PurposeE-commerce, with technology as its backbone, is an indispensable business trend associated with the wave of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Recently, its intensifying role has also been noticed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, technology adoption to pursue an e-commerce model for agribusinessmen is not easy, while the COVID-19 has made them lose customers and led them to crises. In that context, the role of social capital (SC) has increasingly been paid significant attention, especially for micro and family businesses. Agribusinessmen can use SC to adopt technology, renew and reinforce their businesses in the global agricultural supply chain disruption context. However, there seems to be a dearth of an integral measurement of social capital (IMSC) to apply to the practice effectively. Recognizing this need, the current study aims to develop an integral scale for SC.Design/methodology/approachThis research adopts a widely accepted and rigorous scale development process, a mixed-methods research design and essential statistical techniques to develop an IMSC.FindingsThe result develops an IMSC consisting of nine facets: linking-corporate, bonding-bridging, trust in political institutions, trust in public services, generalized social trust, norms and social sanctions, subjective safety, civicness and community cohesiveness. The scales of these facets are found to be unidimensional, reliable and valid.Originality/valueThis is the first study developing an IMSC to contribute to the extant literature. The study also provides managerial implications for practitioners to strengthen SC and adopt technology to improve their businesses.

Recent innovation in business intelligence (BI) assists companies to stay successful and competitive with the increasing business trend. Businesses have started to examine the succeeding level of data analytics and BI solution. At the same time, Customer Churn Prediction (CCP) is an essential procedure involved in business decision making that effectually determines the churn clients and performs adequate processes to retain customers. With this motivation, this paper presents a sandpiper optimization with bidirectional gated recurrent unit (SPO-BiGRU) for CCP on BI applications. The SPO-BiGRU model aims for determining the occurrence of customers into churner or non-churner. In addition, the SPO-BiGRU technique involves pre-processing, classification, and hyperparameter optimization. Followed by, the BiGRU model is applied to perform the predictive process. At last, the SPO algorithm is applied to optimally adjust the hyperparameters involved in the BiGRU model. For validating the enhanced performance of the SPO-BiGRU method, a wide range of simulations take place and the results are inspected under varying aspects. The experimental results portrayed the supremacy of the SPO-BiGRU technique over the recent state of art approaches.

The activeness of regional business entities, like restaurants, cinemas and shopping malls, represents the evolvement of their corresponding commercial districts, whose prediction helps practitioners grasp the trend of commercial development and provides support for urban layout. On the other hand, online social network services, such as Yelp, are generating massive online reviews toward business entities every day, which provide a solid data source for the prediction of regional commercial activeness and entity condition through big data technology rather than applying business data with limited access and poor time efficiency. Inspired by the outstanding performance of deep learning in the field of image and video processing, this paper proposes a deep spatio-temporal residual network (DSTRN) model for regional commercial activeness prediction using online reviews and check-in records of commercial entities. Furthermore, aiming at predicting business trend of entities, we also propose a novel multi-view entity condition prediction model (SBCE) based on online views, along with business attributes and regional commercial activeness. The experiments on the public Yelp datasets demonstrate that both DSTRN and SBCE outperform the compared approaches.
