Transparencies were commonplace in the 1980s when the first NCTM Standards were released. This article reflects on how the use of an overhead projector and transparencies helped to enact the Process Standards - and make the real purpose of learning mathematics more transparent to students.

This chapter describes how the overhead projector develops into a projection tool which first experiences broad cultural acceptance through its use in schools. In the 1960s and 1970s, the first theories of Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) emerged, promising increased productivity and innovation through research organization in small, interdisciplinary teams. The overhead projector then was regarded as a medium that reinforces interactivity and collective thinking in such small groups via dynamic transparencies, explicitly separated from 35mm slide projection as a medium of organization of a passive crowd of isolated spectators. In the course of digitalization, this idea of organization then turns into its opposite: PowerPoint, originally developed for the production of transparencies for overhead projectors, became a presentation tool through the coupling with projectors, which organizes a passive crowd of spectators in front of static slides like the 35mm slide projection before. A large part of PowerPoint’s epistemological criticism today stems from this form of medial organization.

This study investigates the impact of different teaching techniques, e.g. projecting pictures using an overhead projector and the traditional way of teaching, in improving Arabic-speaking EFL learners’ production of antonyms in English. A production test was administered, including 20 pairs of antonyms, to assess the students’ knowledge of English antonyms before the instructional intervention. To this end, 40 grade six students were divided into two groups: treatment and control. After the instructional intervention, a Pictionary Test was implemented, including 10 pairs of antonyms as post-test to determine if projecting pictures via an overhead projector can be an effective technique in increasing students’ production of English antonyms. The results showed that the number of accurate answers provided by the treatment group (who were taught using pictures via overhead projector) was higher than that provided by the control group (who were taught via the traditional method). This suggests that the former teaching technique may have played an important role in their performance on the test. It can be concluded that teaching via overhead projector with pictures seems to be an effective instructional intervention in teaching English antonyms.

Background: A teacher’s basic tool for displaying lectures are through blackboards, pegboards, bulletin boards, transparencies with an overhead projector (TOHP), PowerPoint presentation and walk and talk. Nowadays PowerPoint presentation is commonly used as it has ability to present the information in a clear, organized and simpler manner. The present study was carried out to find out the best method of teaching amongst the undergraduate Physiotherapy students. Objective: To compare the impact of the PowerPoint multimedia presentation and chalkboard in teaching by assessing the knowledge based on the marks obtained in the pretest and posttest. Methodology: 40 students were divided into two groups and a selected content-based lecture in pharmacology was delivered. For one group lecture was delivered using PowerPoint presentation, for second group using Chalkboard. Single - best Multiple Choice Questions [MCQs] paper was used for assessing the knowledge gained. The differences in the marks obtained in the two groups were analyzed Results: Students who attended the class on chalkboard obtained significantly higher score in single best MCQ examination compared to those students who attended the same content based lecture on the PowerPoint. Conclusion: The chalkboard method of teaching was found more suitable tool of teaching and learning than PowerPoint for small group.

According to the changes in parents attitude towards the school are following different types of syllabuses, namely, State board, CBSE, Matriculation and Delhi board. They are also following various types of teaching techniques using overhead projector, group discussion charts, models etc., They are more popularly used teaching aids in institution following, matriculation and CBSE syllabus. This helps the students to shine in their subjects. The teaching methods and curriculum are getting more attention in private schools. The parents are preferring matriculation and CBSE syllabi which have more subjects and more practical with computer knowledge. The objectives of the present study is to know the perception of parents towards matriculation schools. It is found that there is no significant association between socio economic profile of the respondents and their level of perception towards matriculation schools.
