We examine the progress of the evolutionary research on innovation, the firm, and the dynamics of industries in the last four decades. The paper acknowledges that the themes related to knowledge and technological regimes, the evolutionary processes leading to innovation, and the long-term dynamics of technologies have generated, and still remain, relevant research trajectories. The same can be said for the research trajectories on organizational and dynamic capabilities, evolutionary strategies, vertical integration, diversification, niche construction, and authority and power in organizations. Important progress has also been made in understanding the evolutionary trajectories of industries, the link between industry architecture and industry dynamics, the types of knowledge of entrants, the role of focal and vertical spinouts, the relevance of institutions and sectoral innovation systems in industry dynamics, and the catch-up process by firms from latecomer countries. We argue that future developments in the evolutionary camp should continue to be characterized by eclecticism and multidisciplinarity, as well as by the integration of different methodologies from cases to stylized facts, quantitative analyses, appreciative theorizing, and formal modelling. We conclude with an analysis of the main methodologies used by evolutionary scholars and a discussion of the road ahead.

Abstract Academia and industry share a complex, multifaceted, and symbiotic relationship. Analysing the knowledge flow between them, understanding which directions have the biggest potential, and discovering the best strategies to harmonise their efforts is a critical task for several stakeholders. Research publications and patents are an ideal medium to analyze this space, but current datasets of scholarly data cannot be used for such a purpose since they lack a high-quality characterization of the relevant research topics and industrial sectors. In this paper, we introduce the Academia/Industry DynAmics (AIDA) Knowledge Graph, which describes 21M publications and 8M patents according to the research topics drawn from the Computer Science Ontology. 5.1M publications and 5.6M patents are further characterized according to the type of the author’s affiliations and 66 industrial sectors from the proposed Industrial Sectors Ontology (INDUSO). AIDA was generated by an automatic pipeline that integrates data from Microsoft Academic Graph, Dimensions, DBpedia, the Computer Science Ontology, and the Global Research Identifier Database. It is publicly available under CC BY 4.0 and can be downloaded as a dump or queried via a triplestore. We evaluated the different parts of the generation pipeline on a manually crafted gold standard yielding competitive results.

Subject. This article deals with the problems of development of promising sectors of the region's economy. Objectives. The article aims to assess the scenarios of regional industry changes considering a case study of the automotive industry. Methods. For the study, we used the bootstrap and wavelet transform techniques. Results. The article describes the inertial, pessimistic (5% percentile) and optimistic (95% percentile) scenarios for the development of the automotive industry and shows the range of possible deviations of industry dynamics in the case of the influence of external and internal factors. Conclusions. The proposed methodology and tools make it possible to fine-tune the forecast of industry dynamics, take into account its possible deviations from a predetermined path during the year, and put management decisions into proactive impact effect.

Industry dynamics are about stability and change on the field level of analysis. This chapter uses the lens of path dependence to study the emergent field of renewable energy. On this level of analysis, path dependence theory has to address not only technological but also organizational and institutional dynamics that intricately interact. More specifically, by means of such a multi-dimensional lens, this chapter will look at the increasing generation of electric energy through wind power to illustrate different industry dynamics in four countries. The United Kingdom and Japan will illustrate the persistence of an established path in generating electric energy through fossil fuels and nuclear, while the German and, more tenuously, Chinese cases serve as examples for path-breaking change and the conditions making the emergence of renewables, and in particular wind energy, possible.

The relevance of the sociological problems of linguistic studies intensified in the second half of the 20th century, which was caused by social reasons, including the opportunity to use the process of mass learning of foreign languages to spread the strengthening of the policies of individual states. The author has specified the concept of “culture-oriented linguistics” for sociological consideration, since it is understood differently in different sources, and prospects of experimental studying. Within the framework of this study, an emphasis is placed on studying the influence of linguistic and cultural characteristics of communication space, including multilingualism, for the modern specialists. The priority is not just the knowledge of the language, but the development and formation of a multicultural personality. The topic of multiculturalism occupies a special place in the process of acquiring educational competencies.
