AbstractHobbes's manuscript refutation of Thomas White bears no title. Some modern scholars have proposed, on the basis of references to it by Mersenne, that the work was entitled 'De motu, loco et tempore', and the abbreviated version of this, 'De motu', has become current in modern scholarship. This research note analyses Mersenne's references, and concludes that this apparent title was a descriptive phrase introduced by Mersenne himself. The full description included the term 'philosophia' (thus: Hobbes's 'philosophy concerning motion, place and time'); this suggests a double focus, not only on the manuscript text, but also on Hobbes's 'body' of natural philosophy more generally.

Abstract This paper introduces an anonymous work attributed to Basil of Caesarea entitled, De beneficentia, or “On beneficence.” The text is known from one manuscript dating to the thirteenth or fourteenth century, Berlin, Deutsche Staatsbibliothek, Phillipps 1467 (gr. 63), a collection of genuine and pseudonymous Basilian homilies. Although pseudonymous and extant (as far as we can determine) only in this sole manuscript, in some quoted fragments from the ninth and twelfth centuries, and in a sixteenth-century Latin translation, De beneficentia, shares a number of characteristics common to social homilies preached in the late fourth and early fifth centuries. This paper discusses the Berlin manuscript text in the context of the known fragments, other spurious, dubious, or pseudonymous homilies attributed to Basil, and its attributed relationship to social preaching in Christian late antiquity, and offers a new edition of the Greek text with its first English translation.

Abstract Background Despite its ubiquity in academic research, the phrase ‘ethical challenge(s)’ appears to lack an agreed definition. A lack of a definition risks introducing confusion or avoidable bias. Conceptual clarity is a key component of research, both theoretical and empirical. Using a rapid review methodology, we sought to review definitions of ‘ethical challenge(s)’ and closely related terms as used in current healthcare research literature. Methods Rapid review to identify peer-reviewed reports examining ‘ethical challenge(s)’ in any context, extracting data on definitions of ‘ethical challenge(s)’ in use, and synonymous use of closely related terms in the general manuscript text. Data were analysed using content analysis. Four databases (MEDLINE, Philosopher’s Index, EMBASE, CINAHL) were searched from April 2016 to April 2021. Results 393 records were screened, with 72 studies eligible and included: 53 empirical studies, 17 structured reviews and 2 review protocols. 12/72 (17%) contained an explicit definition of ‘ethical challenge(s), two of which were shared, resulting in 11 unique definitions. Within these 11 definitions, four approaches were identified: definition through concepts; reference to moral conflict, moral uncertainty or difficult choices; definition by participants; and challenges linked to emotional or moral distress. Each definition contained one or more of these approaches, but none contained all four. 68/72 (94%) included studies used terms closely related to synonymously refer to ‘ethical challenge(s)’ within their manuscript text, with 32 different terms identified and between one and eight different terms mentioned per study. Conclusions Only 12/72 studies contained an explicit definition of ‘ethical challenge(s)’, with significant variety in scope and complexity. This variation risks confusion and biasing data analysis and results, reducing confidence in research findings. Further work on establishing acceptable definitional content is needed to inform future bioethics research.

AbstractCarita Parahyangan is a historical script, written about 1580 BC.  The research based on the study of history would have done by another researcher which is raising the name of the king, kingdom, and power.  Differently, this study of the manuscript - which will be done – is not on the existence of the kingdom, but rather focused on the teaching of leadership.  What constitutes success and collapse of an empire does? Are there any teachings of the grip in a building community? This research focused on teaching leadership in the Carita Parahiyangan manuscript uses study of the text which is considering the text is narrative description. In addition, the intertextual method is also used to search a text of the other contemporary manuscript text or previously exist.  In this case the previous manuscripts are Siksakandang Ngkaresian and Amanat (from) Galunggung.  The result of this study is the Kingdom is related to the holding of the teaching.  Pros and cons of a king (leader) are very close with the obedience, compliance or violation of the tenets.  The tenets which is appeared in the era of Sundanese kingdom is like what it has been founded in the tenets of Siksakandang Ngkaresian and Amanat dari Galunggung manuscript.

ABSTRACTEvidence from a 5-year study including 150 fresh human cadaver dissections, microsurgery, fluorescent microinjections, immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging suggests a novel CSF circulatory system exists in human nerves. We introduced this system in 2017. Here we provide further evidence to support our conclusion. No previous manuscript, text, or atlas has identified a CSF circulatory system in nerves. The human nervous system is devoid of lymphatics. CSF vessels in human nerves are distinct from blood vessels and lymphatics; may be a remnant of the primitive circulatory system in multi-cellular organisms; and likely predate the vascular circulation in animals.

The manuscripts of Minangkabau are mostly the collection of surau tarekat scattered in various places in West Sumatera. Some of the surau are always crowded visited by the congregation. Based on that phenomenon, this research is designed to discover and explore the potency of Minangkabau manuscripts that can be developed as a creative industry. Through these manuscripts are expected to provide support for the development of religious pilgrimage tour in West Sumatera which has not been managed properly and maximally until now. The method of the research applied is qualitative research method with three approaches, namely philology, codicology and creative industry. The data were collected through five stages, namely observation, recording and collection of manuscripts, literature studies, interviews and textual criticism. The technique applied in analyzing the data is based on the phenomenology approach to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the subject of the research. This study concludes that through the organization of the manuscripts containing the biographical content of tarekat scholars and their thought can turn the creative industries on, particularly the publishing sector. In addition, through illumination engineering (decoration in the script) can be developed into batik motifs. The publication of the selected manuscript text and the production of illuminated batik manuscripts can be a unique souvenir of religious pilgrimage tours in surau tarekat in West Sumatera.
