The purpose of this study is to explore how university students and lecturers use social media to support their learning and particularly to understand how such emerging technologies usage impacts student learning experience and class communication. In this research, social media tools under consideration are social networking sites, media sharing sites, creation and publishing tools, social bookmarking, and the Internet messaging. This research employed purposive selection to obtain the quality of data from semi-structured interviews of twelve students and four lecturers from the Victoria University of Wellington who are known to have experience of using social media tools in their courses. The study identified two major usages of social media to support learning activities, five key usage activities for students and four major usage activities for lecturers. Students’ choices and usages of social media applications were more diverse compared to the lecturers. The usages and preferences of students from different disciplines were varied. Moreover, there were numbers of social media interactions and communication among the students and their peers. Even though the interaction and communication between students and lecturers through social media was minimum due to the limited uses of social media for formal learning in class by lecturers and students, the lecturers and students expressed that the usage of social media helped improve class communication. Students’ engagement was only area that affected by social media choices and communication using social media by lecturers. The choices and communication by students would affect greater and wider aspects of student learning experience such as learning ability, communication and collaboration, problem solving, access to information, and productivity. Even though the usage of social media to support learning by students and lecturers did not impact student learning experience equally, the findings suggest that it helps facilitate learning activities, benefit students, and enhance the student learning experience to some extent.

This chapter will present the online environment as the new channel for social interaction, putting into focus the organizational communication and its development from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0. Nowadays, talking about the online environment, Social Media is the main concept, defined by: social networks, Social Bookmarking sites, business blogs, and many other web pages where users can interact and can generate or access content, as well as more static sites, generating unidirectional information. The chapter will also discuss the implication of Social Media characteristics, defining the main terms and includes a case study discussing the OMV Petrom strategy of communication using Social Media channels. So, the online environment can be seen as a second reality in terms of professional activity. Specialists become users, networking, and communicating permanently. The online environment is therefore in favor of any organization that wants to be connected to this technologically and professionalized world.

This chapter elucidates the concept of social bookmarking, its benefits in digital libraries as well as the implications of its use on the intellectual property rights of the creators of the bookmarked works. The author concludes that digital libraries can use social bookmarking as a means of increasing access to and sharing of information resources; improve web searching; as well as to enhance collaboration in the creation and use of information. Since social bookmarks are, by and large, public descriptions of and pointers to the original resources, digital libraries do not infringe the intellectual property rights of their creators. Nonetheless, the libraries should watch against copying large volumes of content from the original resource as this may be construed as an intellectual competition with the bookmarked resource. Digital libraries are advised to develop and apply social bookmarking policies to streamline their use of social bookmarks.

Considering the need of providing students with new approaches for the learning of English, this paper attempts at offering primary-school teachers some ideas for the EFL flipped classroom. One of the problems of in-service teachers is the lack of knowledge about this methodology and its applicability in the language classroom. Once they understand the requirements, the lack of attractive resources makes them doubt about their practicability. In order to solve this, this paper proposes the use of learning paths created with the well-known social bookmarking site Symbaloo. These learning paths can be built with the requirements of the any specific classroom, easily personalized and shared. Symbaloo learning paths enable user to gather diverse material and resources using both online resources and self-created teaching material. The role of LKT/ICT needs to be considered here and some options are provided for the learning path so as to complement the contents in the classroom. This article shows the steps to follow and the resources which can suit the needs of most primary school teachers in the building of a learning path. Finally, an example of genuine learning path is provided.

Cilj rada je komparativnom analizom korpusa ključnih riječi i korisničkih oznaka članaka triju časopisa Vjesnika bibliotekara Hrvatske (2019); Glasnika Narodne biblioteke Srbije (2017; 2018) i Bosniace (2019) ispitati primjenu korisničkih oznaka društvenog označavanja u predmetnoj obradi građe. Pretpostavka je da dobiveni rezultati nakon analize mogu biti indikativni za osmišljavanje strategije unapređenja predmetnog opisa i prilagođavanja bibliotečkog kataloga savremenom korisniku; na osnovu korisničkih oznaka dodijeljenih jezikom korisničke zajednice.----------------------------------------------Researching of application of the user bookmarks in subject cataloguing: social bookmarkingThis research is done with the aim to find a solution on how to improve the accessibility of collections in catalogues and to improve subject cataloguing. The Library 2.0 model is one of many library service models. It has its origin in and has borrowed concepts from Web 2.0, which is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information-sharing, interoperability, user-centred design and collaboration on the World Wide Web. The focus of Library 2.0 is on user-centred change and participation in the creation of content. The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation of Library 2.0 in the libraries of the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality (hereafter City of Cape Town) and the challenges they encountered in using Library 2.0 technologies to deliver services. The website of the City of Cape Town Library and Information Services Department was visited to explore the implementation and usage of Web 2.0 tools, including blogs, really simple syndication (RSS), wikis, social networking, and social bookmarking. In addition, data were obtained from an interview conducted with the manager at the said department in charge of technical services, which included the implementation of new technologies. It was found that City of Cape Town libraries were slow in adopting Library 2.0 technologies in their services—there was no evidence on the website of the use of popular Web 2.0 tools such as blogs, wikis, video- and photo-sharing/-streaming, RSS, social bookmarking, and mash-ups. The research shed some light on the Web 2.0 tools used by public libraries other than those in Cape Town and it also highlighted how they were used and what their benefits were. More importantly, the research demonstrated the need for public libraries to embed Web 2.0 tools in their services and to keep abreast with and embrace emerging technologies.
