To evaluate the combined effect of organic and inorganic fertilizer a field experiment was conducted on tomato for yield and yield contributing character of fruits using vermicompost and different types of inorganic fertilizers at the farms of Ishurdi Sub-station of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear agriculture (BINA) during Rabi season, 2020. One variety (Binatomato-11) and ten different treatments T1 = control (no fertilizer), T2 = 100% CF (Chemical Fertilizer), T3 = 70% CF, T4 = 70% CF + 1 t ha-1 VC (Vermicompost), T5 = 70% CF + 2 t ha-1 VC, T6 = 70% CF + 3 t ha-1 VC, T7 = 85% CF, T8 = 85% CF+ 1 t ha-1 VC, T9 = 85% CF+ 2 t ha-1 VC and T10 = 85% CF + 3 t ha-1 VC were used as experimental materials. The field trial was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Results showed that plant height (120.67 cm), number of fruits/plant (53.33), single fruit weight (95 gm), fruit yield (63.33 t/ha), number of fruit picking (5 times) were higher in T5 (70% Chemical fertilizers + 2t ha-1 VC) than control and other treatments. No significant difference was observed in days to 1st flowering response to the treatments. The study revealed that combined effect of vermicompost and inorganic fertilizers affected tomato plant significantly.

An experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from March 2017 to June 2017 with a view to evaluate the effect of different types of fertilizer and netting on the growth and yield of okra. The experiment consisted of 4 levels of fertilizer following cow dung 15 t/ha (F1), inorganic fertilizer (NPK) (F2), combined application of cow dung (2/3) + inorganic fertilizer (1/3) (F3), control (F4) and 2 levels of mosquito netting (N0 = control with no netting, N1=blue colour Netting). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications. Overall, the growth like plant height, leaf length, pod length, pod diameter and pods numbers of okra was found higher from the combined effect of F3N1 which was significantly different from other treatments combination. The lowest growth and yield of okra was found from the treatment combination of F4N0 (control). First flowering were observed in F3N1 at 39 days after planting of okra seeds. The control treatment without net gave the lowest production of okra compared to combination of inorganic fertilizer and cow dung with netting.  In case of fertilizers effect, the highest yield (16.06 t/ha) was found from F3.  Blue colour net gave the highest yield (10.99 t/ha) compared to without net (8.88 t/ha). The highest yield of okra (17.55 t/ha) was found from the combined effect of F3N1 which was 78.52% higher compared to control treatment combination F4N0 (3.77 t/ha). A field experiment was conducted at Nalanda College of Horticulture, Noorsarai, Nalanda during summer 2017 to assess the effect of complementary and sole applications of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of bottle gourd under onion-onion-bottle gourd crop sequence. The experiment consists of seven treatments viz.,T1-Inorganic fertilizers (120 Kg N: 60 Kg P2O5 and 40 Kg K2O); T2-50% NPK through inorganic fertilizer + 50%N through FYM; T3-50% N through FYM + 50% N through VC; T4-1/3 of N through FYM + VC + Neemcake; T5-50% N through FYM + PSB + Azotobactor; T6-T3 + PSB + Azotobactor and T7-T4 + PSB + Azotobactor. These seven treatments were replicated thrice in Randomized Block Design. Results revealed that T1-100% NPK through inorganic fertilizer recorded 225.7 q ha-1 fruit yield, which was statistically at par with T2 and T6 producing (211.8 and 209.5 q ha-1). Vine length differed significantly at all the growth stages. T1 recorded maximum vine length (51.8, 370.3 and 464.7 cm) at 30, 60 and 90 DAS, which was significantly higher over T5 at 30 DAS, over T4 and T5 at 60 DAS and over T5 at 90 DAS. Among organics, T6 recorded longest vine, while T5 recorded shortest. No. of branches were found non-significant at 30 DAS but it become significant at 60 and 90 DAS and found significantly highest in T6 over all the treatments. After completion of the cropping system; onion-onion-bottle gourd, soils were subjected to analysis. pH differed significantly, while non-significant difference were observed in EC and soil Org-C. Similarly, available N and P concentration were also found non-significant due to different fertilizer sources, but the concentration of available K differed significantly and found highest in T1 which was at par with T2. T1-100% inorganic fertilizer sources recorded highest gross return, net return and B: C ratio followed by T2. On the basis of result it has been concluded that T2 having 50% NPK through inorganic fertilizer + 50% N through FYM may found suitable for sustainable bottle gourd production as it performed at par with T1 in respect to crop growth and yield.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of vine and fruit pruning on watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) yield. Five pruning methods: P1=no pruning at all, P2=pruning to four vines with two fruits per vine, P3=pruning to four vines with one fruit per vine, P4=pruning to three vines with two fruits per vine and P5=pruning to three vines with one fruit per vine were evaluated on two watermelon cultivars: ‘Sugar baby’ and ‘Julie F1’ under a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications. Investigations were carried out in the seasons 2017A (short rains) and 2017B (long rains) at Karama and Rubona experimental sites belonging to Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board. The obtained results indicated a significant difference among the different cultivars and pruning methods tested during both seasons and at two sites. Generally, all studied parameters recorded higher values during season 2017B than in season 2017A at Rubona site. A similar trend was recorded at Karama site except that the fruit yield per plant and per hectare for plants which were pruned to three vines with one fruit reduced during season 2017B as compared to season 2017A. The highest number of fruits per plant, fruit weight, fruit yield per plant and per hectare was recorded in ‘Julie F1’ compared to ‘Sugar baby’ at both sites and during both seasons. Higher fruit weight was obtained when both cultivars were pruned to three or four vines with one fruit per vine. Higher number of fruits per plant and higher fruit yield per plant was observed under pruning to four vines with two fruits per vine at Rubona site; while at Karama site, higher fruit yield per plant was recorded under pruning to three vines with one fruit or two fruits per vines and pruning to four vines with two fruits per vine. A similar trend was observed in fruit yield per hectare. Based on results of the current study, cultivation of the hybrid ‘Julie F1’ and pruning to three vines with one fruit per vine is recommended for optimum watermelon yield with big-sized fruits.

The experiment was conducted in medium highland at Dacope, Khulna during rabi season of 2010-11. The aim of the study was to observe the effect of integrated use of bio-slurry along with inorganic fertilizer on the performance of water melon grown in AEZ 13. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Three fertilizer doses viz. T1 : Soil test based inorganic fertilizer dose for high yield goal (HYG), T2 : Cowdung bio-slurry @ 5t/ha + IPNS basis inorganic fertilizer dose for high yield goal and T3 : Farmers’ practice (average of 20 farmers surveyed) were taken as treatment. Results showed that yield and yield contributing characters of water melon were significantly influenced by the treatments. The highest fruit yield (44.50 t/ha) was recorded in cowdung bio-slurry@ 5 t/ha + IPNS basis inorganic fertilizer dose (T2) followed by T1 (40.27 t/ha). The lowest yield (35.20 t/ha) was obtained from farmers’ practice. Economic analysis also revealed that the gross return (Tk. 534000.00/ha) and gross margin (Tk. 427515.00/ha) were higher in T2. This study was conducted to estimate heterosis for the yield and yield contributing traits of 32 cross combinations involving 12 diverse lines of some Bangladeshi tomato genotypes considering line x tester mating fashion at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 winter season. The experiment was designed in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed highly significant difference for all the characters suggesting the presence of genetic variability among the studied materials. Four cross combinations (L1xT1, L3xT2, L3xT3, L5xT1) showed desirable negative significant heterosis for days to first flowering in both relative heterosis (RH) and heterobeltiosis (HB) ranged from -2.56% to -19.05%, respectively. Highest positive significant heterosis in both RH and HB was observed in four crosses L4xT4 (63.48% and 48.25%), L5xT2 (46.77% and 46.27%), L5xT4 (62.58% and 34.78%) and L8xT3 (37.39% and 35.12%) for individual fruit weight (g), while six crosses L1xT2, L1xT4, L3xT2, L4xT4, L5xT4 and L6xT1 exhibited highest positive significant heterosis for yield per plant (kg) in both HB and RH ranged from 16.09% to 88.46% respectively. Heterotic hybrids with maximum number of studied desirable yield contributing traits (8) of both RH and HB were identified only two crosses L1xT2 and L4xT4. The purpose of this research was to find out the response of celery plants when inorganic fertilizers are reduced and substituted with oil palm decanter cake mill waste. This research was conducted at Farmer’s Field in Tangkit Baru Village, Sungai Gelam Sub-district, Muaro Jambi Regency, uses Randomized Block Design with one factor ie decanter cake and inorganic fertilizer (NPK) consists of 7 levels, namely: 100% NPK Fertilizer (as recommended 200 kg urea / ha, 150 kg / ha SP-36, 200 kg / ha KCl ), decanter cake 15 ton / ha, 20 ton / ha, decanter cake 15 ton / ha + 75% dose of NPK (25% reduction of NPK dosage), decanter cake 15 ton / ha + 50% dose of NPK (50% reduction of NPK dose ), decanter cake 20 ton / ha + 75% dose of NPK (25% reduction NPK dose), decanter cake 20 ton / ha + 50% dose of NPK (50% reduction of NPK dose). The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, number of stems per hill, fresh weight per plant and plant growth rate. The results showed, that plant response to the reduction of 50% inorganic fertilizer substituted with decanter cake 15 tons per hectare gave the best celery fresh weight , leaves number and the highest celery stems number. For plant height parameters and the highest plant growth rate indicated that there was no significant difference between 15 tons per hectare and 20 tons per hectare of decanter cake at 50 percent reduction of inorganic fertilizers.

In this study, we investigated the fruit, seed yield and biofuel production potentials of Jatropha curcas in soils fertilized with different rates of rice husk dust (RHD) and NPK 10:10:10. This study took place at the Teaching and Research Farm of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Technology, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana from April 2020 to March 2021. Treatments comprised of six rates (0, 1,2,3,4 and 5 ton ha-1) each of RHD and NPK, arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in a factorial pattern. Nursery Jatropha seedling of average heights of about 30 cm and 5-6 true leaves were transplanted to the field a month after treatment application. Our measurement between 10 to 12 months of Jatropha growth focused on the number of fruits, weight of fruits, number of seeds, weight of seeds and quantity of oil per plant. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Least Significant Difference (LSD) tools were used to analyze the obtained data and separated the significant means respectively. The relationship between yield parameters and selected soil chemical properties was determined using correlation analysis. Results indicated that relative to control, addition of RHD and NPK as lone and combined treatments increased the fruit, seed yield and oil quantity of Jatropha. Relative to control, fruit number increased by 72.80%, fruit weight by 79.81% and number of seeds by 80.73%. Similarly, the seed weight and oil content increased by 28.11% and 21.485 respectively. Organic matter, available phosphorus and total nitrogen had highly significant correlation with fruit, seed yield and oil quantity. Treatments combination of 5tonha-1 RHD and 5tonha-1 relatively gave the most appreciable result in fruit, seed yield and oil quantity and therefore recommended.

The objective of this research was to study the effect of bokashi livestock on the growth and yield of tomatoes. The experiment was conducted in Bandar Lampung from October 2009 until February 2010. The experimental design was randomized complete block design with 3 replications. The treatments were: control; inorganic fertilizers at a recommended rate of (kg ha-1) 135 N, 75 P2O5, and 110 K2O (RR); chicken manure bokashi + RR; chicken manure bokashi + 50% RR; cow manure bokashi + RR; cow manure bokashi + 50% RR; sheep manure bokashi + RR; sheep manure bokashi + 50% RR; horse manure bokashi + RR; horse manure bokashi + 50% RR. Each bokashi treatment was applied at the rate of 20 ton ha-1. The result of experiment showed that chicken manure bokashi was the best among bokashi livestock. The application of 50% RR combined with chicken, cow, sheep or horse manure bokashi gave a higher yield than treatment with inorganic fertilizer at recommended rates. These results demostrated that the application of bokashi livestock could potentially reduce the use of inorganic fertilizers while maintaining higher yield. An experiment was set up in the Research Farm of Patuakhali Science and Technology University, during the rabi season of 2015 to evaluate the effect of fertilizers and manures on the growth and yield of Potato. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two potato varieties namely Diamant (V1) and Cardinal (V2) and five different types and rates of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers viz. T0: Control , T1: NPK, T2: NPK + CW(Cowdung), T3: NPK+ PM(Poultry Mannure) and T4: CW(Cowdung), + PM(Poultry Mannure)  were used for the present study. The two–factor experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Result showed that almost all the characters were affected significantly due to the effect of varieties, organic–inorganic fertilizer and their combinations .In case of treatments, NPK with PM also showed the tallest plant (39.76 cm), highest fresh and dry weight (95.97 and 6.05 g plant–1, respectively), CGR and RGR (0.086 and 0.218 g m–2 day–1, respectively), gross (24.36 t ha–1) and marketable (23.39 t ha–1) compared other treatments. In case of interaction, the highest plant height (41.00 cm), highst fresh and dry weight (96.87 and 3.62 g plant–1, respectively), highest CGR and RGR (0.089 and 0.228 g m–2 day–1, respectively) as well as the highest gross (24.45 t ha–1) and marketable (23.67 t ha–1) yield were recorded in Diamant at NPK with PM. From the above observation it may be concluded that the variety Diamant at NPK + PM was more effective under Patuakhali region.Progressive Agriculture 27 (4): 435-443, 2016

A field experiment was carried out at Sonapur of Muradnagar upazilla in Cumilla district under the Debidwar MLT (Multi-Location Testing) site during the rabi season of 2013-15. The experiment was conducted in the Old Meghna Estuarine Floodplain (AEZ-19) soil. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications.The treatments were: T1= Soil Test Based (STB) Fertilizer dose (FRG 2012), T2= T1+ 15% STB, T3= T1+ 30% STB, T4= 80% STB from inorganic fertilizer + 20% STB from CD/PM, T5= Farmers’ Practice andT6= Control. Among the treatments, T4 gave the maximum seed yield (1385.56 kg ha-1) which was at par with T1, T3 and T2 treatments. The lowest seed yield (450.20 kg ha-1) was obtained from T6 (Control).
