Aims: To investigate the effect of the placement and foliar application of Urea, KCl & Zinc on growth and yield of cowpea under guava based agri-horti system in Vindhyan region, India. Study Design:  RBD with nine treatments and three replications. Place and Duration of Study: Agricultural Research Farm, Barkachha, Mirzapur (UP), India during kharif season (June-Oct) of 2017. Methodology: This experiment consisted nine different treatments viz; Control (T1), 2% Urea spray (T2),  30 kg KCl ha-1 (T3), 2% KCl spray (T4), 2% Urea spray + 2% KCl spray (T5),  5 kg Zn ha-1 (T6), 2% Urea spray + 5 kg Zn ha-1 (T7), 30 kg KCl ha-1+ 5 kg Zn ha-1 (T8),  2% Urea spray + 2% KCl spray + 1.5% Zn spray (T9). Various growth parameter, yield attributes, N, P, K and nutrients contents were recorded and compared. Results: Significantly higher growth parameters like  plant height-1, no of branches plant-1, fresh weight-1 and dry weight-1, yield attributes like number of seeds pod-1, pod length, pod yield plant-1, green pod yield were recorded in 2% Urea spray + 2% KCl spray + 1.5% Zn spray (T9). Maximum N, K and protein content in straw and seed also observed in T9. Conclusion: foliar spray of 2% Urea + 2% KCl spray + 1.5% Zn spray was best method for supplementary nourishment of cowpea under guava based Agri-horti system. The experiment should be reported for one to two seasons more in order to reach final conclusion.

A field experiment was conducted at the Plant Physiology Field of Horticulture Research Center (HRC), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur during the rabi seasons of 2015-16 and 2016-17 to study the response of cabbage (var. Krishibid Hybrid-1 and Atlas-70) to foliar application of GA3 and NAA with different concentrations. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete block Design with three replications. The experiment consisted of eight treatments viz., three levels of GA3 (at 50, 75 and 100 ppm) and four levels of NAA (at 40, 60, 80 and 100 ppm) along with distilled water as control. The varieties Krishibid Hybrid-1 and Atlas-70 were used in 2015-16 and 2016-17, respectively. Foliar spray of GA3 and NAA was given at 25 and 45 days after transplanting of seedling. The results of the investigation indicated significant differences among the treatments on most of the parameters studied. In Krishibid Hybrid-1, application of 50 ppm GA3 and 60 ppm NAA increased plant height, plant spread, number of leaves, chlorophyll content, head height, head diameter, single head weight without unfolded leaves as well as head yield (81.18 t/ha for 50 ppm GA3 and 78.57 t/ha for 60 ppm NAA) than the control (67.29 t/ha) and other treatments. But, in Atlas-70, application of 75 ppm GA3 gave the maximum values of most of the growth parameters, yield components and yield (102.40 t/ha), which was followed by 50 ppm GA3 (94.96 t/ha). In Krishibid Hybrid-1, application of 60 ppm NAA gave the highest benefit-cost ratio (BCR) of 3.63 followed by 75 ppm GA3 (3.59) while in Atlas-70, 75 ppm GA3 recorded the highest BCR of 4.79 followed by 50 ppm GA3 (4.54) and 60 ppm NAA (4.37). Therefore, application of GA3 @ 50-75 ppm or NAA @ 60 ppm concentration can be recommended for increasing the yield of cabbage with higher return. Bangladesh J. Agril. A field experiment was conducted during the summer, 2014 at College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Kerala to evaluate the influence of irrigation levels, nitrogen stress and method of application of fertilizers on growth and yield of yard long bean. The experiment consisted of four levels of irrigation, two levels of nitrogen and two methods of application. The results indicated that daily irrigation at 10 mm depth and recommended dose of nitrogen (30 kg ha-1) recorded superior values for growth parameters viz., functional leaves per plant and leaf area index The major yield attributes like number of pods per plant and pod yield per plant and total pod yield were not influenced by levels of irrigation and nitrogen indicating that irrigation once in three days at 20 mm depth and nitrogen level of 22.5 kg ha-1 is sufficient for yard long bean. Soil and foliar application of nitrogen and potassium recorded superior growth characters, however, the yield was superior when the recommended dose of nutrients were supplied as soil application. Increasing irrigation interval to three days and imparting N stress did not result in any reduction in gross income and net income while, a higher benefit: cost ratio was noted in irrigation at wider intervals. Soil application of nutrients recorded higher gross income, net income and BCR compared to soil + foliar application.

A field experiment was carried out during rabi season of 2018-2019, at college farm, College of Horticulture, Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. The experiment was laidout in a Randomised Block Design with eleven treatments (viz., T1- NAA @ 50 ppm, T2-NAA @ 100 ppm, T3-GA3 @ 50 ppm,  T4-GA3 @ 100 ppm, T5-Thiourea @ 250 ppm, T6-Thiourea @ 500 ppm, T7-28-Homobrassinolide @ 0.1 ppm, T8-28-Homobrassinolide @ 0.2 ppm, T9-Triacontinol @ 2.5 ppm, T10-Triacontinol @ 5 ppm, T11-(Control) Water spray) and three replications. The treatments were imposed at 30 and 45 DAT in the form of foliar spray. Foliar application of GA3@ 100 ppm (T4) had recorded the maximum plant height (108.20 cm), leaf area (9.53 cm2) and leaf area index (0.74). Foliar application of thiourea @ 250 ppm (T5) had recorded the maximum values with respect to number of primary branches (15.03 plant-1), number of secondary branches (83.40 plant-1), plant spread (1793 cm2 plant-1), fresh weight (376.29 g plant-1), dry weight (103.54 g plant-1) and number of leaves plant-1((298.8). The same treatment (T5) had recorded the highest values with respect to crop growth rate (1.44 gm-2d-1), chlorophyll-a (1.40 mg g-1), chlorophyll-b (0.076 mg g-1) and total chlorophyll contents (1.48 mg g-1) in the leaves.

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur, Bangladesh during the period of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 to investigate the effect of vermiwash on growth, yield and quality of brinjal and to find out suitable foliar dose of vermiwash for optimizing the yield of brinjal. There were five treatments comprising T1= Chemical fertilizer (CF) + foliar spray of distilled water (control), T2 = CF + foliar spray of 10% vermiwash, T3 = CF + foliar spray of 20% vermiwash, T4 = CF + foliar spray of 30% vermiwash and T5= CF + foliar spray of 40% vermiwash. Results revealed that, vermiwash treated brinjal plants showed better growth and yield parameters than the control plants. The highest average brinjal fruit yield (29.99 t ha-1) was found in T3 treatment i.e., foliar spray of 20% concentration of vermiwash and the lowest (26.35 t ha-1) came from control. On the other hand, nutritional quality (moisture content, TSS, β carotene and nutrient content) were seen to be higher in vermiwash treated treatment compared to control treatment. The study suggests that, 20% concentration of vermiwash could be used as effective foliar spray for eco-friendly and higher yield of brinjal.

Abstract Chitosan is a natural heterogeneous polymer, non-toxic and find many potential applications in agriculture. The search of a biopolymer to replace the synthetic agrochemicals, the effects of foliar application of chitosan solution on agronomic performance under field experiments have been investigated in two consecutive harvests (2014/2015 and 2015) of soybean and maize. Two chitosan concentrations (0.5 and 1%) were sprayed four times during the culture development and the evaluation was based on morphological characteristics, growth and yield components. Seeds were collected to determine the content of macro- and micronutrients. Results revealed that most of the morphological and growth parameters (plant height, leaf number per plant) and yield attributes were not increased with the chitosan treatment in soybean and maize. The soybean treated with foliar application of chitosan 0.5% increased the accumulation of nitrogen by 9.14% when compared with the water treatment, but the effect was not consistent in both seasons and cultivars. The values of the other nutrients did not change the content. Maize plants treated with chitosan (0.5% or 1%) significantly decreased the boron concentration by 66.7% in the grains analyzed and may have influenced the plant development (height) without altering the other agronomic parameters. Therefore, whereas the climatic conditions in these two seasons were stable and biotic or abiotic stresses were not observed, foliar application of chitosan solution did not present differences that could establish a pattern of behavior in field experiments conducted by two harvests.

Field experiments with French bean comprising two varieties (BARI bush bean-1 and BARI bush bean-2), three plant densities (500 x 103, 333 x 103, and 250 x 103 plants/ha as maintained by 20 x 10, 30 x 10, and 40 x 10 cm spacings, respectively) and three levels of N (0, 60, and 120 kg/ha) were conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Raikhali in the district of Rangamati during the winter (rabi) seasons of 2004-05 and 2005-06. BARI bush bean-1 outyielded BARI bush bean-2. The lowest plant density (250 x 10 plants/ha) recorded significantly higher values of growth and yield attributes, except plant height which was the maximum with the highest plant density of 500 x 103 plants/ha. The highest plant density of (500 x 103 plants/ha) resulted in the highest pod yield in comparison with the lower and medium plant densities. Application of 120 kg N/ha coupled with the highest plant density (500 x l03 plants/ha) gave the maximum pod yield of 34.3 t/ha and 30.2 t/ha in BARI bush bean-I and BARI bush bean-2, respectively. Background: To study effect of various spacing and weed management practices on weed control, growth parameter, yield and yield attributes of pigeon pea variety Pusa Arhar-16, field experiments were conducted at Student’s Research Farm, Khalsa College Amritsar, Punjab, India during kharif season of 2019-20.Methods: The experiment was laid out in Split plot design with three replications. The treatments comprised of four different spacing i.e. S1 (30×10 cm), S2 (30×15 cm), S3 (40×15 cm) and S4 (50×25 cm) which were considered as main plot treatments and three weed management practices W1 (weedy check), W2 (pendimethalin @ 1.5 kg a.i. ha-1 at 1DAS) and W3 (rice straw mulch) as sub-plot treatments.Result: It was found that maximum plant height (218.2 cm) and highest leaf area index (2.104) was recorded in treatment S1 (30×10 cm) whereas treatment S4 (50×25 cm) was superior in rest of growth parameters viz. maximum crop growth rate (0.85 gram per plant per day), number of primary branches (18.2 per plant) and number of secondary branches (13.8 per plant). Among yield and yield attributes, spacing S1 (30×10 cm) showed maximum grain yield (16.29 q ha-1) and stover yield (49.29 q ha-1) whereas, maximum number of pods per plant (154.6), pod length (4.83 cm), number of seeds per pod (3.90) and 100-seed weight (7.14 grams) were recorded in spacing S4 (50×25 cm). The weed management treatments showed non-significant effect on growth and yield parameters due to weed suppressing ability of the crop. which might be due to weed suppressing ability of the crop. It may be concluded that pigeon pea cultivar Pusa Arhar-16 performed better in narrower spacing of 30×10 cm due to its dwarf nature and it also showed good smothering effect on the weeds due to its smothering effect.

Boron is an important micronutrient for growth and development of crop plants. Plant species differ in their requirement of boron for growth. This study was conducted to determine the effect of boron application on the plant characteristics of maize during early leaf stages. The experiments were conducted in Tel – Kaliş agricultural research area at the Mustafa Kemal University in 2015 and 2016 growing seasons. The field experiments were arranged in a split plot design with three replications. Four boron dosages (control, 4, 6 and 8 mg/m2) were applied at three growing stages (V2, V4 and V2V4 (at V2 and V4 stages in two equal parts) as foliar spray. The results revealed that the effects of foliar application of B were positive but statistically insignificant on plant characteristics. Further researches should be conducted for suitable boron application time at different growth stages of maize.

Pyraclostrobin (F500), an agricultural fungicide derived from the fungal sec-ondary metabolite strobilurin, is known to enhance growth and yield of cere-als when applied on healthy plants. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of Pyraclostrobin (F500) on growth and yield of healthy plants of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum L.) var. Pusa early under field conditions. Pyraclostrobin (F500) was applied as a foliar spray in the four different concentrations (0.005 g L-1, 0.01 g L-1, 0.025 g L-1 and 0.1 g L-1), on 15th, 30th and 45th days after emergence of seedlings. Unsprayed plants served as control. F500 treatment enhanced the biomass (Plant height, fresh weight and dry weight) and yield parameters (Number of pods per plant, seeds per plant and 100 seed weight). Although enhancements in growth and yield parameters were observed with all the concentrations of F500 used, it was maximum at 0.01 g L-1 concentration. Enhanced biomass showed positive correlation with increase in yield and seed quality (seed weight per plant). Thus, F500 can be successfully employed as a foliar spray under field conditions to enhance the yield of T. foenum graecum.

In the field experiment Sargassum myricocystum extract at 1% concentration for 3 h soaking with foliar spray 5% at vegetative and flowering stages were effective by recording higher plant height, total chlorophyll content, leaf area index, crop growth rate, relative growth rate and yield attributes, such as pod yield plant-1 and seed yield ha-1 in both kharif, 2014 and rabi, 2015 seasons. The per cent increase of pod yield plant-1 and seed yield ha-1 was 13.4 and 18.3%, respectively. The other seaweeds viz., Gracilaria edulis, Caulerpa racemosa were less effective, but the effect was better than water.
