирования, что позволяет оценить техническое состояние деталей цилиндропоршневой группы двигателя. Представлены результаты моделирования по определению пороговых значений концентрации продуктов износа в отработанном цилиндровом масле, характеризующее переход судового дизеля из исправного в несправное техническое состояние. Даны практические рекомендации по выбору пороговых значений содержания продуктов износа в отработанном цилиндровом масле для различных типов судовых крейцкопфных дизелей и условий их эксплуатации.The article examines approaches to determine the threshold values of the concentration of wear debris in used cylinder oil that characterize the transition of a ship crosshead diesel engine unit under test from one technical condition to another. It is shown that the existing methods do not take into account the individual characteristics and technical condition of the parts of the cylinder-piston group. To solve the problem of tribodiagnostics, it is proposed to use the developed simulation model, which allows modeling the wear process of the cylinder bushing and piston rings of a marine diesel engine and, based on the obtained results, determining the concentration of wear products issued in the used cylinder oil at different wear rates of the moving parts. The data on the actual concentration of wear products in the used cylinder oil are subsequently correlated with the simulation model results, which makes it possible to evaluate the technical condition of the parts of the engine cylinder-piston group. The article presents the results of modeling of threshold values determination of the concentration of wear products in used cylinder oil, that measure the transition of a marine diesel engine from a working condition to a malfunctioning technical condition. Practical recommendations are given on choosing threshold values for the concentration of wear products in used cylinder oil for various types of marine crosshead diesel engines and their operating conditions.

Macrophages are cells involved in the primary response to debris derived from wear of implanted CoCr alloys. The biocompatibility of wear particles from a high carbon CoCr alloy produced under polarization in physiological hyaluronic acid (HA) solution was evaluated in J774A.1 mouse macrophages cultures. Polarization was applied to mimic the electrical interactions observed in living tissues. Wear tests were performed in a pin-on-disk tribometer integrating an electrochemical cell in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) and in PBS supplemented with 0.3% HA, physiological synovial fluid concentration, used as lubricant solution. Wear particles produced in 0.3% HA solution showed a higher biocompatibility in J774A.1 macrophages in comparison to those elicited by PBS. A considerable improvement in macrophages biocompatibility in the presence of 0.3 % of HA was further observed by the application of polarization at potentials having current densities typical of injured tissues suggesting that polarization produces an effect on the surface of the metallic material that leads to the production of wear particles that are macrophages biocompatible and less cytotoxic. The results showed the convenience to consider electric interactions together with other particles parameters, as are size and composition, to get a better understanding of the biological effects of the wear products.

The corrosive titanium products in peri-implant tissues are a potential risk factor for peri-implantitis. There is very limited information available on the effect of the corrosion and wear products on the dental implant corrosion. Therefore, we determined the influence of Ti-ions and Ti-particles on Ti corrosion. Eighteen commercially pure-Ti-grade-2 discs were polished to mirror-shine. Samples were divided into six groups (n = 3) as a function of electrolytes; (A) Artificial saliva (AS), (B) AS with Ti-ions (the electrolyte from group A, after corrosion), (C) AS with Ti-particles 10 ppm (D) AS with Ti-particles 20 ppm, (E) AS with Ti-ions 10 ppm, and (F) AS with Ti-ions 20 ppm. Using Tafel’s method, corrosion potential (Ecorr) and current density (Icorr) were estimated from potentiodynamic curves. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) data were used to construct Nyquist and Bode plots, and an equivalent electrical circuit was used to assess the corrosion kinetics. The corroded surfaces were examined through a 3D-white-light microscope and scanning electronic microscopy. The data demonstrated that the concentration of Ti-ions and corrosion rate (Icorr) are strongly correlated (r = 0.997, p = 0.046). This study indicated that high Ti-ion concentration potentially aggravates corrosion. Under such a severe corrosion environment, there is a potential risk of increased implant associated adverse tissue reactions.
