A high-index dielectric radome seam is camouflaged with respect to a low-index dielectric radome panel by tuning the seam with carefully engineered metasurfaces. A transmission-line approach is used to model the metasurface-tuned seam and analytically retrieve the corresponding surface impedance, from which the unit-cell design is then tailored. Full-wave simulations and microwave antenna measurements performed on a proof-of-concept prototype validate the undesired scattering suppression effect in the case of normally and obliquely incident transverse electric and transverse magnetic wave illuminations. Robustness of the proposed solution to fabrication tolerances is also reported. The study presents metasurface-tuning as an easily implementable, frequency adjustable, and polarization insensitive solution to reduce the scattering of dielectric mechanical seams and improve the overall transparency performance of radome structures.

Transient receptor potential vanilloid member 1 (TRPV1) is activated in response to capsaicin, protons, temperature, and free reactive oxygen species (ROS) released from inflammatory molecules after exposure to harmful stimuli. The expression level of TRPV1 is elevated in the dorsal root ganglion, and its activation through capsaicin and ROS mediates neuropathic pain in mice. Its expression is high in peripheral and central nervous systems. Although pain is a response evolved for survival, many studies have been conducted to develop analgesics, but no clear results have been reported. Here, we found that naringin selectively inhibited capsaicin-stimulated inward currents in Xenopus oocytes using a two-electrode voltage clamp. The results of this study showed that naringin has an IC50 value of 33.3 μM on TRPV1. The amino acid residues D471 and N628 of TRPV1 were involved in its binding to naringin. Our study bridged the gap between the pain suppression effect of TRPV1 and the preventive effect of naringin on neuropathic pain and oxidation. Naringin had the same characteristics as a model selective antagonist, which is claimed to be ideal for the development of analgesics targeting TRPV1. Thus, this study suggests the applicability of naringin as a novel analgesic candidate through antioxidative and analgesic effects of naringin.

Background: Cognitive impairment is a severe health problem faced by older adults and their families, as well as the countries in which they live. Differences in place of residence may contribute to differences in the cognitive function of older adults, and the mediating effect of social participation has rarely been studied in China. Methods: A total of 10,014 older adult participants were included, using data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS). Place of residence was described as either a city, town, or rural area. The frequency of participation in organized social activities and visits and interactions with friends was used to assess both formal and informal social participation. The Chinese version of a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used as a measure of cognitive function. The mediation analysis was conducted using Hayes’ process version 3.4 on SPSS (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: Place of residence had a negative effect on cognitive function in older adults. The mediating functions of both informal (a1b1 = 0.199) and formal (a2b2 = −0.056) social participation indicate a suppression effect on the part of informal social participation and a partial mediation effect on the part of formal social participation in terms of the association between place of residence and cognitive function in older adults. Promoting both informal and formal social participation seems to be an important strategy for preventing a decline in the cognitive function of older adults, especially for those living in rural areas.

Chatter is more likely to occur during the turning process of a thin-walled cylindrical workpiece owing to the low rigidity of such workpieces. Chatter causes intensive vibration, deterioration of the surface finish accuracy, tool damage, and tool wear. Tuned mass dampers (TMD) are usually applied as a passive damping technique to induce a large damping effect using a small mass. This study experimentally investigated the effect of the mounting arrangement and tuning parameters of the TMDs on the production of chatter during the turning process of a thin-walled cylinder, wherein multiple TMDs with extremely small mass ratios were attached to the rotating workpiece. The results of the cutting tests performed by varying the circumferential and axial mounting positions of the TMDs exhibited different characteristics of the chatter suppression effect. Conclusively, the TMDs could suppress the chatter generated by the vibration mode with circumferential nodes if they were mounted on the workpiece to avoid the coincidence of the circumferential arrangement with the pitch of the vibration nodes, regardless of the extremely small mass of the TMDs.

Emerging evidence supports that the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy is associated with the host’s gut microbiota, as prior antibiotic intake often leads to poor outcome and low responsiveness toward ICB treatment. Therefore, we hypothesized that the efficacy of ICB therapy like anti-programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) treatment required an intact host gut microbiota, and it was established that probiotics could enhance the recovery of gut microbiota disruption by external stimuli. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the probiotics, Lactobacillus rhamnosus Probio-M9, on recovering antibiotic-disrupted gut microbiota and its impact on the outcome of ICB therapy in tumor-bearing mice. We first disrupted the mouse microbiota by antibiotics and then remediated the gut microbiota by probiotics or naturally. Tumor transplantation was then performed, followed by anti-PD-1-based antitumor therapy. Changes in the fecal metagenomes and the tumor suppression effect were monitored during different stages of the experiment. Our results showed that Probio-M9 synergized with ICB therapy, significantly improving tumor inhibition compared with groups not receiving the probiotic treatment (P < 0.05 at most time points). The synergistic effect was accompanied by effective restoration of antibiotic-disrupted fecal microbiome that was characterized by a drastically reduced Shannon diversity value and shifted composition of dominating taxa. Moreover, probiotic administration significantly increased the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria (e.g., Bifidobacterium pseudolongum, Parabacteroides distasonis, and some Bacteroides species; 0.0001 < P < 0.05). The gut microbiome changes were accompanied by mild reshaping of the functional metagenomes characterized by enrichment in sugar degradation and vitamin and amino acid synthesis pathways. Collectively, this study supported that probiotic administration could enhance the efficacy and responsiveness of anti-PD-1-based immunotherapy, and Probio-M9 could be a potential candidate of microbe-based synergistic tumor therapeutics. The preclinical data obtained here would support the design of future human clinical trials for further consolidating the current findings and for safety assessment of probiotic adjunctive treatment in ICB therapy.

Owing to the proliferation of rumors on social media, it is necessary to disseminate debunking information to minimize the harm caused by them. Using content analysis, sentiment analysis, and regression analysis, this study examined the mediating role of follower count in the relationship between the debunker’s identity and sharing behavior, and it explored the relationship between the text sentiment of debunking information and sharing behavior based on data on the spread of three rumors that circulated extensively on social media. Using an ordinary account as a reference, we found that the mediating or suppression effect (i.e., when direct and indirect effects are significant and opposite) of follower count in the relationship between debunker’s identity (celebrity, media, or government) and sharing behavior was significant. The three test identities (celebrity, media, and government) had more followers than the ordinary account, which resulted in a significant positive effect on the number of reposts. The debunker’s identity did not have a positive effect on the sharing of debunking information when controlling for mediating variables. Debunking information with emotional overtones (positive or negative) was shared more widely compared with information with neutral emotions, and the dominant emotional polarity was different in the three different rumors. These findings can contribute to the generation of debunking information content, which can aid in the development of effective communication strategies and improvement in the efficiency of crisis management.

Abstract In order to further optimize the output current harmonic suppression effect of photovoltaic grid-connected inverters, a composite control strategy of LCL type photovoltaic grid-connected inverter output current is proposed. This strategy combines proportional complex integral (PCI) control and repetitive control (RC) in parallel, draws a composite control block diagram, introduces a transfer function, and designs PCI and RC control parameters. Prove that the compound control can reduce current harmonics, achieved the purpose of reducing the steady-state error of the fundamental frequency. And adopts a new PCI composite control strategy, which helps to save the cost of the control system. By building the MATLAB/Simulink simulation platform and establishing the PCI+RC composite control model of LCL photovoltaic grid-connected inverter, the comparison of the simulation results shows that compared with the PI+RC control strategy, the total harmonic distortion rate of the grid-connected current is reduced by 25.77. %, significantly improving the quality of grid-connected current.
