This article examines Jordanian postage stamp depiction of the West Bank as part of the Hashemite Kingdom from 1952 to 1985. The majority of maps of the West Bank are featured as part of Jordan, both during Jordanian rule of the West Bank (1948–1967) and after Israel conquered the land during the 1967 war. Sometimes the West Bank is delineated from Jordan to suggest a territorial dispute with Israel, while other times, the West Bank is shown as part of Palestine. The ambiguous representations of the West Bank as Jordanian territory, disputed territory, and Palestinian territory reinforce Hashemite sovereignty claims to the West Bank while also supporting Palestinian rights and acknowledging Jordanian rule of the West Bank was conditional upon settlement of the Palestinian issue. Finally, this analysis seeks to explain why stamps stopped showing the West Bank as part of Jordan in 1985, three years before the kingdom formally severed all legal and administrative ties to the land.

Subject Prospects for the Arab-Israeli conflict to end-2021. Significance Israel's ten-day conflict with Hamas in Gaza in May brought the Palestinian issue back onto the regional political agenda, after a lengthy period in which it had been relegated to the background. The new US administration was forced to engage seriously with a crisis that had been low down on its list of priorities, while in the Arab world, Egypt seized an opportunity to reclaim its former status as a key regional power.

This study aimed to examine the path of the Palestinian issue between the Nakba in 1948 and the deal of the century in 2020. More specifically, and based on a political approach, the study aimed to identify the conspiracies made to seize Palestine and implant the Israeli entity in 1948. The study also traced the main milestones the Palestinian issue passed through, beginning with the wars, launched between the Arab countries and Israel (1948-1982), and ending up with signing peace treaties (Peace for Land) supported by the United States (1979-2010). Recently, the American-Israeli coalition prepared the latest vision to address the Palestinian issue called "the deal of the century" in 2020 in order to eliminate this issue and in an attempt to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. To achieve these objectives, the study followed the descriptive analytical method in order to describe and analyze major developments, and to arrive at logical interpretations of such developments as well as the pragmatic approach that is based on power and national interest, which explains the Zionist and Western behavior practiced in the Middle East. The study major findings revealed that the United Kingdom took the responsibility of establishing a racist state in Palestine in 1948. This state received unlimited support from the United States during wars and peace talks. Some Arab regimes colluded with the American-Israeli project and hastened to normalize with this entity in exchange for giving up support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people as was clear in the deal of the century.

The events of the “Arab spring” and its consequences as well as the “Iranian threat”, which became a key security challenge for the Gulf States, not without the efforts of Benjamin Netanyahu and supported by the pro-Israel Trump administration (2016-2020), seemed to have removed the Palestinian case from the priority list of Middle East issues. The role of Russia, the traditional partner of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) since Soviet times, also looked more low- key after the collapse of the Soviet Empire, especially amid resolution of the military-political crisis in Syria. Russian diplomacy on the Palestinian track remained unnoticed compared to the activity in the region of Donald Trump’s envoys, who promoted a peace plan for settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict known as the “deal of the century”. Having failed to achieve the main goal, the White House contributed to the signing of the “The Abraham Accords”, which was a breakthrough given that the Arab states declared the solution of the Palestinian issue as precondition for formal relations with the Jewish state. If Arab-Israeli normalization continues, Israel will have peace treaties with more than half of the Arab and Muslim states despite the deadlock in the peace process with the Palestinians. Based on the analysis of political processes amid the unresolved Palestinian problem, and above all, Russia’s attempts as a mediator to achieve a settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the author suggests that the Palestinian issue has not lost its political significance and relevance as much as the Israeli government under Netanyahu tries to sell it.

The Palestinian issue remains one of the most persistent and intractable contemporary conflicts. While it retains its special importance for regional players, new conflicts and challenges, along with the changing regional balance of power, have gradually pushed the Palestinian issue into the background on the common Arab agenda. Under these circumstances, the problem has been undergoing transformation, with controversial implications. On the one hand, the struggle of Palestinians for their political rights and for improving their socio-economic conditions comes to the forefront of the Palestinian internal political agenda. There are emerging trends of horizontal social mobilization while the legitimacy of the Palestinian leadership is declining. On the other hand, the absence of positive developments contributes to the increased potential for radicalization and enhances probability of new military clashes.

Significance The deal heightened Palestinian leaders’ sense of diplomatic isolation. The two parties have now declared their commitment to hold long-awaited elections -- the first since 2006 and an initial step towards Palestinian reunification. Impacts The PA may push for more European involvement in future diplomatic initiatives, reducing reliance on US mediation. The breakdown of a united Arab front on the Palestinian issue reflects the growing primacy of narrow national interests in regional affairs. The normalisation deals diminish prospects for a two-state solution, potentially pushing more Palestinians to consider a one-state option.

The aim of this study is to show the Algerian National Movement's position towards the Palestinian Issue in a specific period, i.e. 1948, and to show that the fall of Algeria under French occupation has not distracted Algeria's attention from the Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian Cause. The study is also an attempt to show the Algerians attitude to the Palestinian cause, for this is a critical cause which is of great concern, not only to the Palestinians but to the whole Arab region. This attitude shows the political awareness of early risks arising from the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. This study showed that the Algerian interest towards the Palestinian issue was not only religious due to the sanctity of the place, but it was a blend where Arabism and Islam become mingled. This study will show that the position of the Algerian nationalist movements towards the Palestinian cause, has deepened Algeria's correlation with the Arab East issues, despite the attempts of colonialism in all its forms for the fragmentation of the Arab region, and for the occupancy of each country with its internal crises, and not outside its borders.
