ABSTRACT Southern Rajasthan is region in rich therapeutic herbal medicines and is cautious about women and neonatal health. It uses various herbs for postpartum therapeutic foods among which is a 32 Herbal Composition Formulation, which forms an important recipe. The present study states the principle 45 ingredients of Batisa and composition of this formulation in Ghee or emulsified and alcohol media. Fifteen ingredients, that is, Anethum graveolens, Areca catechu, Curculigo orchioides, Curcuma amada, Embelia ribes, Litsea glutinosa, Mesua ferrea, Myristica fragrans, Quercus infectoria, Rubia cordifolia, Sida cordifolia, Terminalia chebula, Tribulus terrestris, Trigonella foenum-graecum and Vitex negundo are common to both alcohol and Ghee based Batisa.

Objective: The study was planned to investigate the extractive value and in-vitro anti-urolithiatic activity of different extracts of Embelia ribes Burn. F. and Ipomea hederacea Jacq seeds. Methods: Phytochemical analysis was undertaken to evaluate the phyto-constituents present in different extracts. The extracts were prepared by the maceration process. The in-vitro anti-urolithiatic activity was performed by dissolution and turbidity methods. Result: The extractive value of chloroform, ethanol, diethyl ether, n-hexane, acetone and water of Embelia ribes and Ipomea hederacea was found to be 2%, 2.5%, 2.5%, 2%, 1.5%, 1%w/w and 1.5%, 2%, 2.4%, 14%, 2%, 6% w/w respectively. The result of phytochemical analysis showed that aqueous, ethanolic, chloroform, diethyl ether, n-hexane and acetone extract of Embelia ribes and Ipomea hederacea have positive for alkaloids, proteins, carbohydrates, amino acids, tannins, protein, mucilage and glycoside. Moreover the result of anti-urolithiatic activity of ethanol and hexane extract of Embelia ribes and Ipomea hederacea were found to be 84.33±0.67%, 76.67±0.67%, 72.33±0.88 NTU and 73.00±1.15 NTU by dissolution and turbidity methods respectively. Conclusion: On the basis of result analysis, we can conclude that both the plants extract have anti-urolithiatic activity but ethanol and hexane extract have much significant activity than other extracts when compared to standard cystone.

Objective: The present research work deals with the establishment of a standardization parameter for the Pharmacognositical evaluation of the plant Embelia Ribes and Camellia sinensis. Embelia Ribes is widely using in parasitic intestinal infection, however; Camellia sinensis is mainly used in the beverage preparation, for their Antioxidant activity but their anthelmintic effect is unknown. The present study aims to find out the effect of Camellia sinensis against pheritima Posthuma and compare their anthelmintic effect with Embelia Ribes. Methods: The study has been performed under the different parameters 1). The physicochemical parameter includes total Ash value, acid insoluble ash value, water-soluble ash value, moisture content, and foreign organic matter 2). The phytochemical investigation includes the Extraction of Embelia Ribes and Camellia sinensis in different solvents in the increasing order of their polarity with Petroleum ether, chloroform, ethanol, distilled respectively and showed the presence of Alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, tannins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds. 3) The pharmacological studies include the In vitro anthelmintic effect of Embellia Ribes and Camellia sinensis (ethanolic extract) against Pheritima Posthuma. The paralysis time and death time were studied. Results: Shows the physic-chemical parameters such as total Ash value, acid insoluble ash value, water-soluble ash value, moisture content and foreign organic matter, which was determined to be not more than 8.98%, 1.5%, 7.8%, 3.2% and 0.25% in Embelia ribes as well as 7.78%, 1.6%, 8%, 2.2% and 0.21% in Camellia sinensis. Anthelemintic effect of Embellia ribes and Camellia sinensis (ethanolic extract) were investigated by measuring the paralysis time (75+3.76, 60+4.30, 48+4.40 and 73.32+3.80, 53.34+2.50, 38.55+3.45 respectively) and death time (140+2.82, 135+9.95, 97.55+4.25 and 124.85+5.30, 110.82+5.80, 80.30+2.80) at three different concentration 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg, against Pheritima posthuma and compares with the standard drug (Albendazole). Conclusion: Camellia sinensis (ethanolic extract) extract and affords protection against helminthes (Pheritima Posthuma) and results show that Camellia sinensis is as effective as embellia ribes.

Embelia ribes is commonly known as vaibidang or false black pepper is a significant medicinal plant that belongs to the family Myrsinaceae. The ancient Ayurveda physician, Sushruta described that the fruit of E. ribes plant possesses anthelmintic property and is used as a tonic along with the licorice root, which prevents aging and helps in strengthening the body. The fruit of the plant is used in various ayurvedic formulations where it is used as a carminative, anthelmintic, alterative and as stimulant. Due to the overexploitation of the plant, it is considered a threatened medicinal plant. Traditionally, the plant is used as an analgesic, antibacterial, antipyretic, antifertility and anthelmintic agent. Various parts of the plant like roots, berries and leaves of E. ribes plant are used in different herbal formulations. In Ayurveda, it is used to cure skin diseases, abdominal pains, flatulence, worms, mental disorders, tumors, bronchitis, jaundice, cardio disorders and is used as a brain tonic. Embelin is considered as the major chemical constituent isolated from the Embelia ribes plant. In this review, a brief view of the plant is briefly described related to its ayurvedic and folk uses. The reported pharmacological properties of the plant are also defined.

Abstract Background The plants belonging to the genus Embelia, a significant tropical genus with many biological activities, are benefiting because of their robust medicinal properties. Embelin is one of the principal bioactive molecules responsible for the medicinal properties of the genus Embelia. The quantification of the embelin compound among different species in this genus has not yet been investigated, so still uncertain which species and which part should be accepted. The present study was intended to establish a speedy and precise high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method for quantitative study of embelin in various plant parts of Embelia ribes, Embelia tsjeriam-cottam, Embelia basaal, Embelia adnata, and Embelia gardneriana. Result This research confirmed the method as per the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines. We achieved separation on silica gel 60 F254 HPTLC plates using propanol: butanol: ammonia (7:3:7 v/v/v) as a mobile phase. Densitometry scanning performed for detection and quantification at 254 nm and 366 nm. Among the species investigated, the highest amount of embelin was found in E. ribes fruits. Conclusion Embelia ribes fruits are the best source of embelin. Embelin was first described in the endemic species, such as E. adnata and E. gardneriana. The method illustrated in this research may be applied for quantification of embelin and fingerprint analysis of other species within Embelia genus or described genera and chemo taxonomic studies of this genus.

Embelia ribes Burm f. a medicinal woody climber belongs to the Myrsinaceae family. It is also commonly known as false black pepper or vidanga. E. ribes is one of the 32 medicinal plant species identified by the Medicinal Board, Govt. of India, New Delhi, as being important for large-scale cultivation because of its commercial use. It is an endangered medicinal plant valued for its digestive, thermogenic, carminative, depurative, anthelmintic and laxative property since time immemorial. It is also used in the treatment of tumours, asthma, bronchitis, diabetes, heart related problems, nerval disorders, cancerous tumors and liver disorders. E. ribes contain quinine derivative Embelin which has various pharmacological and medicinal properties. It helps to bring a medicinal plants revolution in our country good health and prosperity to people.
