Even considering a small-firm network as a new organizational form, few studies analyze how network management practices may influence the performance of member firms. To help overcome this gap, we conducted a survey with 242 firms associated with 49 small-firm networks in Brazil. The results show that collective planning, evaluation, communication, innovation, services offered by the network, leadership, and also the entrepreneurs’ orientation to business development have a positive influence on firms’ performance. The study contributes to the organizational literature and practice as it identifies a set of management practices that influence the performance of firms in small-firm networks.

Global changes on world markets and increasing environmental trends shape the perception of the human environment, i.e. the city. Advanced countries have developed scientifically based approaches to the management of highly specialized territories: free economic zones, free trade zones, and one-industry urban settlements (monotowns). The purpose of the current research is to justify the multi-component approach to ecological re-urbanization of single-industry towns. The search for new forms of business development and new jobs provides the basis for the development of agricultural business in monotown environment. The research studies the relationships that develop between different categories of citizens when it comes to creating recreational areas, such as mini-parks and parklets. The implementation of the strategy of ecological re-urbanization will bring the environment closer to urban life, create «smart houses», and improve the quality of life. Modern dwellings and public areas are the ideal zones for innovative technologies and small business development. The paper proposes some solutions in the field of ecological re-urbanization, green economy and ecological landscape, contributing to the development of monotowns.

The use of high inorganic fertilizers in conventional agriculture can affect soil fertility. Efforts to improve land fertility in order to increase land productivity and at the same time increase farmers' income require integrated and sustainable agricultural business development technology. Biochar applied to paddy fields is able to increase organic carbon which can provide nutrients for organisms in the soil that will provide nutrients for plants. Sengon waste in Slateng Village is abundant and has not been utilized, while most of the livelihoods of the Slateng Village residents are farmers. This activity aims to provide training to members of the Harapan Farmers Group and the local Mosque Youth to be able to process sengon waste into biochar. This activity is carried out in several stages, namely socialization and practice. The result of this activity is that participants gain knowledge about processing sengon waste and produce biochar fertilizer that is ready to be applied.

This study analyzes a participatory regeneration project implemented for sustainable improvement as the center of Yeongju, a rural area in Korea, declines. The paper explains how participants were chosen from the mostly elderly population and encouraged to participate. In this case, a small, non-agricultural business that existing residents could maintain was conceived and implemented with a focus on cooperation rather than agricultural recovery or urbanization through the construction of large apartments and new industrial complexes. To this end, the administration continues to support the community from a long-term perspective, and experts have consistently made practical implementations among them. The participating community is not fixed but flexibly reorganized based on the progress of the project. In addition, by creating public community facilities, residents can continue their activities. This study emphasizes that participatory planning does not necessarily imply a retreat to the administration and experts and provides important guidance for implementation under similar conditions in the future.
