How motivated a person is to pursue a goal may depend on many different properties of the goal, such as how specific it is, how important it is to the person, and how actionable it is. Rigorously measuring all of the relevant goal characteristics is still very difficult. Existing measures are scattered across multiple research fields. Some goal characteristics are not yet covered, while others have been measured under ambiguous terminology. Other conceptually related characteristics have yet to be adapted to goals. Last but not least, the validity of most measures of goal characteristics has yet to be assessed. The aim of this study is to: a) integrate, refine, and extend previous measures into a more comprehensive battery of self-report measures, the Goal Characteristics Questionnaire (GCQ; https://osf.io/3gxk5/?view_only=1ff0e62127c64b82862a0fe7d73c4faf), and b) investigate its evidence of validity. In two empirical studies, this paper provides evidence for the validity of the measures regarding their internal structure, measurement invariance, and convergence and divergence with other relevant goal-related measures, such as the motivation, affect, and the dimensions of Personal Project Analysis. The results show that our goal characteristic dimensions have incremental validity for explaining important outcomes, such as goal commitment and well-being. It concludes with practical recommendations for using the GCQ in research on goal-setting and goal-pursuit, and a discussion about directions for future studies

Intelligence is innate, but grit is something everyone can develop. Grit not only enables students to stick to their goals, but also to persevere even when they fail. Career adaptability is an important concept in vocational education of college students, which is a person engaged in some work, must have a certain physical and psychological quality. Base on the self-regulation theory, this study investigated the relationship between grit and career adaptability of Chinese college student based on the self-regulatory processes. We surveyed 839 Chinese college students and tested a self-regulation model. As expected, grit was related to greater career adaptability via greater career exploration and decision self-efficacy, positive affect, and goal commitment. These findings not only broaden the theoretical framework for the effect of grit on career adaptability, but also open up a new horizon for improving college students’ career adaptability in practice.

This study aimed to examine whether budget goal commitment, psychological capital, and management accounting system were able to play a role in mediating the relation between budget congruence and managerial performance in public services universities in Indonesia. This study used a quantitative survey approach; the sample of the study consisted of 82 leaders from State Islamic Universities in the province of East Java, Indonesia. The data were analyzed by using a causal mediation analysis procedure. The result found that psychological capital and management accounting systems were able to mediate the budget congruence-managerial performance relation. Meanwhile, budget goal commitment in the context of public sector budgeting has not succeeded in proving its role as a mediating variable. Further analysis showed that contingency theory is still relevant to be used in business and public budgeting in relation to different behavioural conditions. In addition, this research has implications for evaluating the managerial performance of leaders in public services universities in Indonesia to pay attention on managerial involvement at lower levels in achieving organizational goals.

The purpose of this study was to analyse the mediating role of concerted goal commitment in improving a lecturer’s research performance. In this study, the research sample data used amounted to 365. The research method used simple random sampling. The instruments used were a questionnaire and structural equation modelling with Lisrel 8.80 as statistical analysis. Based on the results of this study, it is proven that leadership, academic culture, and academic policies can improve a lecturer’s research performance mediated by concerted goal commitment. The strength of the lecturer’s intention in commitment to shared goals is characterised by value creation, namely increasing the perception of goals, trust in the institution and the perception of the future so that it can strengthen the organisation or institution. This research can be extended to a state university to strengthen the hypothesis and the structural model that is built. Keywords: academic culture, concerted goal commitment,  leadership, lecturers, policy academic, and research performance

Although learners’ success in learning has generally been attributed to cognitive factors, non-cognitive issues in education should be taken into consideration in the process of learning which affects learners’ achievement. One of these issues, which become popular among researchers in the previous decade is grit, that is, posited as passion and perseverance thanks to its enduring quality and the other is self-efficacy. Another factor is goal commitment that talks about the way to reach a goal or insistent determinations to achieve a goal. The proposed review attempts to focus on these three factors in regulating students’ learning achievement. Accordingly, some educational suggestions are offered for teachers, students, and syllabus designers.

This present study’s consisted of Ghanaian junior high school adolescents, precisely JHS1 and JHS 2. The study duration spanned from January 2019 to October 2020. During the study period, two assessments were done. In the first assessment, primary six students consisting of 425 adolescents, were assessed from 35 schools. During the year 2019, students in primary six who partook in the first assessment were engaged when they had been promoted to Junior high school. They included students who had become part of the classroom experiment. Eventually, this approach resulted in a sample size of 632 students for both JHS 1 and JHS 2. The data collection used structured questionnaires, and the snowballing approach was used for sampling and sample recruitment. The analytical method used for data analysis is structural equation modeling (SEM). This method is reliable for understanding the unique relationship between the dependent and independent variables to reveal their direct and indirect effects. This present study found that a growth mindset and grit are proportionally related to students’ academic achievement. However, grit should be measured by the perseverance of effort, not consistency of interest and conscientiousness, to positively affect academic achievement. Both goal commitment and growth mindset are related to understanding how grit contributes positively to academic success. In essence, the findings imply that students need to have the perseverance to trigger their growth mindset and goal commitment to affect their academic pursuits positively. KEYWORDS: Growth mindset; Grit; Academic achievement; Goal commitment
