Perfect boron nitride (BN) nanotubes are chemically inert, and hardly considered as catalysts. Nevertheless, metal wire encapsulated BN nanotubes show extraordinarily high chemical activity. We report nickel (Ni) nanowire encapsulated BN(8.0) and BN(9.0) nanotubes toward O2 activation and CO oxidization on the basis of first-principles calculations. Our results suggest that Ni wire encapsulated BN(8.0) and BN(9.0) nanotubes can easily adsorb and activate O2 molecules to form peroxo or superoxo species exothermically. Meanwhile, superoxo species are ready to react with CO molecules forming OCOO intermediate state and finally yielding CO2 molecules. Meanwhile, the rate-limiting step barrier is only 0.637 eV, implying excellent performance for CO oxidation on Ni nanowire encapsulated BN nanotubes. Furthermore, encapsulation of nickel wire improves the catalytic activity of BN nanotubes by facilitating electron transfer from Ni wire to BN nanotubes, which facilitates the adsorption of highly electronegative O2 molecules and subsequent CO oxidation. This study provides a practical and efficient strategy for activating O2 on a metal encapsulated BN nanotube toward CO oxidation.

Floods and their problems show an increasing indication when rainfall is high. Data from BNPB shows that floods, landslides and tornadoes contributed to the total disasters in Indonesia in a decade. The existence of an early warning flood disaster can help evacuate before a disaster strikes. The system requires a water level detector as the basic data for determining flood predictions. In order to get the water level value, a touch water method can be used using electrodes or without touching the water with the help of pressure sensors, ultrasonic and imaging. Each method has advantages over the other. In this study, the effectivity and accuracy of detecting water levels were investigated using 3 methods: the direct touch of water through nickel wire, buoys with encoder, and pressure sensors. Detection of water levels can be used as a reference to obtain river water level data which is then connected via an IoT or internet connection as a reference for the Early Warning System for the arrival of floods. This study found that changes in water level of less than 30 cm can utilize buoys and encoders with an accuracy of detecting 5 to 6 counts per 1 mm increase in water level. Meanwhile, the measurement of less than 30 cm water level using nickel wire resulted in a non-linear value. The utilization of nickel wire can be used for a height of more than 30 cm where the change in resistivity has started to be linear. ADC change value is 2.93 mV/cm using 10 bit ADC at 5 Volt reference voltage. For water level heights of 50 cm and above, a pressure sensor can use a pressure sensor that can detect changes in pressure of 0.002 in Hg/mm or 0.05 mmHg/mm.

Currently, dependence on fossil energy, especially petroleum, is still high at 96% of the total consumption. One solution to overcome fossil energy consumption is processing alternative energy sources derived from microalgae biomass. This study aims to study the pyrolysis of microalgae with the addition of the C12-4 (Cr2O3+Fe2O3+C+CuO+promoter) catalyst. The biomass used in this study was Spirulina platensis residue (SPR). This study used a fixed bed reactor with an outer diameter of 44 mm, an inner diameter of 40 mm, and a total reactor height of 600 mm. The C12-4 was mixed fifty grams of SPR with a particle size of 100 mesh with a ratio variation of 5, 10, and 15 wt.%. The feed mixture was placed in the reactor (in-situ), and the reactor was tightly closed. The nickel-wire heater wrapped around the reactor wall was employed. The pyrolysis heating rate was  24.33 °C/min on average, and the temperatures were varied as 300, 400, 500, 550, and 600 °C. The research found that the optimum temperature conditions without and with the catalyst to produce bio-oil were different. The pyrolysis without any catalyst (500 ⁰C), with a catalyst of 5 wt.% (500 ⁰C), 10 wt.% (400 ⁰C), and 15 wt.% (550 ⁰C) produced the bio-oil yield of 15.00, 17.92, 16.78 and 16.54, respectively. The use of 5, 10, and 15 wt.% catalysts increased the water phase yield. The char yield was influenced by the amount of catalyst only at 300 ⁰C; i.e., the more catalysts, the less char yield. The pyrolysis without any catalysts produced the highest gas product. A catalyst significantly increased the pyrolysis conversion from 48.69 (without catalyst) to 62.46% (15. wt.% catalyst) at a temperature of 300 ⁰C. The optimum conditions for producing the best bio-oil were at 600 °C and 10 wt.% of catalysts, which resulted in an O/C ratio of 0.14.Keywords: C12-4 catalyst, in-situ catalytic pyrolysis, Spirulina platensis residue, yield bio-oilA B S T R A KKetergantungan terhadap energi fosil khususnya minyak bumi, saat ini masih tinggi yaitu mencapai 96% dari total konsumsi.

Traditionally, on reactors of the VVER type, a manual measuring tool is used to inspect the sealing surfaces of the main joint. To automate testing, a PGR-59 system was developed, which was successfully applied to three new power units of type VVER-1200. The purpose of the application is to measure the geometric characteristics of the main joint and determine the filling factor of the sealing grooves with nickel wire. Measurement is performed by laser scanning. Additionally, the article has a television camera for searching for defects with the possibility of measuring their dimensions. The result of the work was the obtaining of actual profiles of seating surfaces of the main joint of the reactor. The use of the PGR-59 system allows you to monitor the change in the profile of the seating surfaces, which constantly changes due to mechanical impact on the seating surfaces, predict its condition and plan the necessary repairs in advance. Based on the measurement results, new data were found on the nature of the main connector seal. The information obtained during the actual measurements made it possible to improve the operational and ergonomic characteristics of the system.

The effect of weld passes and single V grove designs, on the corrosion resistance of dissimilar welds of a low alloy steel and a super-duplex stainless steel, was studied in synthetic brine. Welds were manufactured in argon by gas tungsten arc (GTA) technique and joined by a high nickel wire of super-duplex stainless steel. Samples of weld regions were characterized by composition scans, electrochemical measurements, micro-hardness and scanning electron microscopy. In X52/ER2594, a transition region (TR) of grain boundaries type II and a band of martensite were formed. The base metal of X52 underwent the highest corrosion rate and localized corrosion occurred in the heat affected zone. Interface ER2594/25Cr7Ni and 25Cr7Ni showed the presence of pitting near intermetallics.

A non-equiatomic high-entropy alloy (HEA) of the Al – Co – Cr – Fe – Ni system was obtained using wire-arc additive manufacturing technology in the atmosphere of pure argon. The initial wire had 3 conductors with different chemical composition: pure aluminum wire (Al ≈ 99.95 %), chromium-nickel wire (Cr ≈ 20 %, Ni ≈ 80 %), and cobalt alloy wire (Co ≈ 17 %, Fe ≈ 54 %, Ni ≈ 29 %). The resulting sample of high-entropy alloy was a parallelepiped consisting of 20 deposited layers in height and 4 layers in thickness. The alloy had the following elemental composition, detected by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy: aluminum (35.67 ± 1.34 at. %), nickel (33.79 ± 0.46 at. %), iron (17.28 ± 1.83 at. %), chromium (8.28 ± 0.15 at. %) and cobalt (4.99 ± 0.09 at. %). Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the source material has a dendritic structure and contains particles of the second phase at grain boundaries. Element distribution maps obtained by mapping methods have shown that grain volumes are enriched in aluminum and nickel, while grain boundaries contain chromium and iron. Cobalt is distributed in the crystal lattice of the resulting HEA quasi-uniformly. It is shown that during tensile tests, the material was destroyed by the mechanism of intra-grain cleavage. The formation of brittle cracks along the boundaries and at the junctions of grain boundaries, i.e., in places containing inclusions of the second phases, is revealed. It was suggested that one of the reasons for the increased fragility of HEA, produced by wire-arc additive manufacturing, is revealed uneven distribution of elements in microstructure of the alloy and also the presence in material volume of discontinuities of various shapes and sizes.

The purpose of this study is to attempt to increase the efficiency of LPG stoves by using an ember element made of woven nickel wire arranged in layers. It is supposed that high-temperature embers can burn more fuel around the wire, thereby increasing the area of complete combustion. Testing was conducted by means of a Water Boiling Test (WBT) and the number of ember layers varied from one to four. It was found that the use of elements of fire without reflectors could increase efficiency by 8.32%, with the highest efficiency being with the use of a single layer ember element of the fire, of 61.71%. However, the use of elements of fire in the finned heat reflectors causes efficiency to decrease, as the pattern to put elements of fire interfere with the reflectivity. This means the heat reflection is blocked by the pattern and trapped between the reflector and pattern elements. As a result, the heat energy from the reflector reflection cannot be forwarded to the combustion zone. The test results also show that the temperature distribution from ember element use can increase the area of complete combustion.
