The paper deals with the problems of modeling speech recognition systems. The authors proposed to use the mechanism of linguistic anticipation in the speech recognition systems. It is known that anticipation is a kind of phenomenon of anticipatory reflection, which can provide an opportunity for the subject to “look into the future.” Anticipation is believed to be an effective method of improving reading technique in children as it enables to increase the speed of reading [1]. The similarity of the learning processes of the human brain and artificial neural-like algorithms allows to suggest that the inclusion of anticipation mechanisms into the operation of the speech recognition algorithm can improve the quality of the system. The paper presents the experiment carried out with the purpose to study the probability of increasing the quality of modern speech recognition systems provided that linguistic anticipation is embedded into such a system. The obtained results are discussed and possible directions for further work on this topic are considered.

Abstract This paper describes a new Slovak speech recognition dedicated corpus built from TEDx talks and Jump Slovakia lectures. The proposed speech database consists of 220 talks and lectures in total duration of about 58 hours. Annotated speech database was generated automatically in an unsupervised manner by using acoustic speech segmentation based on principal component analysis and automatic speech transcription using two complementary speech recognition systems. The evaluation data consisting of 50 manually annotated talks and lectures in total duration of about 12 hours, has been created for evaluation of the quality of Slovak speech recognition. By unsupervised automatic annotation of TEDx talks and Jump Slovakia lectures we have obtained 21.26% of new speech segments with approximately 9.44% word error rate, suitable for retraining or adaptation of acoustic models trained beforehand.

The success of modern transformational changes in public life depends crucially on the quality of professional training of future professionals. In this view, under conditions of reforming the Ukrainian society, a social significance of a competent specialist is extremely growing. An important area of transformational changes is the training of future teachers on a competence basis, which is conditioned by qualitative features of the competence-based paradigm in the context of modern socio-economic and spiritual development of society, changes in the nature and content of work, complexity as well as increasing requirements to performance results, on the one hand; and on the other hand – by the need to more quickly overcome the negative phenomena occurring in the system of training future professionals. The modern labour market, above all, provides for the presence of a professionally competent worker who is fluent in the profession-centred assignments and well-oriented in related fields, ready for continuous personal growth, social and professional mobility. These requirements can be fully applied to the training intended for the future teachers. At the same time, since the future specialist of any profession begins with the school, namely "the school stands for their teacher", the solution of these complicated problems depends entirely on the teacher, the quality of his / her training. As the teacher’s professional activity under conditions of the New Ukrainian school is filled with qualitatively new content, conditioned by the new demands of the society, the professional requirements to the training of the future teacher are significantly strengthened. This outlines a radical change in approaches to the process of professional training intended for future teachers. This is the general pedagogical core of this training that is important, because it deals with the equipping of students with knowledge of the basics of pedagogical theory and school practice, the development of professional thinking, the developed pedagogical skills and abilities to implement social functions alongside the subject component of the professional development aimed at mastering the logic of deploying the specifics of the content. Based on the understanding that each subject, including Biology in particular, is a means of developing the student's personality; the problem of forming future Natural Science teachers’ subject competence in Biology is becoming extremely important. This also requires the expansion of scientific knowledge about the structure of originality, in particular the subject competence in Biology under conditions of the bachelor courses, where basic higher education is obtained.

Ethics: Implications in Distance EducationAbstractBased on the views of Theodor Adorno and Zygmunt Bauman, scholars in the area of Philosophy, this paper proposes to analyze the ethical issues related to Distance Education courses, especially with regard to teacher preparation courses. Initially, it presents considerations about the concepts of ethics, semi-formation, and technology-mediated education, necessary for discussion on the subject. Such an approach is justified by the considerable growth of Distance Education in recent years and by the frequent discussion about the quality of these courses, considering the increasing number of teachers licensed through this modality of education who are responsible for the future of Brazilian education. The objective of this study is, initially, to understand how ethical issues can influence the educational process for teacher preparation through distance education. Keywords: Ethics, EaD, Semiformation theory, Theodor Adorno, Zygmunt Bauman.

Phonetic dictionaries are regarded as pivotal components of speech recognition systems. The function of speech recognition research is to generate a machine which will accurately identify and distinguish the normal human speech from any other speaker. Literature affirmed that Arabic phonetics is one of the major problems in Arabic speech recognition. Therefore, this paper reviews previous studies tackling the challenges faced by initiating an Arabic phonetic dictionary with respect to Arabic speech recognition. It has been found that the system of speech recognition investigated areas of differences concerning Arabic phonetics. In addition, an Arabic phonetic dictionary should be initiated where the Arabic vowels’ phonemes should be considered as a component of the consonants’ phonemes. Thus, the incorporation of developed machine translation systems may enhance the quality of the system. The current paper concludes with the existing challenges faced by Arabic phonetic dictionary.

Is artificial intelligence (AI) just something that is done in laboratories disconnected from the development of the pragmatic computing, which constitutes current information technology or does it contribute to progress in computing and information technology? It has even been suggested that advances in AI are merely a re-branding exercise for promises that are rarely kept. This paper is a personal view of the forces that have driven the development of AI in the past and what might be a serious paradigm shift in the future. The latter points to what appears to be the most abstruse corner of the subject: the modelling of the human brain and the possibility of designing systems with the brain's ability to create conscious thought. There have been accusations that AI is always ahead on promise and behind on delivery. This is an inaccurate view. In broad terms, the argument presented here suggests that as AI developed, progress was achieved by overcoming unforeseen difficulties in the pursuit of very ambitious targets, not just a re-branding of promises. This process not only advanced AI but also fed into the mainstream of computing that underpins the information technology of the present time. While the outcome of the paradigm shift towards conscious machines, which is examined at the end of this paper is still unclear, it is possible to speculate how information technology might be affected in the future.
