The air gap magnetic field (AGMF) is the key factor in determining the ironless tubular permanent magnet synchronous linear motor (ITPMSLM). The distortion of its waveform causes thrust fluctuation during the operation of the motor, resulting in poor machining accuracy of the machine tool. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new chamfered permanent magnet structure (CPMS) to improve its performance. First, the equivalent magnetic charge method is used to analyze the AGMF, and the analytical expressions of the no-load back EMF and thrust of the new motor are obtained. Second, the AGMF of six kinds of CPMS is analyzed by the Fourier coefficient. Taking the minimum harmonic distortion rate as the optimization objective, the CPMS that makes the AGMF waveform reach the best sinusoidal property is obtained and the no-load back EMF and thrust of the new motor are analyzed. Then, the new motor is compared with the ITPMSLM of rectangle permanent magnet structures (RPMS). Finally, according to the CPMS, the test prototype is built and tested under different working conditions. The research results show that when the outer circumference is 45o chamfered, the ratio of permanent magnet thickness h2 to the chamfered thickness h1 is 0.8; the sinusoidal property of AGMF is the best, and this structure can effectively reduce the motor thrust fluctuation rates to less than 0.01%, which verifies the effectiveness of the CPMS in improving the sinusoidal property in the AGMF and restraining the thrust fluctuation of the ITPMLSM.

Reducing the noise of the underwater propulsor is gaining more and more attention in the marine industry. The pump-jet propulsor (PJP) is an extraordinary innovation in marine propulsion applications. This paper inspects the effects of blade number on a pre-swirl stator pump-jet propulsor (PJP) quantitatively and qualitatively. The numerical calculations are conducted by IDDES and ELES, where the ELES is only adopted to capture the vortical structures after refining the mesh. The numerical results show good agreement with the experiment. Detailed discussions of the propulsion, the features of thrust fluctuation in time and frequency domains, and the flow field are involved. Based on the ELES results, the vortices in the PJP flow field and the interactions between the vortices of the stator, rotor, and duct are presented. Results suggest that, though changing the blade number under a constant solidity does not affect the propulsion, it has considerable effects on the thrust fluctuation of PJP. The wakes of the stator and rotor are also notably changed. Increasing the stator blade numbers has significantly weakened the high-intensity vortices in the stator wake and, hence, the interaction with the rotor wake vortices. The hub vortices highly depend upon the wake vortices of the rotor. The hub vortices are considerably broken by upstream wake vortices when the load per rotor blade is high. In summary, the blade number is also vital for the further PJP design, particularly when the main concerns are exciting force and noise performance.

In recent years, with the development of the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM), the application of PMLSM has not been limited only to the high-end equipment field; the primary stator discontinuous segmented-PMLSM (DSPMLSM), which consists of multiple primary stators and one mover, has also been applied in long-distance transportation systems, such as electromagnetic launch, high precision material transport, etc. Compared with the symmetry phase parameters of conventional PMLSM, the stationary electrical parameters vary when the mover enters and leaves the primary stators (the inter-segment region). At the same time, due to the sectional power supply, there will be primary suction or pulling force when the mover enters and exits the inter-segment region, which will lead to large thrust fluctuation and result in lager position error. This paper proposed a related drive and control strategy about the DSPMLSM system, which improved the position tracking accuracy during the full range of DSPMLSM. First, the parameter variation between stator segments has been analyzed through finite element simulation of DSPMLSM. Then, a double closed-loop series control structure of position-current is designed, in which a PI-Lead controller was adopted for the position loop and a PI controller was adopted for the current loop. In order to improve the position tracking accuracy of DSPMLSM, a thrust fluctuation extended state observer (TFESO) was adopted to observe and compensate the complex thrust disturbances such as cogging force, friction and other unmodeled thrust fluctuation. At last, the DSPMLSM experimental stage was established, and the experimental results show that the proposed driver and control theory can effectively improve the position tracking accuracy of the whole stroke of DSPMLSM.

Abstract In this paper, a novel type of low frequency vibration plastic forming equipment is proposed, in which the slotted tubular permanent magnet synchronous liner motor (slotted – TPMLM) is the core component and plays the roles of power source and vibration source. So, this paper focuses on the research about the design of the slotted - TPMLM. The suppression and optimization of motor thrust fluctuation has always been a hot research issue. But that is not the purpose of this article. Here, the effect of the length of stator core on end force and the influence of the number of poles and slots on the cogging force are discussed in detail. The purpose is to design the thrust fluctuation of slotted – TPMLM reasonably so that the thrust fluctuation can be used in the low frequency plastic forming. The slotted – TPMLM is designed, manufactured, and tested. The experimental results show that the motor can output thrust with periodic fluctuation (low frequency, about 4.8 Hz), and the thrust fluctuation accounts for about 16.5% of the average thrust, which meets the metal low frequency vibration plastic forming requirements. Consequently, the low frequency vibration plastic forming equipment can be realized, which contributes to the field of the plastic forming.

Permanent magnet linear motors can cause thrust fluctuation due to cogging and end effects, which will affect the operation stability of the linear motor. In order to solve this problem, a new method of eliminating alveolar force by using phase-shifting and displacement is proposed in this paper. Taking the cylindrical permanent magnet linear motor as an example, the traditional cylindrical permanent magnet linear motor is divided into two unit-motors, and established finite element analysis model of cylindrical permanent magnet linear motor. It is different from other traditional methods, the thrust fluctuation was reduced by both phase-shifting and displacement simultaneously in this paper, and through simulation analysis, it is determined that the thrust fluctuation suppression effect was the best when the cogging distance was shifted by half. Furthermore, a comparative simulation was made on whether the magnetic insulating material was used. The simulation results show that: The method proposed in this paper can effectively suppress the thrust fluctuation of the cylindrical permanent magnet linear motor. And it can be applied to other similar motor designs. Compared with the traditional method of suppressing thrust fluctuation, the mechanical structure and the technological process of suppressing thrust fluctuation used in this method are simpler.
