Institutional work as a concept has evolved and diffused beyond roots in management and organizational studies since it was first defined by Lawrence and Suddaby (2006). A diverse literature and recent criticism call for an extensive review of the field. We conducted a systematic review of 452 peer-reviewed articles in 185 different journals published from March 2006 to December 2019. Semantic analysis revealed changes in topics over time, the rise of institutional maintenance, and a focus on individuals and agency. Using thematic analysis, we inductively categorized the claimed contributions to institutional work as theory combining, actors, contexts, institutional work types, representations, and methodology. The findings led us to develop an integrative conceptual framework for future institutional work study built around setting, motivations, types, and outcomes. We visualized the discourse around institutional work, growth of key themes from early theorizing, and an original process model.

The forces that threaten to break apart private regulatory institutions are well known, but the forces that sustain them are not. Through a longitudinal inductive study of the Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) program in the Canadian mining industry, we demonstrate how private regulatory institutions are sustained by strategically manipulating different aspects of an institution’s stringency. Our findings show how shifts in external conditions decreased benefits of participation for firms, triggering institutional destabilization. We demonstrate how the interdependent mechanisms of hollowing—actions that ratchet down aspects of stringency associated with high compliance costs—and fortifying—actions that ratchet up aspects of stringency associated with low compliance costs—worked together to stabilize the institution by rebalancing the competing pressures that underpin it. However, these same mechanisms can hinder the ability of these institutions to substantively address the targeted issues, even as they become more stringent in some areas. Our study advances research on private regulation by showing how different aspects of stringency can be simultaneously ratcheted up and ratcheted down to sustain private regulatory institutions. Further, in positioning institutional stability as an ongoing negotiation, we elucidate the key custodial role of governing organizations like trade associations in institutional maintenance.

Introduction. The fundamental principles of inclusive development are equality of opportunity, availability of all types of resources, equality and fairness in the distribution of income and benefits. The main message of inclusive recreational nature management is the creation of equal opportunities for the use of natural recreational resources and areas for the well-being and quality of life of people. Realization of priorities of the organization of recreational activity is not possible without the developed institutional maintenance. Defining the leading role of state authorities and civil society representatives, which establish a system of laws, rights and responsibilities, "rules of the game" and develop a set of mechanisms for their close institutionalized interaction, it is necessary to form institutions within which public representatives reconcile contradictions and determine common interests. Aim and tasks. The purpose of the study is to study the state and develop directions for the development of institutional support for inclusive tourism and recreational nature. Results. The article examines the state of institutional support for inclusive tourist and recreational nature management in Ukraine. The essence and its content are determined, the documents according to which it is determined are analyzed. The domestic legislative and normative-legal base of regulation of nature use in general and recreational in particular is studied, where separate principles of inclusive development are laid down. At the same time, a significant layer of problems remains unresolved, including the formation of new principles, forms of management to prevent the degradation of natural recreational resources, their diversity and sustainability. The interaction of formal institutions and institutes (legislative and normative base, system of state regulation, bodies of state administration and local self-government, public organizations, approved norms and norms of nature use) and informal institutions has to promote inclusive recreational nature use. Conclusions. The study of the state and directions of development of institutional support of inclusive recreational nature management allowed to determine that the implementation of an inclusive approach requires: changing the structure and stereotype of recreational needs of people and restructuring the economy of recreational nature management; reducing economic and social inequality of people to meet their recreational needs and ensuring equal access to valuable natural recreational resources.

The paper contributes to literatures on settlements and institutional maintenance work. It does so by unpacking post-settlement legitimation efforts required to maintain contentious institutions between previously conflicting actors. Settlements often necessitate the maintenance of institutions from the past whose legitimacy is dubious for the new regime. We study the role played by South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission in re-legitimating and maintaining the institution of the armed forces in the transition from apartheid to democracy. Maintaining this legitimacy required collaboration between the incoming government as well as the apartheid era armed forces. We term these unexpected collaborative efforts “reluctant accommodation work”. Our findings show that the lines of allegiance may be more fluid than currently depicted in the literature. Actors that previously conflicted need to find an interest in collaborating in their efforts to shape central institutions. Second, we show that for settlements to shape the field, they need to agree on the terms of collaboration, what we term “passage points” as well as engage in public ceremonies to broadly legitimate the settlement and the institution it seeks to preserve.

The maintenance and status of institutional maintenance of sprinkler facilities are examined to identify problems and suggest improvement plans for the daily maintenance system for sprinkler facilities over time. In addition, the details of poor inspection practices of sprinkler facilities installed in buildings in the Seoul metropolitan area and records prepared by the agency for fire safety management are analyzed. Suggested improvement measures include drafting legislation to establish maintenance guidelines, standardizing work on fire safety management, handling defective contents, strengthening education of business supervisors, and establishing a maintenance space to prevent corrosion and flooding.

Globalization of economic processes stipulates the qualitative changes in the structure of national economic systems, including in such an important component as the domestic consumer market, causing the updating and creating new rules of its functioning. Shifting focus towards the growing role of innovative-informational factors of domestic market development corresponds to the needs of the market economy and modern challenges faced by our country. Therefore, the need to not only analyze the substantive and transformational aspects of domestic consumer market development but to research the issues related to its structural and institutional maintenance grows in relevance. The paper aims to analyze foreign scientific research related to highlighting economic patterns of domestic consumer market functioning and to develop on this basis the structural-institutional model of the domestic consumer market. The paper outlines the nature of the discourse related to “institutes” and “institutions”. The structural-institutional concept of domestic consumer market functioning is determined. The structural-institutional model of domestic consumer market is developed and its exogenous and endogenous environment is defined. The fact that such a model can be implemented through the use of such institutional elements as the market functioning mechanism used as leverage of impact on economic agents (market participants) is emphasized. The composition of forming and development of structural-institutional links between the domestic consumer market entities is suggested. The structural-institutional dimension of domestic consumer market functioning is found to show the importance of the use of the complex approach to its development by the specification of accents on relationships between all institutional components that can secure normal market activity in the domestic environment.

Following the Ottoman conquest of the Despotate of Serbia in 1459 and the Kingdom of Bosnia in 1463, a new phase of Hungarian-Ottoman relations was introduced. With the disappearance of the Hungarian "buffer" towards the Ottoman-held areas, the territories of the two states became adjacent, and their mutual frontier had to be negotiated afresh. By looking into all available material, Latin, Slavonic, and Ottoman, this paper aims to trace negotiations between the two sides in the period of King Matthias Corvinus’ reign and discern their content and application with regard to borders. It tackles the demarcation of the border between the two sides, and highlights the mechanisms employed for its institutional maintenance.
