A recent natural disasters that gained extensive news coverage and public concern in Indonesia is the earthquake that occurred in Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara Province, in early August. Initially, local authorities stated that the earthquake on Lombok Island on 5 August 2018 was at an M 6.8 scale. However, the scale was later revised to M 7.0. This research used descriptive-qualitative case study method. Research result proved that the technological advances that have brought human civilisation to Industry 4.0 have a significant contribution to disaster mitigation. In the disaster that occurred in West Nusa Tenggara, researchers found that the government, disaster mitigation and recovery agencies, journalists, and the public used internet chat-based digital technology to conduct effective coordination. However, Industry 4.0 technology still has limitations in terms of disaster mitigation. Researchers suggest that the issues be addressed using industry 5.0, a technology based on the internet of things.

Vaporwave is an internet mediated musical genre which emerged as an ironical variant of chillwave on internet chat groups. Even though vaporwave started in the early 2000s, it was not until the 2010s when it started gaining momentum. It is defined by its slowing down samples of 1980s songs, excessive use of reverb and choppy nature. This article deals with the blueprint for creating a vaporwave track and concludes with three generated vaporwave tracks. The approach taken in this articles differs from traditional machine learning oriented approaches as vaporwave heavily relies on remixing rather than creating original content.

There has been a recent increase of interest in the phenomenon of power amongst linguists and also philosophers. The presented article attempts to consider power and ways in which it is exercised through language of computer-mediated communication (further CMC). This unique environment is determined by the specific conditions of an Internet chat room, such as anonymity and no audio-visual cues. In the theoretical part, Watts’s and Diamond’s investigations of power in various open and closed groups in oral communication are discussed and the notion of status is presented. The author divides the chat group corpus into individual sub-groups and tries to draw a graphical presentation, a sociogram, to show their complexity and distribution of power. However, the question remains how tight the sub-groups in CMC are or how interrelated they are with one another. In this respect, it is noteworthy to observe how a selected chat participant develops her status in various sub-groups and to analyze the means by which this possible status is achieved. The corpus was collected by the author herself. The main hypothesis is that the status of power changes quickly throughout chatting and it depends to a great extent on other cues such as address, non-verbal action displays, punctuation marks and so on. In other words, there are very few means by which to exercise power and hold it in this continuously changing and anonymous environment.

A simple signalling server, written in JavaScript and running in node.js run-time environment, was presented in the previous paper of the Authors [3]. In this paper, principles of building of WebRTC signalling client are presented, as well as exemplary communication between the client and the server, captured with the use of WireShark software tool during experimental WebRTC sessions. The paper includes also an example of application of Internet chat, that uses the simple signal-ling server [3]. The chat was built in two versions, which uses the same user interface and their signalling systems were build according to the same methodology, but differs in method of transmission of chat messages. The first version transmits user data (text messages of the chat) via signalling server, with the use of signalling channel. This version uses WebSocket interface for transmission of chat messages. In the case of the second version, user data are transmitted directly between web browsers, using WebRTC's channel dedicated for transmission of nonmedia data. This version transmits chat messages with the use of WebRTC's RTCDataChannel interface..

<p>Virtual classroom is one of the fastest growing educational technologies used by many industries and institutions. Today, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) cloud is become a most accepted replacement to different virtual classroom technologies such as internet chat, internet radio, web conferencing, traditional video conferencing and peer to peer VoIP calls. It provides greater flexibility, reliability and cost efficient telecommunication features and operates on comparatively lesser bandwidth. Involvement of new technology in virtual classroom makes it more reliable to teachers and students. Still it follows traditional methods to monitor students by invigilator whether it may be inside the classroom or home study. A secure framework for virtual classroom is developed to not only monitor student’s activities continuously but also the amount of time spent by each student and provide security against unsecure unauthorized login. An effective monitoring System based on Liveness Face Detection techniques is proposed to add more flexibility to conduct virtual classroom and also increases the level of securities of each student’s accounts.</p>

Abstract The use of search engines such as Google is an activity that produces a transformation of communication practices related to the use of digital devices (especially smartphones) and has a significant impact on Internet users’ linguistic practices. One of these practices is conversation-not Internet chat, but “ordinary” face-to-face dialogue. People often search the web during conversations. This practice transforms a simple conversation into a digitally assisted one. A digitally assisted conversation is a dynamic combination of speaking, typing and reading on the screen. In this paper, I present some consequences of this change, such as the way searching during conversations “forces” interlocutors to take a different look at their statements and why reaching for a smartphone and using a search engine can be perceived, regardless of the results displayed on the screen, as a significant rhetorical gesture of negation (usually considered rude). Proficiency in searching and using a smartphone with broadband Internet is considered socially attractive today, just as erudition and literacy once were. This is currently considered an extension of erudition.

Investigation of the social and psychological antecedents of the HIV epidemic has identified a syndemic of conditions associated with risk behavior and seroconversion. This study inquires into the resilient practices and developmental processes of gay and bisexual men at the nexus of syndemic conditions to understand the pathways that lead to health problems or well-being. Interviews with 40 men identified branching pathways from home environments into schools that either offer refuge or a regime of gender discipline and bullying. Some found escape routes from hostile environments in worlds of books, pop culture, or internet chat. In adolescence, one set of men identified the development of sexual relationships with older men as a lifeline that brought a measure of emotional growth. This study points to resilience pathways and social resources that could make a difference in the lives of those deemed to be “high risk.”

Abstract. Background: Crisis support services have historically been offered by phone-based suicide prevention hotlines, but are increasingly becoming available through alternative modalities, including Internet chat and text messaging. Aims: To better understand differences in the use of phone and chat/text services. Method: We conducted semistructured interviews with call responders at the Veterans Crisis Line who utilize multimodal methods to respond to veterans in crisis. Results: Responders indicated that veterans may access the chat/text service primarily for reasons that included a desire for anonymity and possible inability to use the phone. Responders were divided on whether callers and chatters presented with different issues or risk of suicide; however, they suggested that veterans frequently use chat/text to make their first contact with mental health services. Limitations: We spoke with call responders, not the veterans themselves. Additionally, as this is qualitative research, applicability to other settings may be limited. Conclusion: While new platforms offer promise, participants also indicated that chat services can supplement phone lines, but not replace them.
