This essay chronicles my research relationship with choreographer, teacher, educator, and activist Ola Skanks. Canadian-born and of West Indian (St. Lucia and Barbados) descent, Skanks was a groundbreaking dance and fashion design artist who combined modern, Western art forms with traditional dances of the Africa diaspora. I share excerpts from my work to date, including my archival exhibition, It’s About Time: Dancing Black in Canada 1900–1970, to provide context for the circumstances that Black people danced in, socially and/or as performers. This is followed by a selection of photos from Skanks’s archival collection that illustrate the scope of her creative and community contributions. In conclusion, I offer a transcription of a speech I gave when Skanks was inducted into the Dance Collection Danse’s 2018 Encore! Dance Hall of Fame, alongside some of Canada’s most well-known dance artists and community builders. I detail some of the highlights of my meetings with her and also the profundity of the delayed recognition of a woman so far ahead of her time.

THEORETICAL CONSTRUCTION OF PSYCHOPEDAGOGICAL ADVICE ABSTRACT The formation of the Bachelor of Education. Pedagogy-Psychology as a psychopedagogical advisor demands the theoretical appropriation of psychopedagogical advice to managers and teachers as a mode of professional action, in correspondence with the object of the profession and the spheres of action. In the understanding of the role of psychopedagogical advisor, there are inadequacies that limit the theoretical-methodological configuration of this professional process. In this direction and in response to this problem, from an interdisciplinary approach, the logic of the construction of psycho-pedagogical advice is proposed in order to favor the mastery of the mode of action based on the academic, labor and research relationship. This work is been of the authors' doctoral investigations. Theoretical methods are used from a systemic perspective: analytical-synthetic, historical-logical and empirical: observation, survey, interview and documentary analysis. The results express the integrative dialectic of the training process for psychopedagogical advice and its contextualized application in educational situations. KEYWORDS: construction; psychopedagogical advice service; way of professional behavior.

The aim of the study is to study the influence of the personal characteristics of a nurse on professional suitability for work in a pediatric hospital. The results of the study allow us to assert that the professional suitability of a nurse is influenced by a number of characterological abilities, including such as moral normativity, neuropsychic stability, adaptive abilities, and communication skills. Conclusion. When hiring, a psychodiagnostic examination should be carried out to study the characterological characteristics of future employees, which will reduce the turnover of personnel in pediatric departments. Taking into account the psychological characteristics that affect the professional suitability to work in the pediatric department, it is possible not only to select the most psychologically ready staff, but also to prevent the development of professional deformations and burnout syndrome in employees.

Even though the relationship between teaching and research has been examined extensively over the past decade, and a number of published articles and seminar based workshops exist (Hattie and Marsh, 1996) ; there continues to be a disconnect in the application and integration of these two concepts in the academic setting. This difficulty may be due to the perception that teaching and research are two separate entities that need to be fitted together (Boyer 1990). An alternative approach to understanding these two concepts is to envision them as one entity consisting of two components that feed off of each other. That is, as academics, our goal is to engage in a single entity identified as scholarly activities. These activities should present themselves as an amalgamation of teaching and research. To have a scholarly presence, an academic must not only be competent in both areas, but must consistently demonstrate the relationship between their teaching and research throughout their tenure. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of strategies academics can consider as they continue to refine and develop their program of scholarship. A summary of the relationship between teaching and research will be provided, followed by a presentation of various methods that can enhance the teaching and research relationship both within and outside of the classroom environment.

AbstractThis article continues the discussions of relational ethics put forward in Human Arenas in “Arena of Ethics” (Hilppö et al., 2019). Our aim in this article is to explore and discuss relational ethics, as ethics-in-action, in a long-term research relationship with a child. Our question is: How is ethics-in-action negotiated during critical incidents in the construction of a research space that involves a long-term research relationship with a young child? This article is based on a research project that focused on children’s transitions in early childhood education and care (ECEC). These transitions include the transition from home care to ECEC as well as transitions from child groups or settings to other ECEC groups or settings, and the transition to pre-primary education. We apply a particular lens to the corpus of data, analyzing and reflecting critical incidents vis-à-vis a negotiation of ethics-in-action during the construction of our research space, which involved a long-term research relationship with a child. Our results show that critical incidents in our study’s negotiation of ethics-in-action included (a) the focus child’s spontaneous contributions to the study’s interviews, (b) interdependencies between the child and diverse researchers, and (c) the child’s evolving expertise in data collection, which restructured our study’s research space. We conclude that ethical questions cannot be separated from the mutually constituted relationships or socio-spatial context in where they emerge; thus, they are relationally and spatially embedded.
