Abstract: This article describes Religious Moderation Education in Islam, especially about the portrait and development of religious moderation education in madrasas. The crucial issues to be answered regarding moderation education in Islam in Madrasahs are (1) What is meant by religious moderation? (2) What are the characteristics of religious moderation in Islam? (3) and how is the portrait and development of religious moderation education in madrasas? To answer this problem, library research is carried out by exploring various literatures in the form of books, articles, journals, scientific opinions related to Islamic moderation to then be analyzed descriptively . The findings of this study include: Islamic moderation is understood as a balance between strong beliefs and tolerance in which there are Islamic values that are built on the basis of a straight and moderate mindset and not excessive. Madrasas are seen as one of the Islamic educational institutions that have succeeded in bringing moderate Islam in their educational praxis, therefore they deserve to be examples of religious moderation education for other educational institutions. To strengthen madrasas, they can develop mainstreaming of Islamic moderation, among others through: formulating a vision and mission oriented towards Islamic moderation, developing a comprehensive curriculum that incorporates Islamic moderation values, optimizing habituation and madrasa culture as a strategy for internalizing Islamic moderation character values, and developing programs strengthening Islamic moderation. Funds of Knowledge (FK), Community Cultural Wealth (CCW), and Bourdieu’s analysis of capital (BAC) have each been applied in powerful ways to address complex issues of urban education; however, the overlaps and tensions between them have been largely underexplored. When brought together, these three economic metaphors—funds, wealth, capital—surface divergences and tensions that foreground questions of educational praxis and social justice. We argue the quest for social justice requires an approach that both validates and substantively utilizes learners’ FK and CCW and critically grapples with the pervasive logic of capital that has been impressed in the fabric of our educational system.

This paper critically explores theoretical, conceptual, and methodological dimensions of three social-justice oriented educational approaches: Bourdieuian Analysis of Capital (BAC), Funds of Knowledge (FK), and Community Cultural Wealth (CCW). We surface convergences and divergences across these three frameworks, seeking to clarify them conceptually, draw out implications for educational praxis, illuminate importantly difficult tensions in-and-across them, and (re)imagine future directions for utilizing these frameworks to address intersecting structural inequalities in the pursuit of strengthened social-educational justice. We argue that putting BAC, FK, and CCW into mutual interrogation can deepen understanding of these inequalities and ways to approach them in education praxis.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the obstacles to the educational praxis of nurses in the Family Health Strategy of the Eastern Health District, Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil. Method: Qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study that used the Word Café technique for data production, with 26 nurses, between June and August 2018. The data were organized in the Atlas.ti8 software, and the analysis was categorical-thematic. Results: The units of analysis “Organizational Obstacles for Educational Praxis in the Family Health Strategy” and “Operational Obstacles for Educational Praxis in the Family Health Strategy” reveal difficulties, tensions, resistances and the impossibilities to adhere to emerging models of work organization, in general, and in particular, in educational work. Conclusion: What presents itself in reality as an obstacle is, at the same time, indicative of the possibility of overcoming and potentiality for co-creation of educational work as a strategy to rescue professional motivation, and an alternative on the agenda for the permanent qualification of workers and institutions.

This special issue is a collection of articles that emerged from a series of symposia on praxis in higher education, aimed at critically exploring challenges and possibilities for educational praxis, including its role in the contemporary university. The collection highlights the need for asking critical and uncomfortable questions about what is and what could be in higher education. It calls for more focused attention on the consequences of what we do as teachers and university communities, both intentionally and inadvertently, so that higher education can be more socially just and responsive to student and societal needs amidst contemporary challenges. In explicating the concept of ‘educational praxis’, the editorial introduces the metaphor of ‘walking on the edge’ to illustrate the concept’s ‘uncomfortable dimension’ in terms of academics’ responsibility to engage critically with challenging issues in endeavours to address educational concerns.

Framing some of its most central theoretical aspects can contribute to greater assertiveness and fruitfulness of educational actions. Therefore, this article aims to argue about the centrality of the anthropological concept of culture for the existence of Popular Education as an educational praxis, and to discuss limits and possibilities of its institutionalization. It starts from a deeper conceptual discussion of the anthropological concept of culture, especially from Paulo Freire's dialogue with other authors. Then, some possibilities and limitations arising from this centrality are discussed – the Popular Education Framework for Public Policies (2014) is discussed as a parameter for the issue. The article ends with the recognition of the enduring situation of movement in the educational paradigm of Popular Education as its greater expression of creative power. Keywords: Popular education. The text undertakes the problematics situated between modernity and tradition regarding the reception of H.A. Giroux’s works in Poland, in a view of furthering the study of pedagogy and educational praxis. First, the author outlines the beginnings of openness towards critical pedagogy. What is underscored here is the 1980s’ main inspiration drawn from the resistance paradigm. Then, the author proceeds to the current state of Giroux’s reception in Poland. He illustrates differences among particular examples and levels of the said reception of Giroux’s pedagogy and of the scholar’s theoretical background. The emphasized disputes pertain especially to transcending metaphysics and relativism as a challenge faced by hermeneutical criticism and critical hermeneutics. Additionally, the “critical” horizon of the main handbook of pedagogy used in Polish universities is discussed. The author point to the wasteful efforts at instigating the breakthrough in the reception of critical pedagogy and he exemplifies them by an instance of misbegotten analysis of the allegedly delayed critical pedagogy of work. As a particularly positive example the author presents a new effort at developing critical hermeneutics (and radical praxis) for pedagogy by Andrzej Wierciński. In the concluding part written “in lieuof conclusions,” four lists of critical problems’ dislocations are provided; the problems are both convergent and related to one another, thereby redefining current research objectives and pertain to practical applications in educational praxis.
