In modern times, the buying process involves utilisation of technologies from the virtual world as well as appropriate devices and their functionalities. Strategies of this type are also appreciated by young Polish people for whom balancing between actual and virtual reality is becoming an intrinsic element of consumer awareness. Based on selected papers and research reports, including their own and ones not yet published, the authors of the paper present various ways of moving between two realities throughout the whole buying process, from the stage of creating needs to completion of the purchase. In this respect, they draw attention to such issues as the kind of devices and their functionalities used or preferred in this process, the differentiation of actions in the individual buying categories, the involvement of third parties in the buying process, responses to messages, and willingness to disclose personal information. In addition to the empirical character (presentation of the relevant data obtained during the research) of the study, the authors consider the extent of autonomy and rationality of consumer decisions. The paper presents empirical research as it was based on the authors’ consumer studies, the full descriptions of which, along with the conclusions, are included in two reports constituting elements of a project implemented by the Social Research Institute at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Pedagogical University of Krakow (IFiS UP) and the Interia Group, under the name ‘Studies on the construction of an innovative platform, compliant with the latest global trends and enabling creation of services in the “Shopping Assistant” model’, funded by the Regional Operating Programme for Mazowieckie Province for 2014–2020 (Priority axis 1: Knowledge Economy; Action 1.2 Research and innovation in enterprises, Sub‑measure 1.2.1 R&D projects for enterprises).

Identity has become one of the single most important issues for human development and adjustment in today’s turbulent times. Virtual world is changing the interface of identification and communication. Virtual reality has recently emerged as an effective tool to extend a healing space for an alternative identity. The focus of this chapter is on the challenges faced by the young generation, which is struggling to understand its “identity.” The exploration of identity in such virtual environments may be a search for a ‘unitary’ construct about the self (Erikson, 1968). In this paper, the concept of “identity” and “identity crisis” and the potential challenges identified in the real and virtual world are discussed at length. In today’s world people are pulled in different directions, thanks to the different kinds of societal demands from family, friends and society. It becomes difficult to find a uniqueness of one’s self and yet able to fulfill the norms and parameters set up by the society. Respect for diversity of self would go a long way in allowing people to be “uniquely themselves” while belonging to a community. Healthy “crisis” or exploration can afford people the opportunity to knowledgeably investigate choices in which there is positive meaning with regard to where they have come from, where they presently exist, and where they envision their future to be (International Encyclopaedia of the Social Sciences, 2008). An attempt to explore the identity management and identity statuses has also been made to understand “real” and “virtual reality.” Identity crisis and psychosocial moratorium’s linkage (Erikson, 1963) to virtual reality have also been touched upon. An understanding of organizational identity with the individual identity.

Abstract In 2021, NIH funded six high-priority research networks designed to develop resources to support and advance the study of emotional well-being (EWB) and its core components. These research networks aim to advance the field by facilitating transdisciplinary research in the social, behavioral, psychological, biological, and neurobiological sciences. The National Institute on Aging (NIA) co-sponsored the RFA, and provided funding for NEW Brain Aging, because of the central importance of EWB to health trajectories across the adult lifespan. In this presentation, Dr. Simmons, Chief of the Individual Behavioral Processes Branch within the NIA Division of Behavioral and Social Research (BSR), will discuss how EWB research fits within NIA priorities. She will then facilitate open discussion about NIA and BSR’s vision for the EWB ‘network of networks,’ the synergy of NEW Brain Aging with other members of the larger network, and the opportunities these networks will provide for investigators interested in EWB.

In modern literature, the dependence of inequality estimates on the situation in which the individual is immersed, i.e. on some constellation of place and time circumstances which determines the degree of availability of vital benefits and opportunities, has been empirically confirmed. Experiencing and comprehending this situation exfoliates into experience, determines the modality of personally expressed value-colored judgments.exfoliated into experience, which determines the modality of personally expressed value-based judgments. In general, although the perception of inequality does not coincide with "reality", it remains significant regardless of this, as it can be the immediate motive for political action — protest voting in elections, participation in actions demanding a change in the current state of income and welfare. The article substantiates the approach to the perception of inequality as a self-sufficient factuality. The data obtained in the survey on the module "Social Inequality–V" of the International Social Research Project (ISSP) show that respondents are of different categorical assessment of inequality to two objects: the country as a whole and their specific life situation. Since the range of perception always manifests itself in the range from “deep inequality” to “non-recognition of inequality,” the social space is differentiated into “worlds of inequality” that do not coincide in scale. Based on the answers to the questions about the placement on specific levels of the social ladder, the financial situation of the family and belonging to a particular class, quantitative assessments of each of these worlds have been made. At the same time, the distribution over the "worlds of inequality" obtained in the quantitative survey is nothing more than an approximate assessment of the "real" stratification of Ukrainian society. The results of the correspondence analysis between the estimates of inequality and the 34 predictors of their passing have been described and interpreted.
