The sliding bearing is an important component in machines. The characteristics of the oil film fluid of the sliding bearing is the key factor affecting lubrication, which will affect the wear and reliability of the sliding bearing. Herein, the lubricating oil of the sliding bearing is studied, the oil film flow model considering the cavitation effect is established, the pressure and temperature distribution of the oil film under different rotational speeds is explored, and its influence on oil film pressure and temperature are analyzed. Furthermore, wear tests are carried out to measure the wear amount of the bearing bush under different rotational speeds, and the influence of the fluid characteristics of the lubricating oil film on bearing wear is explored. The simulation and experimental study in this paper can provide a reference for the design of sliding bearings.

Peculiarities of rolling bearings operation are analyzed. Methods of diagnostics of general purpose sliding bearings and rolling equipment are considered. Direct control of the maximum allowable wear of plain bearings during operation is proposed. It is advisable to provide remote information and consulting services to technical services of metallurgical enterprises for maintenance, repair and operation of crankshaft bearings. Bearings of electric machines of drives of rolls of rolling mills work in extremely difficult conditions with considerable overloads in the environment of the increased vibration. This leads to premature wear of the liner and its fatigue failure. The technical condition of bearings of electric machines of drives of rolls of rolling mills for the purpose of an exception of an emergency stop of production is carried out by indirect control of temperature and vibration. However, these controls do not guarantee an avoidance of an emergency. All problems with working plain bearings can be grouped into three groups: insufficient bearing capacity of the lubricating layer, unregulated clearance between the shaft and the liner, unsatisfactory technical condition of the bearing surfaces. Insufficient bearing capacity of the lubricating layer is more often associated with loss of lubricant properties due to improper maintenance of the lubrication system. The discrepancy between the size of the gap between the shaft and the liner to the normalized value arises from design, technological and operational reasons. Background: Sliding bearing is a kind of bearing that works under sliding friction, which has the characteristics of stable operation, safety and reliability and noiseless. With the technological progress of the machinery industry, modern machinery and equipment is developing in the direction of high speed and heavy load, its power is getting higher and higher, and the working environment is getting worse, so plain bearings are more and more widely used. Objective: In order to improve the lubricating performance of sliding bearings, the influencing factors of lubricating performance of sliding bearings are summarized and commented. Methods: The research progress and achievements at home and abroad are summarized from three aspects: influencing factors of lubrication performance of radial sliding bearings, thrust sliding bearings and influencing factors of lubricating oil on lubrication performance of sliding bearings, which provides reference for the future development of sliding bearings. Results: The study discusses the experimental method, simulation process and experimental results of the factors affecting the lubrication performance of sliding bearing. Conclusion: The texture, deformation, surface morphology of oil cavity, eccentric load and flow state of sliding bearings all affect the lubricating performance of sliding bearings, and lubricating oil also affects the lubricating performance of sliding bearings.

Bearings are designed to support the loads normally applied to the shaft, while allowing relative movement between two machine elements. Journal or sliding bearings are perhaps the most well-known sorts of hydrodynamic bearings. The journal bearings contain no rolling elements and these bearings’ design and construction are simple, but their operation and theory are complex. Due to this and other advantages, journal bearings are much preferred in engineering applications. Simultaneously, the associated research and development have resulted in reasonable progress and therefore, a thorough review of these is earnestly felt. The static and dynamic characteristics of hydrodynamic journal bearings mainly depend on the lubricant viscosity and other factors such as load, speed, friction, and eccentricity. The review analysis focused on nanofluid lubricated hydrodynamic journal bearings are one of the rare topics of interest among tribologists. The use of a nanofluid as a lubricant is very important as it significantly improves the performance characteristics of the investigated bearing. The aggregation of nanoparticles in lubricants available commercially can cause a sharp increase in pressure drop and significantly improve the lubricant viscosity, which leads to an increase in load-carrying capacity. The tribological properties of various lubricants/base oils can be augmented by nanoparticles containing the lubricant. Studies have shown that compared to other conventional engine oils the load-carrying capacity is increased with nanoparticles containing the lubricant.

Abstract The problem of friction reduction and wear resistance of sliding bearings is one of the key factors in determining the overall performance of internal combustion engines. This paper investigated and summarized the theoretical and simulation models of multi-body dynamics of crankshaft system, tribology of sliding bearings, and the wear calculation methods of the shaft-bearing friction pairs. Existing studies show that the dynamics model, hybrid lubrication model, and the friction and wear models request to be upgraded by comprehensively considering the material, structure, manufacturing process, working conditions, and etc. Based on the research status and existing problems of the above analyses, this paper summarizes the simulation models applicable to the field of dynamics and tribology of sliding bearings and presents the prospects for optimization of wear calculation methods for sliding bearings.

Purpose This study aims to improve the tribological performance of Babbitt alloy under oil lubricant condition. Thus, the surface was treated into oleophobic state by modifying with low surface energy fluorosilane (1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane). It is believed that the oleophobic surface offered excellent wear resistance of Babbitt-based tribo-pairs. Design/methodology/approach By modifying the Babbitt alloy with low surface energy fluorosilane and measuring the oil contact angle, the wetting behavior was evaluated. Using Pin on Disk tribometer, the tribological properties of bare Babbitt and modified Babbitt were quantified. The samples after the friction test were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the anti-wear performance was evaluated under dry and oil lubrication conditions. Findings Results showed that oil contact angle of modified Babbitt was109° which was tripled compared to that of prime surface, which indicates the oleophobic behavior was greatly improved. Under dry conditions, the friction coefficient of the modified surface with different load conditions is slightly lower than that of the bare surface, while the friction coefficient of the modified surface under lubrication conditions is significantly decreased compared to that of the bare surface. Interestingly, under low load and high load, the wear rate of the modified Babbitt alloy surface is only 1/4 and 1/3 of that of the bare surface, respectively. Originality/value The work proposed an effective method to improve the Babbitt tribological performances and will lighten future ideas for the Babbitt alloy bearing with high wear resistance, which is beneficial to improve the service life of sliding bearings and has huge promotion and application value in the manufacture of sliding bearings.
