The European bison (Bison bonasus) is an endangered species which faces a range of health threats. As little is known of exposure of European bison to paratuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium avium spp. paratuberculosis, known to cause losses in cattle, the aim of the present study was to conduct serological survey in Polish bison herds. Between September 2018 and February 2021, blood samples were collected from 165 European bison from different regions of Poland. Samples were taken whenever the animals were immobilized (e.g., putting on telemetry collars) as well as from any dead animal. The serum samples were tested with ELISA. Three individuals, originating from different captive herds, were found to be seropositive. In conclusion, it was found that Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis infections are not currently a problem in European bison, especially in free-range herds.

Wildlife crime is on a massive scale by whatever metric is used. The illegal trade in wildlife and related products is leading to the decline and extinction of many iconic species from rhino to tigers. Almost all countries are signatures to CITES and therefore should enforce national legislation if alleged infringements of trade of wildlife occur. No country is immune from this illegal trade although countries like Australia have their own specific wildlife crimes. Australia is home to many reptilian, amphibian and avian species that are highly prized, predominantly as pets. Collection of protected species from the wild is illegal in all jurisdictions yet policing remote areas of the outback, where so much of the native endemic fauna and flora lives, is nearly impossible. The illegal international trade in these species is highlighted by two case studies provided in this review. A further case highlights the issues of each of the six states of Australia having separate legislation, which is compounded when wildlife crime can be inter-state crime. Australia is one of the few countries having an institute, based at the Australian Museum, with an accredited wildlife forensic science laboratory and therefore the capability to undertake forensic testing of seized samples. One way to reduce wildlife crime may be by educating those who buy illegally seized products that there is a direct connection between the dead animal from which it came and the devasting effect this purchase has on the environment.

Modern urban life and all the orders established accordingly are people-oriented. It is managed and operated with the codes determined by this human. In this system, the other was excluded, dislodged and exiled to custom. Neither natural, nor plant, animal, almost the entire eco-system has been reorganized according to the conditions and rules determined by the human being with human ego and hypocrisy. It can make enough space for itself to live in the freedom area bestowed by man. When the art movements after 1960 are examined; again, the effects of a human-centered approach are clearly visible. The viewer and many concepts that move when viewed in the frame; He saw no harm in using the living or dead animal as an art object. Although the actions and actions to react to the social tensions have a ritual characteristic, they are only demonstrations that consist of watching the displaced animal. In this research, in the performance titled "I Love America and Me in America", which Joseph Beuys performed in 1974, next to the art object of the live animal, the next row; An analysis will be made regarding his coming to a social reaction symbol. Keywords: Joseph Beuys, changing art object, living animal

The article deals with the subject of art made with body parts of animals. The motive of a dead animal has been present in art since its beginning; in cave paintings and later in Flemish still lives. Yet it is contemporary art that tries to go even further. Instead of representing dead bodies, the artists simply use them. They could be “mere” dead flies, or giant sharks. Andrzej Pitrus discusses taxidermy, which normally is not considered a proper art, but many “real” artists use this technique as well. Some ethical issues are also discussed, because many of the works are nowadays sold for steep prices. Where does the critical art end, and exploitation start? It is hard to answer this question, which nevertheless sould be asked.

Abstract The Burmeister’s porpoise Phocoena spinipinnis is a small, poorly-studied, and Near Threatened cetacean species, with a limited geographic range comprising the Pacific and Atlantic coastal temperate waters of five South American countries. Here we describe a stranding of a freshly-dead adult male Burmeister’s porpoise that was discovered opportunistically on the eastern coast of the Falkland Islands (51°40.9′S, 57°43.2′W) on 29 June 2019. Unfortunately the carcass was removed by an unknown source prior to any scientific sampling, but the morphological features revealed in photographs taken of the dead animal were sufficient to verify the species identification. This is the first known record of Burmeister’s porpoise in the Falklands, confirming a sixth range state for the species and expanding its known distribution range eastwards from the previous nearest documented occurrence in Tierra del Fuego by at least 600 km across the Patagonian Shelf.

This paper explores the production of urban spaces as deathscapes, or spaces that are defined by death. We probe the ways in which these spaces are produced by the material content of the spaces themselves, and the discursive representations of those spaces found in popular media. We take as our empirical starting point personal encounters with dead animal bodies in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies, we juxtapose personal experiences with death in the city with popular representations of Baltimore, as well as a spatial analysis of the geographies of non-human death. Using mixed methodologies, we tease out and highlight the ways in which death, dying, bodies, and violence are used to produce urban deathscapes. Our analysis shows how the production of death and deathscapes are inherently uneven spatial processes, which work in tandem to (re)produce certain spaces as deadly. Furthermore, we illustrate how these spaces are produced in part by discourse, politics, representation, and the material presence of non-human death, challenging what we might think of as being capable of producing space, and broadening the concept of deathscapes. Ultimately we conclude that producing urban spaces as deadly is a means by which capital seeks to reproduce itself, and, through harnessing the power of the non-human dead to produce space, utilize nature to produce new forms of urban capital.

Anthrax is a deadly disease caused by Bacillus antracis that damages the lymphatic and vascular systems of animals and humans. Anthrax prevention in Indonesia has been done but has many shortcomings among them is a lot of dead animal raises after vaccination and relatively expensive. The azadirachtin bioactive compound produced by neem endophytic microbes is known to inhibit the growth of B. anthracis bacteria, thus potentially as an anti-anthrax agent. Other bacteria that have the same pathogens as B. antrachis are Methycillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) so that it is used as a research object. The aim of this research is to obtain the active biomaterials from selected neem leaf endophytes to be tested in S. aureus MRSA as bacteria with Anthrax pathogens. The method used in this research is the isolation, selection, and extraction of Neem  endophytes. The process of isolation is done by growing on the general media and the selection process on special media. The bioactive extraction process uses 1000 rpm centrifuge and screening on MRSA culture medium. Inhibitory zone tests were used to determine the effect of endophytic biopsy in inhibiting MRSA growth. The result of the research is that the bioactive endophytes of neem are able to inhibit MRSA growth which is characterized by the formation of drag zone around the endophytic bioactive. Thus it can be concluded that the use of neem endophytes can be a new solution to eradicate the presence of anthrax disease in the livestock and people in Indonesia with safe research methods, relatively inexpensive and ineffective vaccine replacements.

Japakusumadi Yoga is an Ayurvedic formulation, indicated for contraception in Ayurveda. This study determines acute toxicity of ‘Japakusumadi Yoga’ an oral formulation in wister albino rats. Single dose acute toxicity was assessed by employing OECD guidelines 425 using AOT software. Test formulations was administered to overnight fasted animals and 14 days observation of dosed (up down as per requirement) rats was done for general appearance, cage side behaviour including increased or decreasing motor activity, convulsions, straub’s reaction, catatonia, muscle spasm, spasticity, ophisthotonus, hyperesthesia, muscle relaxation, anaesthesia, arching and rolling, lacrimation, salivation, diarrhoea, writhing movement, mode of respiration and changes in skin colour etc., with mortality and autopsy finding in case of dead animal. Based on the observation made and recorded it can be concluded that the test drug is without any toxic potential even at the dose of 2000 mg/kg in animals equivalent to 22.4g for human being.
