Workers’ performance and efficiency are dependent on their workplace facilities. The present study attempts to identify the six physical factors of the workplace environment: furniture and equipment design, air quality, temperature, sanitation, lighting and noise. Workers' feedback is evaluated by using 5 scale Likert method and it is found that found workplace temperature is most critical for workers' performance. The purpose of this study is to identify workers' impressions about their workplace environment and provide a better understanding to the managers about improvement. Industry-level emphasis on these factors can improve workers' performance standards and production quality. Previous work performance studies are not focused on hygiene and sanitation facility but due to the corona pandemic situation sanitation concern has been raised. This study aims to explore the relationship of these factors with gender and work experience of the workers. Variation in each group has provided an understanding of the basic demand of each type of worker. Journal of Engineering Science 12(3), 2021, 57-66

Due to the increased interaction between coworkers on a daily basis, studies show there is a direct correlation with romance that stems from the workplace. While there can be benefits, this paper will show how romances in the workplace can result in negative effects on the workplace environments through a multitude of ways. Workplace Romances deal with issues originating from hierarchal relationships, including sexual harassment and favouritism, which further impacts job productivity and morale. The existence of these forms of relationships may be unavoidable, yet they can also be damaging to a company when relationships become unsuccessful. Workplace Romances can have a major effect on coworkers, including tension and conflict. Workplace policies are a divided subject, as they could perhaps prevent issues, while at the same time, they may create further issues.

Every organisation has invested its time, effort and resources to recruit, train and pay employees’ salaries. These investments are important to ensure that the organisation can produce high-quality employees who will remain with the organisation for a long period of time and be part of the successful members of the service team. Although a lot has been done to ensure that employees remain with the organisation, research has found that employee retention remains to be a problem to most organisations. In validating whether the findings from past studies are still consistent with the present situation, the present research aims to further investigate whether work environment, leader communication and job satisfaction still present significant relationships with hotel employee retention. In total, 550 self-administered questionnaires were distributed to hotel employees attached to 3-star and 4-star hotels located in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Of the total being distributed, 329 were returned and considered usable for data analysis. The hypothesised relationships between variables were tested using the multiple regression analysis. The findings reveal that workplace environment, leader communication and job satisfaction are significantly related to hotel employee retention. The results also demonstrate that job satisfaction mediates the relationship between workplace environment, leader communication and employee retention. The findings of this research advance the understanding of employee retention and create awareness among hotel management to better appreciate the dimensions of transformation which are essential towards ensuring employee job satisfaction. This will consequently lead to a long-term employee retention. Apart from the findings, the paper also highlights the limitations and suggestions for future research. Keywords: Workplace environment, leader communication, job satisfaction, employee retention, hotel industry.

Discussion of the insider threat gains more attention every day. Much of the debate concerns the dysfunctional actions and behaviours of the malicious insider, whose ability to cause harm commands headlines on a regular basis. Technological strides have been made to identify the behaviours that could locate the malicious insider threat and even predict the likelihood of such behaviours before they take place. This chapter addresses areas beyond those frequently explored when discussing the methods and means of discovering dysfunctional behaviour by examining the entire workforce and the factors affecting the entire workplace environment. Are there opportunities where leadership could better measure and shape the work environment, thereby creating a different work environment for employees? What happens when companies fail to utilize every metric available and every opportunity to shape the work environment? Are there opportunities not just to identify the malicious insider threat but to create measurable insider advocacy?

PurposeThis study examines the effect of open-mindedness (OM) and humble behavior on innovation through the mediator role of learning.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative design was adopted to collect data through a questionnaire-based survey distributed to 400 employees at international oil companies operating in Iraq.FindingsThe results indicate a direct positive of learning on innovation. Hence, there is a natural and partial indirect effect of humble behavior on innovation and a full indirect impact of OM on innovation through learning.Research limitations/implicationsThe theoretical and practical implication of this study indicates that individual learning on innovation is vital when the workplace environment has a diversity of cultural backgrounds. Moreover, the implications of this study may contribute to determining the weakness of invention in such industries because of the effect of personal characteristics (i.e. OM and humble) on readiness to learn.Originality/valueIn a culturally diverse work environment, the behavior of humble and OM will have a significant impact on the intensity of individual learning, which would increase innovation in the context of the oil industry. Therefore, the essence of originality in this study is to lead the managers to pay attention to the psychological aspects of the workplace environment that require learning and innovation.

Nurses in this study reported a high prevalence of low back pain (82.7%), burnout (78.3%), and occupational injuries (70.5%). They also reported insufficient physical activities (90.6%). High prevalence of burnout and low back pain were associated with low levels of physical activities among nurses.
