For the individual and for society, human life and health are great values, which are often particularly difficult or impossible to measure, though they are irreplaceable values. Even in the oldest historical stages of the development and life of society, many important doctors and scientists were interested in the social aspects of health care, e.g. Hippocrates, Aristotle, Avicenna. Paracelsus († 1541, Swiss philosopher and physician) and Georgius Agricola († 1555, German chemist and mineralogist). Based on their own experience gained from daily contact with workers and their working environment, they examined disorders caused by the harmful factors of the working environment and working processes. The ever-changing world of work increasingly brings new risks into working processes, which are directly related to the work performed by employees. As part of the EU-OSHA (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work) strategy to increase health and safety at work, the European Risk Observatory called on EU Member States to improve the detection of these risks in the working environment. Considering the above, the authors of this article have set themselves the goal of mapping the current situation in the area of the creation, protection and quality management of the working environment. They describe general requirements for protecting occupational health and safety, mainly in Slovakia. They are convinced that current developments present the need to know as much as possible about the living and working environments, to have a thorough knowledge of working conditions and all the factors that affect the health of employees, to know and choose assessment procedures to reduce the negative effects of these factors to a minimum. It is important that we keep in mind that healthy working conditions are among the most valuable assets of individuals, communities and nations.

In the aerospace manufacturing, lots of processes cannot be automated and are performed manually by skilled workers. Because there exist some human error mistakes in such manual working processes, root cause investigations of these mistakes are indispensable and measures are implemented in working processes for preventing repetition of the same mistakes. Although skilled workers have strong confidence that they can complete their work with no mistake, there exist some cases that they cannot recognize their mistakes in practice. In such cases, root cause investigations cannot be performed and no measure is implemented. Such situation may become a serious risk in aerospace manufacturing because a tiny mistake can cause the serious mission failure of aviation system. To reduce such situation, the ergonomic risk reduction method is proposed. Skilled workers try to avoid frustration in performing their tasks and make mistakes through careless behavior. The cause of the frustration is discovered by ergonomic risk reduction method. Work risks can be removed by the progress of the working environment. Such risk reduction method contributes manufacturing organization resiliency. In this paper, we propose an ergonomic human error risk reduction method for skilled workers in Japanese domestic liquid rocket engine manufacturing.

Abstract The importance of operations and maintenance (O&M) and piping inspection in shipbuilding and offshore plant industries has significantly increased recently. Therefore, this study proposes a system that uses augmented reality (AR) to support these operations. AR in O&M and inspection systems can increase work comprehension and efficiency by utilizing 3D graphics, instead of drawings, to describe specific work functions. To realize this improvement, the augmented model should correspond to the reality; if accurate registration is not achieved, it can disrupt the work functions. Therefore, marker-based AR is used to generate specific recognition objects and correct the location of the augmented model. However, owing to certain characteristics of the shipbuilding and offshore plant industries, the markers are likely to be damaged, and thus the cameras fail to clearly detect them. In this study, a 3D camera was used to generate a point cloud based on 3D image information. Accordingly, the area around the model to be detected was designated as the region of interest (ROI). Furthermore, it is difficult to support a high-end device environment because it is tested as a portable device that can be used in a working environment; therefore, superfluous data were removed by detecting the 3D edges in the ROI, thereby minimizing data operation. The scalability of this work was enhanced using the computer-aided design (CAD) file information extracted from the CAD tool (used in the shipbuilding industry) and converting it into a point cloud. The proposed system is expected to eliminate the issues related to understanding the O&M work by addressing registration errors that might occur in constrained environments and to improve the torsional phenomenon of the augmented models.

Background: Interarm systolic blood pressure difference more than 10 mm of Hg is predictor of cardiovascular and metabolic risk. Despite of sufficient physical activity there is high prevalence of obesity in police personal because of stressful working environment. No studies have addressed the significance of interarm pressure difference among them. Therefore, the present study conducted to access the relation of interarm blood pressure difference with obesity in police personnel. Aims and Objective: To estimate the interarm pressure difference in police personal to see its association with their obesity. Material and Method: This cross-sectional observational study done on 245 police workers in PAC, Sitapur, India. Subjects having more than ten years of working experience were included in study. Anthropometric measurements of subject recorded by following standard protocol. Measurement of systolic pressure in both arm recorded simultaneously by mercury sphygmomanometer. Available data analyze and expressed in percentage, mean with SD and chi square test to see the significance of association. Results: According to anthropometric results of subjects 77.14 prcent subjects were having generalised obesity and 82.04 percent of subjects having abdominal obesity. 34.29 percent of subjects showed abnormally high (?10 mmHg) inter-arm systolic blood pressure difference. Both type of obesity showed positive association with blood sugar level but no association with interarm pressure difference. Conclusion: Interarm blood pressure difference is greater in individual having obesity or prolong duration of service. Such subjects are more susceptible to develop coronary artery disease or peripheral arterial disease in future.
