A new design strategy was proposed to improve the mechanical performance of double network (DN) hydrogels by introducing polyhydroxy compounds into the DN structure and form a physically linked double network through the interaction of hydrogen bonding. Herein, agar/poly(acrylic acid)/hydroxyethyl cellulose composite hydrogels could be prepared by a simple one-pot method. The resulting hydrogels exhibit highly mechanical properties and excellent recoverability, which have potential applications in biomedical fields.

In the present study, nontargeted metabolomics was used to screen the phenolic and polyhydroxy compounds in pepper products. A total of 186 phenolic and polyhydroxy compounds, including anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, catechin derivatives, flavanones, flavones, flavonols, isoflavones and 3-O-p-coumaroyl quinic acid O-hexoside, quinic acid (polyhydroxy compounds), etc. For the selected 50 types of phenolic compound, except malvidin 3,5-diglucoside (malvin), l-epicatechin and 4′-hydroxy-5,7-dimethoxyflavanone, other compound contents were present in high contents in freeze-dried pepper berries, and pinocembrin was relatively abundant in two kinds of pepper products. The score plots of principal component analysis indicated that the pepper samples can be classified into four groups on the basis of the type pepper processing. This study provided a comprehensive profile of the phenolic and polyhydroxy compounds of different pepper products and partly clarified the factors responsible for different metabolite profiles in ongoing studies and the changes of phenolic compounds for the browning mechanism of black pepper.

In this paper, we report a synthetic method to prepare vegetable oil-based polyurethane acrylate (PUA) resin, which can be used in photo polymerization coating, ink and other fields. First, the mercaptoethanol was introduced into castor oil via thiol-ene photo-click reaction with UV irradiation, forming polyhydroxy compounds, then we added the isocyanate acrylate, which was obtained by the reaction between hydroxypropyl acrylate (HPA) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), into polyhydroxy compounds, the molar ratio of HPA and IPDI is 1:1. Finally, we get the castor oil-based polyurethane acrylate. Different functional acrylate can be obtained by adjusting the hydroxyl content. Furthermore, the structure and performance of Polyurethane acrylate was confirmed by FT-IR and TG. The water absorption and adhesion of synthetic polyurethane acrylate were tested. Meanwhile, the thermal stability was studied. The results indicated that the thiol-ene addition reaction was proceeded and compared to our previous studies, the properties of cured film are greatly improved, especially the hardness and thermal stability.

Numerous stable complexes of boric acid with polyhydroxy compounds, including tartaric, salicylic, citric, malic, and other acids, are known. The structure of some compounds contains polyanion. In this paper, a novel potassium borate hydrate [K(H4B5O10) •2(H2O)] has been synthesized from a solution reaction and the crystal structure has been determined by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Orthorhombic, Aba2. a = 11.0781(14) Å b = 11.1780(15) Å c = 9.0508(11) Å α=β=γ=90°. V= 1120.8(2) Å3. Z=4. Rgt = 0.0244, wRref = 0.0623. T= 298 K. The crystal packing is stabilized by O-H...O hydrogen bonds interaction and three dimensional framwork structure is formed. The work is originality and has a new crystallographic structure shape.

The study of flotation separation on two different mineral shows that inhibitors such as amino, hydroxyl, act. take no significant inhibitory effect on that kind of minerals; polyhydroxy compounds such as starch, tannic acid do not inhibit marmatite, but Jamesonite; the Congo red dye containing a number of sulfonic acid groups and amino can inhibit marmatite and Jamesonite, but especially for marmatite.
