Current a relevant trend in development of modern education is the model of open, informal education. Educational geocaching is one of the forms of organization of work with the students of informal education. Special attention is given to achievement of goals of environmental education using the activity approach. The authors believe that the students’ knowledge of environmental situation should be obtained through their involvement and nonstandard forms of interaction. As an example, the article explores the experience of elaboration and implementation of the city project “Environmental Geocaching” for the students of Tobolsk public schools. The author reviews the key stages of the game: purpose, form, brief content of training the planners and participants, examples of tasks on the example of ecological station, etc. It is believed that in the course of such events, the students learn to value the environment and its preservationt; direct participation of students at all stages of the game is a strong motivator for cognitive activity, which prompts the solutions for developmental and pedagogical tasks of environmental education. The provided methodical recommendations can be applied by the teachers in elaboration of materials for such events.

The aim of this study was to contribute to the teaching of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) in High Schools. The study was done from the research knowledge about STDs of 61 students from two schools of Rio Claro – SP, Brazil: a state and a private school, through a questionnaire (Pre-test) and an interview with two Biology professors, each one from each school. The results indicated that, in general, the students in the private school had more knowledge about the subject. The public school students showed more problems with knowledge about the symptoms of STDs. In those two schools the knowledge on the subject proved to be generic and superficial. According to the Biology teachers, both of them teach about the content and the teaching material contains themes of sexuality and STDs. From these results, an intervention was developed with students, using methods such as group dynamics and lecture dialogued lessons. After the intervention, there was an increase in the percentage of correct answers for the students of both schools (Post-test) which shows that it was effective. We conclude that this work has achieved its goal to enlighten students on the topic, but schools fail to have a better dialogue with their students for the planning of such content, since although its teaching is expected, learning is not happening as expected.

In current time, it is evident the necessity of animal welfare education policies. Animal welfare is defined as the state of an individual attempting to adjust to the environment and education material can encourage dialogue inside schools. We aimed to verify the presence or absence of animal welfare related content in school books and survey the perceptions of the students about the subject, associating with the socioeconomic profile of the school district and with the overall school performance in the SARESP test. This study was performed between July and November, with seven of the twenty-two public schools in the city of Araçatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. Seven books were collected for analysis from each school, totalizing 49 books, and 430 students answered a survey with 10 questions. The statistical analysis did not show relevant difference between biological gender, age, grade and socioeconomic profile and animal welfare knowledge perception. This study concluded that in most of the analyzed books, animal welfare topics are absent, and that there is no difference between the schools’ socioeconomic profile and animal welfare knowledge perception of the students.

This study was aimed at identifying new effective forms that could facilitate the achievement of a practice-oriented result, i.e. students’ ability to communicate in any speech situation, as well as their readiness for various kinds of oral and written examination tests, including the public defence of projects in the 10th grade and writing December essays in the 11th grade. The article considers rhetorical competitions as a means of developing communicative and linguistic competencies among 10th–11th grade students of a polycultural school. The article provides recommendations on organizing such competitions, criteria for evaluating presentations, examples of oral presentations. A textual analysis of the folklore material of Dagestanian and Russian fairy tales and proverbs allowed the authors to conclude that an inexhaustible set of universal themes that have become the subject of reflection in different nations, can teach students to respect other cultures and extend their knowledge of the world and other people. The experience of a rhetorical competition in high school on the basis of fairy tales and proverbs of different nations is expected to help students form such core competencies as critical thinking, creativity, communication and cooperation (ability to work in a team).

Physical Education is one of the subjects that arouses the most interest in children. The aim of this study is to find out the opinion that primary school students have about the Physical Education class. Drawings from a sample of 62 students from an educational centre in the city of Jaén, aged between six and eight years old, were analysed. The results show that the larger size of the drawings corresponds to the aspects that are to be emphasised. This subject is carried out regularly in the sports pavilion of the centre, making frequent use of materials such as sticks, hoops or balls. Cheerful colours are used, reflecting their enthusiasm for the subject. The smiling facial expression represents the schoolchildren’s interest in the subject. The most popular games or sports are basketball and pichi, both of them collective.

Tuberculosis in the city of Rio de Janeiro and the BCG vaccine test in public school students (1933-1935). The article highlights the major challenges of Primary Public Education in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century, when it was the federal capital. In this period, debates involving physicians and professionals from various areas of society emerged around educational and health issues. The main sources used are: the magazine A Escola Primária and the report of the doctor Alvimar de Carvalho on the BCG vaccine test, both from the collection of the National Library. As a theoretical contribution, the possibilities opened by the new political history (RÉMOND, 2003) and the aid of microscopic observation (GINZBURG, 1990) are used to restore characters and processes through the clues left by historical subjects. The findings of the study show the importance of the use of varied sources and methods in the rescue of the history of school institutions and their intercession with political and social history. Keywords: Tuberculosis, Primary Public Education of Rio de Janeiro, Alvimar de Carvalho, Instituto Ferreira Vianna, "The Primary School" Magazine.

Kata Kunci: Kebijakan, Layanan Bimbingan Psiko-Edukatif, Tugas PerlembanganAbstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of psycho-educational guidance service policies in assisting the task of developing elementary school students in the City of Kediri and to find out supporting factors, inhibiting factors, as well as the efforts implemented in overcoming obstacles in the implementation process. This research is a qualitative descriptive study of elementary schools in the city of Kediri, with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the psycho-educational guidance service policy is carried out by the class teacher as an additional task given by the principal. This is supported by the class teacher who is considered able to condition the class he is in. Some constraints experienced include the absence of BK counselors/school counselors, the provision of services not well programmed by class teachers, the government does not place BK teachers in public schools and if it is self-constrained with funds, and there is no counseling room in schools. While the solution applied in placing senior teachers as high-class teachers (grades 4,5,6), collaborating with related institutions (KPAI, BNN, Police), and school principals also directly involved in helping class teachers in helping solve problems learners. Keywords: Policy, Psycho-Educational Guidance Services, Development Tasks

This study added to existing data on home school effectiveness by comparing the academic achievement of 66 home school students with 66 of their grade-level peers in traditional public schools. The two groups of students were matched on gender, race, and grade level and were administered the Woodcock-Johnson Psychoeducational Battery III. No significant difference in overall academic achievement was found between the groups. Both home school and public school students had average or above average scores in reading, math, written language, and broad knowledge (science, social studies, and humanities). The results further revealed a downward trend in math, reading and broad knowledge scores with increasing grade level. This trend suggests that home school and public school students experience a “developmental mismatch” between the changes that occur in adolescence and their school/home experiences, resulting in lower motivation, confidence, and academic performance.

The purpose of this article is to discuss the possibilities of public education. We argue that public schools, despite their flaws, still provide necessary spaces of civic engagement. When major social and/or political events happen, young people have few outlets to discuss, process, and understand implications. In this article, we share the experiences of Baltimore’s teachers after the death of Freddie Gray, an unarmed Black man, who lived in Baltimore and died in police custody. Following his death, the city exploded in protest, both violent and peaceful. We interviewed eight teachers and collected curriculum samples to make sense of how they used the public school classroom as a space of critical care, social justice, cultural relevance, and anti-racism to contextualize current events in their city. There are implications here for school district professional development and teacher education.
