To deepen understanding the evolutionary process of lucanid–yeast association, the lateral transmission process of yeast symbionts among stag beetle genera Platycerus and Prismognathus around the border between Japan and South Korea was estimated based on molecular analyses and species distribution modelings. Phylogenetic analyses were based on yeast ITS and IGS sequences and beetle COI sequences using Prismognathus dauricus from the Tsushima Islands and Pr. angularis from Kyushu, Japan, as well as other sequence data from our previous studies. The range overlap based on the species distribution model (SDM) and differentiation in ecological space were analyzed. Based on the IGS sequences, Clade II yeast symbionts were shared by Platycerus hongwonpyoi and Pr. dauricus in South Korea and the Tsushima Islands, and Platycerus viridicuprus in Japan. Clade III yeasts were shared by Pr. dauricus from the Tsushima Islands and Pr. angularis in Japan. During the Last Interglacial period when the land bridge between Japan and the Korean Peninsula existed, range overlap was predicted to occur between Pl. viridicuprus and Pr. dauricus in Kyushu and between Pr. dauricus and Pr. angularis in Kyushu and the Tsushima Islands. The ecological space of Pl. hongwonpyoi was differentiated from that of Pl. viridicuprus and Pr. angularis. We demonstrated the paleogeographical lateral transmission process of Scheffersomyces yeast symbionts among lucanid genera and species: putative transmission of yeasts from Pr. dauricus to Pl. viridicuprus in Kyushu and from Pr. angularis to Pr. dauricus in Kyushu or the Tsushima Islands. We also found that the yeast symbionts are likely being replaced in Pr. dauricus on the Tsushima Islands. We present novel estimates of the lateral transmission process of microbial symbionts based on phylogenetic, SDM and environmental analyses among lucanid beetles.

The main function of skeletal muscles is to generate force. The force developed by myofiber contraction is transmitted to the tendon. There are two pathways of force transmission from myofibers to tendons: longitudinal transmission that depends on tension elicited via the myotendinous junction and lateral transmission that depends on shear elicited via the interface between the myofiber surface and surrounding connective tissue. Experiments using animal muscle and mathematical models indicated that lateral transmission is the dominant pathway in muscle force transmission. Studies using rat muscle showed that the efficiency of lateral force transmission declines with age. Here, the lateral transmission of force was measured using the extensor digitorum longus muscle from young and old mice. Dependence on longitudinal transmission increased in the old muscle, and there was a trend for lower efficiency of lateral force transmission in the old muscle compared to the young muscle. There was a noticeable increase in the connective tissue volume in the old muscle; however, there was no significant change in the expression of dystrophin, a critical molecule for the link between the myofiber cytoskeleton and extracellular matrix. This study demonstrates the measurement of lateral force transmission in mouse muscles and that alteration in force transmission property may underlie age-related muscle weakness.

3D strain or strain rate tensor mapping comprehensively captures regional muscle deformation. While compressive strain along the muscle fiber is a potential measure of the force generated, radial strains in the fiber cross-section may provide information on the material properties of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, shear strain may potentially inform on the shearing of the extracellular matrix; the latter has been hypothesized as the mechanism of lateral transmission of force. Here, we implement a novel fast MR method for velocity mapping to acquire multi-slice images at different % maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) for 3D strain mapping to explore deformation in the plantar-flexors under isometric contraction in a cohort of young and senior subjects. 3D strain rate and strain tensors were computed and eigenvalues and two invariants (maximum shear and volumetric strain) were extracted. Strain and strain rate indices (contractile and in-plane strain/strain rate, shear strain/strain rate) changed significantly with %MVC (30 and 60% MVC) and contractile and shear strain with age in the medial gastrocnemius. In the soleus, significant differences with age in contractile and shear strain were seen. Univariate regression revealed weak but significant correlation of in-plane and shear strain and shear strain rate indices to %MVC and correlation of contractile and shear strain indices to force. The ability to map strain tensor components provides unique insights into muscle physiology: with contractile strain providing an index of the force generated by the muscle fibers while the shear strain could potentially be a marker of lateral transmission of force.

Sex in Dictyostelia involves a remarkable form of cannibalism in which zygotes attract large numbers of surrounding amoebae and then ingest them. Before they are consumed, the attracted amoebae help the zygote by synthesising an outer wall around the aggregate that traps them inside and helps to protect the mature developed zygotic structure, the macrocyst. Competition between cells vying to contribute genetically to zygotes and through to the next generation seems likely to have promoted the evolution of several unusual features of dictyostelid sex: individual species often have more than two mating types, increasing haploid cells’ chances of matching with a compatible partner, and fusion of many gametes to form transient syncytia allows cytoplasmic mixing and lateral transmission of mitochondrial genomes. This review will summarise recent advances in our understanding of mating-type determination, gamete fusion, and inheritance in Dictyostelium, and highlight the key gaps in our understanding of this fascinating set of phenomena.

Design a kind of reducer, the first stage transmission is a cylindrical cam, the secondary stage transmission is a gear transmission. Multistage transmission of the reducer has carried on the design calculation and checking. On the basis of the lateral cylindrical cam lateral transmission mathematical model, conducted the spiral curve analysis and calculation with numerical analysis software MATLAB. Import the spiral curve data into SOLIDWORKS to complete the 3D modeling of cylindrical cam. According to the structural design of cylindrical cam, complete reducer machine design and virtual assembly of gearless reducer. The stress analysis was carried out on the cam disk with the ANSYS Mechanical Analysis Module of SOLIDWORKS, designed to meet the working conditions. Conducted physical development based on CAD and CAE. The result showed that the design was fast and effective, significantly shorten the production cycle.

Propose cylindrical cam lateral transmission mechanism for the first time, define the agency's three specific types. Design gearless reducer type A, B and C for construction elevator by the application of the agency to reducer industry. Conduct physical prototype processing manufacture based on cylindrical cam lateral transmission theory and virtual prototype design of gearless reducer. By contrast processing and experimental tests to determine that the theory of cylindrical cam lateral transmission mechanism is feasible. Gearless reducer have the advantage of high efficiency and energy saving, low cost, small volume, light weight, saving raw materials resources.
