The ChintalaVenkataramana Temple in Tadapatri, Andhra Pradesh, holds a significant role in the history of VijayanagaraArt.The temple built in the last quarter of the fifteenth century is a treasure house of exquisite craftsmanship. The magnificence of the Vijayanagara dynasty is not merely due to the magnitude of the temples but also for its artistic and decorative richness. ChintalaVenkataramana Temple and BuggaRamalingeswara temples are the finest examples displaying the richness of the Vijayanagara kings at Tadipatri. The ChintalaVenkataramana Temple is unique as it differs from the norm when compared to other temples of the Vijayanagara dynasty in few aspects. This temple, unlike the others are not very big in size and neither the pillars in the mandapas are so martial and huge. The notable feature of the temple is the stone chariot. The outer walls of the ardhamandapa and the shrine contains exquisite reliefs of narratives from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The sculptures, most of them narratives offer a visual treat of the episodes from the epic, the Bhagavataand from other mythological events making the temple unique and special. The aim of this paper is to discuss the narrative sculptures which are unique. The iconographical panels which refers to the epics and scenes from mythology will be discussed along with the artistic content

By a suitable representation in the Euclidean plane, each circulant graph $G$, i.e. a graph with a circulant adjacency matrix ${\mathcal A}(G)$, reveals its rotational symmetry and, as the drawing's most notable feature, a central hole, the so-called \emph{geometric kernel} of $G$. Every integral circulant graph $G$ on $n$ vertices, i.e. satisfying the additional property that all of the eigenvalues of ${\mathcal A}(G)$ are integral, is isomorphic to some graph $\mathrm{ICG}(n,\mathcal{D})$ having vertex set $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$ and edge set $\{\{a,b\}:\, a,b\in\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z} ,\, \gcd(a-b,n)\in \mathcal{D}\}$ for a uniquely determined set $\mathcal{D}$ of positive divisors of $n$. A lot of recent research has revolved around the interrelation between graph-theoretical, algebraic and arithmetic properties of such graphs. In this article we examine arithmetic implications imposed on $n$ by a geometric feature, namely the size of the geometric kernel of $\mathrm{ICG}(n,\mathcal{D})$.

A notable feature of the use of choral voices in cinema is the attenuation of language; singers hum, vocalise, and sing in invented or dead languages. Such an approach applies across genres and sees choruses used in two related ways: as evocations of human and inhuman collectives, and as celebrants of spectacle and narrative resolution. I argue that this approach is dictated by the particular implication of human agency that the voice, as opposed to the musical instrument, promotes. I sketch the ontological properties of choral voices in cinema and analyse Lady in the Lake (Robert Montgomery, 1947). As well as being a singular experiment in first-person camera, the film is significant for its a cappella score, the only one of its kind in classical cinema, motivated, I argue, by the film’s distinct narrative strategy.

A simple arylamine-catalyzed Mannich-cyclization cascade reaction was developed for facile synthesis of substituted 2H-benzo[h]chromenes. The notable feature of the process included the efficient generation of ortho-quinone methides (o-QMs) catalyzed by a simple aniline. The mild reaction conditions allowed for a broad spectrum of 1- and 2-naphthols and trans-cinnamaldehydes to engage in the cascade sequence with high efficiency.

Abstract The Eighth Maqāma by Yaʿacov ben Elʿazar (Toledo, ca. 1200) tells the story of ʿAkhbor, a bearded beggar-preacher who is revealed to be rich and lecherous. His sexual preference for a black maid leads his four white/Arab maids to murder him viciously, but not before taking revenge on his beard. In fact, the most notable feature of the false preacher is his gargantuan beard, which occupies a full one-third of the maqāma, and other beards are also excessively described. Following Robert Bartlett, I will relate to the beard as “social text” and explore its abundant symbolical meanings within the surrounding cultures of Islam and Judaism, as well as against the backdrop of Iberian contemporary society. Further, in order to better understand Ben Elʿazar’s manipulation of both the beard and the genre, as well as his emphasis on sexual, anal and scatological humor, I will have recourse to Mikhail Bakhtin’s theoretical discussions of “the grotesque body,” “the carnivalesque,” and to his generic model of the Mennipea.

В статье анализируются стихи в модусе связи лингвистики и поэзии. Современную поэзию отличают не только новые темы и видение мира, но и во многом иной поэтический язык. Анализируются разные взгляды ученых на поэтический язык. Заметной особенностью современных поэтических текстов является употребление лингвистических терминов, названий частей речи, синтаксических конструкций и под. в качестве полноправных художественных элементов стихотворения. На материале стихов М. Цветаевой, А. Вознесенского, Б. Ахмадулиной, Д. Бураго и др. доказывается, что лингвистические термины могут выражать филологическое мышление поэта, становясь живой частью его стихотворений, и способны специфически отражать картину мира, мировоззрение и человеческие эмоции. Приводится подробный филологический анализ стихотворения А. Вознесенского «Плач по двум нерожденным поэмам». The article analyzes poems in the mode of communication between linguistics and poetry. Modern poetry is distinguished not only by new themes and visions of the world, but also by a largely different poetic language. The paper also analyzes different views of scientists on the poetic language. A notable feature of modern poetic texts is the use of linguistic terms, names of parts of speech, syntactic constructions as full artistic elements of the poem. Basing on the material of poems by M. Tsvetaeva, A. Voznesensky, B. Akhmadulina, D. Burago, etc. it is proved that linguistic terms can express the poet’s philological thinking, becoming a living part of his poems, and are able to specifically reflect the picture of the world, worldview and human emotions. Moreover, the article provides a detailed philological analysis of A. Voznesensky’s poem “Lament for Two Unborn Poems”.

Now better known as a hunting painter, the Antwerp animal specialist Joannes Fyt (1611–1661) also produced several depictions of Aesopic fables. A notable feature of Fyt’s fables is their attentiveness to the appearances and behaviors of animals and how they inhabit their environment. Focusing on two paintings by Fyt featuring poultry birds, this essay uses period fable books, a key discussion of fable by Erasmus, and zoopoetic theory to explore how these works address both the allegorical realm of fable and a tangible living world that was increasingly coming under investigation from natural history and related modes of inquiry.

Abstract We study a class of decoherence process which admits a 3 dimensional holographic bulk. Starting from a thermo-field double dual to a wormhole, we prepare another thermo-field double which plays the role of environment. By allowing the energy flow between the original and environment thermo-field double, the entanglement of the original thermo-field double eventually decoheres. We model this decoherence by four-boundary wormhole geometries, and study the time-evolution of the moduli parameters to see the change of the entanglement pattern among subsystems. A notable feature of this holographic decoherence processes is that at the end point of the processes, the correlations of the original thermo-field double are lost completely both classically and also quantum mechanically. We also discuss distinguishability between thermo-field double state and thermo mixed double state, which contains only classical correlations, and construct a code subspace toy model for that.

AbstractThis article examines the iconographic programme of the Last Judgement scene depicted in Christ III. A notable feature of the poem’s detailed visual programme is the way in which it provides the audience with a single, panoramic vision that encompasses the divergent perspectives of the blessed and the damned. It is on account of this dual perspective that the poem, through its precise use of language and imagery, presents the audience with a bifocal vision of Christ as King of Kings and Judge of the World, in keeping with the words of Revelation 19:16. A detailed analysis of the poem’s imagery, however, suggests that its portrait of Christ as Judge is not only informed by scripture and exegetical sources, but is also indebted to contemporary visual imagery, particularly the depiction of Christ as Majestas Domini, or Christ in Majesty. As a result, and by approaching the poem’s imagery from an iconological perspective, it is argued that the poet of Christ III had a detailed knowledge of contemporary Christological motifs. Furthermore, a careful analysis of the language used to describe the Judgement scene, and particularly the depiction of Christ as Judge, suggests that the poet intentionally seeks to evoke a range of specific visual images in the mind of his audience in order to amplify the poem’s instructive and penitential aims.

Abstract The present paper develops a unified correspondence treatment of the Sahlqvist theory for possibility semantics, extending the results in the work by Yamamoto (2016, Journal of Logic and Computation, 27, 2411–2430) from Sahlqvist formulas to the strictly larger class of inductive formulas and from the full possibility frames to filter-descriptive possibility frames. Specifically, we define the possibility semantics version of the algorithm Ackermann lemma based algorithm (ALBA) and an adapted interpretation of the expanded modal language used in the algorithm. One notable feature of the adaptation of ALBA to possibility frames setting is that the so-called nominal variables, which are interpreted as complete join-irreducibles in the standard setting, are interpreted as regular open closures of ‘singletons’ in the present setting, which is a novelty of the present paper. We prove the soundness of the algorithm with respect to both (the dual algebras of) full possibility frames and (the dual algebras of) filter-descriptive possibility frames, use the algorithm to give an alternative proof to the one in the work by Holliday (2016, Possibility frames and forcing for modal logic. URL. http://escholarship.org/uc/item/9v11r0dq) that the inductive formulas are constructively canonical and show that the algorithm succeeds on inductive formulas. We make some comparisons among different semantic settings in the design of the algorithms and fit possibility semantics into this broader picture.
