For Canadian academic libraries, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated an unprecedented switch to virtual services. An abrupt halt to in-person activities required almost all libraries to utilize new technologies in order to continue serving patrons. While the Academic Data Centre (ADC) has traditionally offered both physical and online services, with the emergence of the pandemic, the ADC pivoted to exclusively online service provision. Through new initiatives such as remote desktop access to statistical software, embedded virtual spaces for consultation and breakout discussions, online workshops and teaching, and the use of social media--the Academic Data Centre emerged successful in supporting student and faculty data needs.  While virtually scaling up data services was essential to avoid disrupting researchers working with data, the shift to online services also presented an unexpected opportunity to reflect meeting the data needs of users and, in turn, strategize innovative future data service delivery. Three themes emerged from our reflection: emphasis on greater accessibility; more flexible instruction; and the benefits for cultivating a data community. As emerge from the pandemic, the ADC expects to further embrace newly implemented technologies and virtual services to further scale and augment research data service support.

With the development of mobile network technology, the continuous increase of mobile traffic has put forward higher requirements for quality of service (QoS) issues such as asymmetric transmission delay. The paper mainly studies the energy distribution problem on the migration data link from the terminal device to the edge node in the mobile edge network. Multiple data service packages are set up at each hop on the migration data link, and these data service packages compete with each other, and ultimately only one terminal provides and stores energy for this hop. The migration strategy of the data service package is affected by the edge node, and the edge node changes the migration strategy according to the migration strategy of the data service package. The paper is based on the formation of nodes between the data service packages of different nodes on the 5G network data link to jointly control the migration strategy, coordinate the migration strategy formulated, and better coordinate the migration strategy. In this competitive game model, the optimal migration strategy of nodes is found out according to the terminal equipment access requirements. Then according to the node stability rules, the composition of nodes when the nodes are stable is obtained, the migration strategy of stable nodes and the migration and spectrum strategies of operators are obtained, and the migration strategy of joint control provides energy for edge nodes.

Objective: Customer journey mapping and design thinking were identified as useful tools for identifying deeper insights into the research data service needs of researchers on our campus with their direct input. In this article we discuss ways to improve the process in order to identify data needs earlier in the project life and at a more granular level. Methods: Customer journey mapping and design thinking were employed to get direct input from researchers about their research processes and data management needs. Responses from mapping templates and follow-up interviews were then used to identify themes to be explored using design thinking. Finally, a toolkit was created in Open Science Framework to guide other libraries who wish to employ these techniques Results: Outcomes from the customer journey mapping and design thinking sessions identified needs in the areas of data storage, organization and sharing. We also identified project-management lessons learned. The first lesson was to ensure the researchers who participate adequately represent the range of data needs on campus. Another was that customer journey mapping would be more effective if the responses were collected in real time and researchers were allowed more flexibility in the mapping process. Conclusions: Modifications to the customer journey mapping and design thinking techniques will provide real-time responses and deeper insights into the research data service needs of researchers on our campus. Our pilot identified some important gaps but we felt that more subtle and useful outcomes were possible by making changes to our process.

With the fast development of Sensor Network, Internet of Things, mobile devices, and pervasive computing, enormous amounts of sensor devices are deployed in physical world. Data streams produced by these sensor devices, deployed broadly, can be used to create various value-added applications. Facing continuous, real-time, high-frequency, low-valued data streams, how to flexibly and efficiently cooperate them for creating valuable application is very crucial. In this study, we propose a service-oriented manner to realize flexible streams integration. It considers data stream produced by one sensor data as a stream data service and utilizes composing multiple services to realize the cooperation among sensor devices. Firstly, we propose a stream data service model based on Event-Condition-Action rules, which can encapsulate steam data as services and continuously and timely process stream data into value-added events. Then, we propose a declarative method which can dynamically compose stream data services. Based on two kinds of declarative rules, that is, sink-rules and connect-rules, multiple data streams can be dynamically integrated through flexible service composition. To ensure the performance of service composition, we also employ a sensor partition strategy and process multiple service compositions in parallel. Through comprehensive evaluations by experiments, our service composition method shows both good efficiency and effectiveness.
