Currently, telecommunications systems have become more widespread and there is still a discrepancy between whether or not non-ionizing radiation produces health problems in living beings at cellular level. From an experimental point of view, it is interesting to raise the correlation of high levels of electromagnetic pollution with health problems in urban populations which would make it possible to clearly determine the effects of this type of radiation on human health and the environment. By means of remote sensing, a geographic information system (GIS) has been developed for the analysis of electromagnetic pollution levels generated by emissions from non-ionizing radiation (NIR) sources in a city. A method for measuring electromagnetic pollution was applied, which allows the generation of a table of attributes of the GIS that is the input to generate by inverse distance weighting (IDW), the layer of electromagnetic pollution. The method, as a case study, was applied in the city of Manizales, located in Colombia, obtaining as a result a layer that allows evidence that the highest levels of electromagnetic pollution are concentrated in the most central area of the city. In this way, the effects of NIR on public health can be analyzed by means of correlations.

Abstract An indispensable element in addressing the current problem of non-ionizing electromagnetic pollution in the environment is a review of the levels of exposure to the electric and magnetic fields produced by the lines of electric power transmission and distribution systems. In order to establish the exposure levels, it is necessary to determine the model of the lines. Considering that a computational simulation is a helpful tool for power system analysis, this article presents a computational tool developed in Matlab App Designer for the model-in-sequence components of the parameters that make up a transmission line. This tool allows the user to work in a friendly and parameterizable environment according to the performed tests. In order to verify the tool’s performance, two case studies are implemented. The first one is for a transposed transmission line and the second one for a non-transposed transmission line. The results obtained are compared with commercial software, acquiring a maximum error of 0.16402 %.

Tremendous development in electronic devices and their indiscriminate use has created a severe problem of electromagnetic pollution. Different types of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials and structures are used to protect electronic devices from the harmful effect of electromagnetic pollution. A present study was conducted to compare the effect of dielectric and magnetic nanofillers on electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of carbon fiber reinforced composite structures (CFRC). Composites structures were developed using different dielectric and magnetic nanofillers. Effect of nanofillers on microwave absorption properties and reduction in electromagnetic pollution was investigated. Relationship between electrical conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness in L, S, C, and X-frequency range was also studied. Among the dielectric nanofillers, silicon carbide showed excellent EMI SE in X-frequency range, while among magnetic nanofillers, zinc oxide showed excellent EMI shielding characteristics in a broad frequency range of 100 MHz to 13.6 GHz. Among magnetic nanofillers, CFRC with zinc oxide nanofillers showed the lowest skin depth value of 3.32 × 10−4 mm and among dielectric nanofiller, CFRC with silicon carbide nanofillers gave the lowest skin depth value of 6.49 × 10−4 mm, implying their excellent potential in EMI shielding applications.

Abstract Nowadays, flywire is used exclusively in aeronautical applications. A plane’s complete control is dependent on electronic technology, yet it suffers from high-intensity radiated fields. An electromagnetic shield may be necessary to protect this equipment from external electromagnetic pollution. The current project attempts to create a protective barrier around the operating equipment to enhance its efficiency. AL6061 composite material was used to create a metal matrix mesh shield. It is reinforced with fly ash in various volume fractions, and the electrical characteristics and Shielding Effectiveness are determined (SE). The maximum SE is 45.36dB obtained, which can be effectively used as a shield for aerospace and other applications.

Abstract In this paper the cooperative electromagnetic pollution index (EMPI) from many RF sources is evaluated in terms of three components which are strength of magnetic and electric field expressed in A/m and V/m, respectively, and irradiated power in W/m2. They are generated by a portable laptop computer (LC) with a liquid crystal monitor and other three sources in front area of it. The LC radiation interference with radiation from mobile phone, Wi-Fi and microwave oven in the radio frequency range from 300 Hz up to 3GHz has been measured. The experiment involves testing 45 different points in the keyboard area and 45 points in the in front area of the PC in its operating state. After that a comparison was made between the calculated values for multiple sources frame work and the measured experimental values. Then these EMPI values have been compared with the internationally recommended SAR values.

Abstract At first time a comprehensive investigation of properties of different types of filters protecting from electromagnetic (EM) radiation of to-date electronic devices for personal using – notebooks or laptops, mobile phones, WiFi devices, microwave ovens etc. has been performed for all components of EM pollution including electric and magnetic field strength and radiation power. The shielding filters were made by using different technologies including nanoparticles of transition metals implanted into glass, metal-plastic foils, glasses with different kinds of ITO coating. Values of the EM pollution reduction factors for different shielding filters types have been obtained that allow make recommendations for their practical application.
