Green pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is an important vegetable in the Kingdom of Eswatini. However, there is rare information on pepper production using cattle manure.  The experiment was conducted at the University of Swaziland, Luyengo Campus, in the Horticulture Department Lath-house to determine the effects of different rates of cattle manure on the growth and yield of green pepper in order to come up with a suitable application rate for green pepper. Cattle manure was applied at different rates of 20, 40, 60 and 80 tons/ha in a Randomized Complete Block Design, while 2:3:2 which was used as a control was applied at 150 kg/ha. For every increase in the application level/rate of the cattle manure, there was a considerable increase in the growth parameters that were measured. Results obtained from this experiment indicate that applying cattle manure at 80 tons/ha gave relatively higher yields. This cattle manure rate can be used by farmers in green pepper production.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2019 at farmer’s field in Panruti near Cuddalore district (Tamil Nadu) to study effect of organic manures as INM component on growth, yield and quality of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) in a randomized block design. The treatments consisted of recommended dose of fertilizers at two levels (160:60:30 and 120:45:22.5 kg NPK ha-1) and organic manures (20 t FYM ha-1, 50 kg Bio ash ha-1, 5 t press mud granules ha-1, 20 kg Sea weed extract granules ha-1 and 5 t neem cake ha-1) and replicated three times. The growth and yield parameters of chilli were significantly influenced due to application of organic manures. Among the treatments, 75% RDF + 20 t FYM + 20 kg Sea weed extract granules + 5 t neem cake ha-1 (T8) exhibited better performances of growth and yield parameters of chilli cv. Indus 13. The maximum values of growth parameters such as plant height, leaves plant-1, branches plant-1, canopy volume, chlorophyll content in the leaves and net photosynthetic rate were observed in this treatment (T8). The yield parameters such as days to first flowering, days to 50% flowering, flowers plant-1, fruit set, fruits plant-1, fruit length, fruit girth, pericarp thickness, pulp seed ratio, single fruit weight, total fruit yield (28.18 t ha-1) and quality parameters like capsaicin content (0.76%) and ascorbic acid content (171.3 mg g-1) were highest in this treatment (T8) suggested this is the best integrated nutrient management combination for chilli. Application of 100% RDF (160 : 30 : 30 kg ha-1) proved inferior in respect of growth and yield of chilli.

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of red chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) during 2015-16 at the Division of vegetable crops, Indian Institute of Horticulture Research, Hessaraghatta, Bangalore to determine the effect of different fertigation sources and mulching on growth parameters, yield and fertilizer use efficiency (FUE). Fertigation was done both water soluble fertilizers and normal fertilizers with different doses. The results revealed that significantly higher growth and yield parameters viz., plant height (cm), number of branches per plant, leaf area and leaf area index, number of fruits per plant, length of the fruit (cm), girth of the fruit (cm), fruit weight (g) dry fruit yield per plant (g), dry fruit yield per hectare (t) were observed by the treatments viz., application of water soluble fertilizers 100 per cent (Recommended dose of fertilizers) RDF using urea, 19:19:19 and KNO3 through fertigation with mulching, followed by Normal fertilizers 100 per cent RDF using Urea, DAP, MOP through fertigation with mulching. From this investigation it is concluded that water soluble fertilizers as well as normal fertilizers fertigation with mulching ideal for maximum growth and yield of the chilli crop.

An experiment consisting of four phosphorus levels (0, 40, 60 and 80 kg/ha P2O5) and five zinc levels (0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 kg/ha ZnSO4) was laid out in randomized block design in factorial mode to find out the effect on yield and quality of fodder cowpea [Vigna Unguiculata (L.)Walp.]. Growth parameters viz. plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, leaf length, leaf width and leaf stem ratio were improved with the application of 60 kg/ha P2O5 and 20 kg/ha ZnSO4. Application of 60 kg/ha phosphorus recorded 27.64 t/ha yield, which was 7.50 and 55.6 % higher than 40 kg/ha and no phosphorus application, respectively. Application of zinc in the form of ZnSO4 @ 20 kg/ha increased significantly the green fodder yield (25.89 t/ha). Interaction effect of phosphorus and zinc application was found significant with respect to green fodder, dry matter yield and nutrient uptake. Yield, phosphorus and zinc uptake in cowpea fodder were showing declining trend at combination of application rate more than 60 kg/ha P2O5 and 20 kg/ha ZnSO4.

In spite of the several good properties of peat, recently, some experiments were carried out with the aim of finding natural materials which can substitute for peat. According to the results, several inorganic and organic materials were proved to be suitable for this purpose. This study examines the effect of different organic materials (example: pine bark, composts, peats) on the growth and yield of green pepper (Capsicum annuum L., variety Danubia). We found that the most developed plants were grown in peat-mixtures and pine bark. The average fruit weight was the highest at those plants which were planted also in these media. The plants which were grown in composts fell short of our expectations in development and in yield, too.

So far, research has been conducted to know the effect of cattle manure fertilizer on growth and yield of carrot under Jimma condition. Experiment was conducted at Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at horticulture garden during 2016 cropping season under irrigation condition. Experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design and cattle manure applications with four treatments (0, 5, 10 and 18 tons per hectare) were used. Each treatment was replicated three times. Data was collected from five randomly taken plants per plot. The finding revealed that application of cattle manure on carrot showed a highly significant effect for growth parameters (plant height, canopy diameter, root length and root diameter). Application of cattle manure at 10 tons ha-1 increased carrot root weight by 48.8 % compared to the non-fertilized control treatment. Therefore, this finding would be a base for future research to be conducted.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jenis mikoriza terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil beberapa varietas cabai merah di tanah Andisol. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Mei hingga Oktober 2019 di Kecamatan Lembah Seulawah, Kabupaten Aceh Besar dan Rumah Kaca Fakultas Pertanian lalu analisis dilakukan di Laboratorium Ilmu dan Teknologi Benih dan Laboratorium Fisiologi Tumbuhan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) pola faktorial 3 x 3 dengan 3 ulangan sehingga didapat 9 kombinasi perlakuan dengan 3 ulangan mencakup 27 unit percobaan. Faktor yang diteliti yaitu pupuk hayati jenis mikoriza yang terdiri dari 3 taraf (Glomus mosseae, Gigaspora sp. dan campuran antara Glomus mosseae and Gigaspora sp.) dan varietas yang terdiri dari 3 taraf (PM 999 F1, Lado F1, dan Perintis). Hasil penelitian ini adalah perlakuan jenis mikoriza berpengaruh terhadap parameter tinggi tanaman 15, 30 dan 45 HST, diameter batang 30 dan 45 HST, jumlah cabang produktif 60 HST, berat basah tanaman, berat kering tanaman, berat basah akar, berat kering akar, berat buah, panjang buah, jumlah buah, dan potensi hasil serta berpengaruh nyata terhadap diameter batang 15 HST dan persentase kolonisasi mikoriza. Effect of Mycorrhiza Type on Growth and Yields Several Varieties of Red Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) in Andisol Soil Seulawah Valley of Aceh Besar Abstract. This research aims to determine the effect of mycorrhiza type on the growth and yield several varieties of red chili on Andisol soil. This research was conducted from May to October 2019 in Lembah Seulawah District, Aceh Besar District and Greenhouse, and analysis was conducted at the Seed Science and Technology Laboratory and Plant Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. Analysis of the data used in this study was 3 x 3 Factorial Randomized Block Design with 3 replications so that 9 treatment combinations were obtained with 3 replications covering 27 experimental units. Factors studied were mycorrhiza biofertilizers consisting of 3 levels (Glomus mosseae, Gigaspora sp. And a mixture of Glomus mosseae and Gigaspora sp.) and varieties consisting of 3 levels (PM 999 F1, Lado F1, and Perintis). The results of this study are the treatment of mycorrhiza type has a very significant effect on plant height parameters 15, 30 and 45 DAP, stem diameter 30 and 45 DAP, number of productive branches 60 DAP, plant wet weight, plant dry weight, root wet weight, root dry weight, fruit weight , fruit length, number of fruits, and yield potential and also have a significant effect on stem diameter 15 DAP and percentage of mycorrhiza colonization.

Vegetable crops require nutrients in various quantities for growth, development, and reproduction. Plants nutrients might be naturally available from soil or/ and atmosphere. However, modern cultivation needs artificial supplementation of nutrients. Green pepper is an important vegetable crop in several countries including Afghanistan. Irregular rates and methods of fertilizers application in green pepper production caused its yield to decrease. A study was conducted at the experimental farm of agriculture faculty; Nangarhar University in 2017 with traditional method (control), 1%, 2% and 3% of urea foliar application treatments under the randomized complete block design, this study aimed to investigate and point out the best fertilizer application rate and method for green pepper production in Afghanistan, especially Nangarhar province. The control treatment increased plant height, fruit length, fruit weight, fruit yield and consequently net income compared to other treatments. However, 3% treatment had negligible differences with control; although 1% and 2% treatments got third and fourth positions, respectively. In 3% treatment, the urea was efficiently utilized with lower urea losses compared to the control treatment. Further researches should undertake to find out the proper application rates and methods for other chemical fertilizers.

The use of high doses of chemical fertilizers in the production of chili (Capsicum annuum L.) has an adverse impact on the environment, especially in dryland. This study aimed to examine the role of cow manure (PKS), goat manure (PKK), chicken manure (PKA), or a combination of two manures in reducing 25% of the requirement for chemical fertilizer on chili plants. One experiment was carried out in the dryland of Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency, from May to October 2021. Phonska NPK (15-15-15) chemical fertilizer (PK) at a 1,200 kg/ha dose was used as a control. The treatments tested were 75% PK+PKS, 75% PK+PKK, 75% PK+PKA, 75% PK+PKS+PKK, 75% PK+PKS+PKA and 75% PK+PKK+PKA. The dose of manure used in each treatment was 20 tons/ha. All treatments were repeated three times and arranged in a randomized block design. The results showed that the treatment of manure, especially goat manure and chicken manure, increased the available phosphate (P) in the soil. The growth and yield of chili plants were not significantly different in all treatments, which means that manure could replace the role of 25% of the chemical fertilizer used. These results indicate that manure in the long term can reduce the need for chemical fertilizers to produce chili in dryland.  Key words: chili; dryland; manure; chemical fertilizer; nutrition

Une étude a été entreprise sur les Hautes Terres malgaches. L’objectif est d’évaluer l’effet de la poudre d’os et le fumier de zébu sur la croissance et le rendement de haricot (Phaseolus vulgaris). L’expérimentation a été mise en place avec un dispositif en blocs randomisés à quatre répétitions et quatre traitements : (1) parcelles témoins non fertilisées (T0) et parcelles fertilisées respectivement par (2) de fumier de zébu pur (Tfu), (3) de fumier de zébu combiné avec du N11P22K16 (Tfu+NPK) et (4) de fumier de zébu combiné avec de la poudre d’os (Tfu+os). Les résultats ont montré que la combinaison de fertilisants organiques et minéraux a offert de meilleures croissances (hauteur de la plante et nombre des feuilles) par rapport au simple apport de fertilisant organique. Par ailleurs, les rendements en grains de haricots ont été significativement plus élevés avec Tfu+os (1,77 t.ha-1) par rapport aux traitements Tfu+NPK (1,47 t.ha-1) et Tfu (1,32 t.ha-1). Ces trois traitements étant significativement plus élevés que le traitement témoin sans aucun apport de fertilisant T0 (0,73 t.ha-1). En conclusion, l’apport de la poudre d’os apparaît comme un bon substitut à l’emploi d’engrais de synthèse et pourrait être recommandé pour la production de haricot.Mots clés : Engrais minéral ; phénologie de haricot ; sol ferrallitique ; rendement de culture.   English Title: Bone powder and zebu manure effects on beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L) production in Highlands of MadagascarAn experiment was carried out in Highlands of Madagascar. This study aims to assess zebu bone powder and cattle manure effects in fertilization for common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) growth and yield. Four treatments were compared in a complete randomized block design with four replications: (1) no-fertilized control plots (T0) and fertilized plots respectively with (2) cattle manure only (Tfu); (3) mixed fertilization with cattle manure and N11P22K16 (Tfu+ N11P22K16); and (4) mixed fertilization with cattle manure and bone powder (Tfu + os). In result, mixed fertilizer with organic and mineral improved significantly bean growth parameters (plant height and number of leaf plant) compared with organic fertilizer alone. Bean grain yields were significantly higher with Tfu+os (1.77 t.ha-1) compared to Tfu + NPK (1.47 t.ha 1) and Tfu (1.32 t. ha-1) and which were not significantly different. The control T0 (0.73 t.ha-1) showed significantly lower yield than the three other treatments. In fact, bone powder could be encouraged locally as an alternative resource to synthetic fertilizer.Keywords: Mineral fertilization; bean phenology; ferralitic soil; crop yield.
