Your doctoral degree started as a thought and now you are finished. Just like running a marathon race, you are now ready to finish strong and move to the next level. How do you move on? What are the next steps? You certainly have the necessary knowledge based on the literature review included in your dissertation. Additionally, you honed your research skills during the dissertation writing process, and it is now time to branch out and broaden your scope and to make connections with others in academia. Making connections and developing new research ventures with others is one of the “next steps” that new doctoral completers find rewarding. Abstract Rationale: This research has been conducted to facilitate evidence-informed policymaking and to help health-care policymakers in Saudi Arabia to decide whether or not a sustainable investment in the CPG industry is socially and economically viable. Objectives: The objective is to investigate: (i) whether the clinical practice guidelines help to improve clinical practice and save costs, and (ii) the views in Saudi Arabia about implementing clinical practice guidelines. Methods: The study employs mixed methods, including: (i) a literature review to evaluate the benefits of implementing clinical practice guidelines, and (ii) an online survey to investigate views about implementing the guidelines' benefits. Results: (i) The clinical practice guidelines do help in improving clinical practice, but the evidence about their impact on saving costs is insufficient in the literature. (ii) The survey demonstrated a high level of awareness among health system actors in Saudi Arabia of the importance of having nationally unified clinical guidelines. Recommendations: Investment in the clinical practice guidelines industry seems socially and economically viable.

Hand hygiene is an integral part of the health care system and is the single most important measure to reduce transmission of micro-organisms from one person to another or from one site to another on the same patient. Here we present a practice perspective of hand hygiene with literature review. JMS 2018: 21 (2):130-133

Purpose This clinical focus article provides an overview of clinical models currently being used for the provision of comprehensive aural rehabilitation (AR) for adults with cochlear implants (CIs) in the Unites States. Method Clinical AR models utilized by hearing health care providers from nine clinics across the United States were discussed with regard to interprofessional AR practice patterns in the adult CI population. The clinical models were presented in the context of existing knowledge and gaps in the literature. Future directions were proposed for optimizing the provision of AR for the adult CI patient population. Findings/Conclusions There is a general agreement that AR is an integral part of hearing health care for adults with CIs. While the provision of AR is feasible in different clinical practice settings, service delivery models are variable across hearing health care professionals and settings. AR may include interprofessional collaboration among surgeons, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists with varying roles based on the characteristics of a particular setting. Despite various existing barriers, the clinical practice patterns identified here provide a starting point toward a more standard approach to comprehensive AR for adults with CIs.
