At present, the state of the mining industry, mainly fuel and energy resources and non-ferrous metals, plays a special role in the economic development of not only individual regions, but also the whole country. In the Russian Federation, revenues derived from the extraction and export of mineral raw materials in value terms account for about 80% of Russian exports. The article discusses the economic aspects of subsurface use in the northern resource-type regions specializing in the extraction of highly liquid mineral resources: oil, gas, coal, diamonds and gold in order to identify strengths and weaknesses. The mineral raw materials and production potentials of the mining industry of the regions are analyzed. The method of mathematical statistics evaluates the level of dependence of the social development of regions on the extractive industry on the Cheddock scale. Based on a factor analysis and assessment of the economic components of subsurface use and regional statistics for 2010-2020, there was revealed a high level of resource orientation of the economy; capital intensity of the mining industry and monospecialization of the economy in all northern resource-type regions; a high level of dependence of social development on the extractive industry in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Khanty-Mansiysk-Yugra and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs. The negative and positive factors of the sustainable development of the mining industry are highlighted, and the key points of the prospective development of the economy of the northern regions of the resource type are also identified.

Adopting international standards within health research communities can elevate data FAIRness and widen analysis possibilities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mapping feasibility against HL7® Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources® (FHIR)® of a generic metadata schema (MDS) created for a central search hub gathering COVID-19 health research (studies, questionnaires, documents = MDS resource types). Mapping results were rated by calculating the percentage of FHIR coverage. Among 86 items to map, total mapping coverage was 94%: 50 (58%) of the items were available as standard resources in FHIR and 31 (36%) could be mapped using extensions. Five items (6%) could not be mapped to FHIR. Analyzing each MDS resource type, there was a total mapping coverage of 93% for studies and 95% for questionnaires and documents, with 61% of the MDS items available as standard resources in FHIR for studies, 57% for questionnaires and 52% for documents. Extensions in studies, questionnaires and documents were used in 32%, 38% and 43% of items, respectively. This work shows that FHIR can be used as a standardized format in registries for clinical, epidemiological and public health research. However, further adjustments to the initial MDS are recommended – and two additional items even needed when implementing FHIR. Developing a MDS based on the FHIR standard could be a future approach to reduce data ambiguity and foster interoperability.

The modern economic literature has accumulated enough data indicating that labor markets have local specifics, and a single all-Russian labor market is an abstraction. Therefore, the characterization of the Russian labor market as a system of separate regional markets is very important. The purpose of this paper is to determine the functional characteristics of the labor markets of resource-type regions, to identify the features of their state. We used Rosstat data for 2005–2006, 2008, 2013, 2016–2019, as well as microdata from a sample labor force survey conducted by Rosstat in 2019. It is shown that the factor of resource dependence has some effect on the parameters of regional labor markets, but only in combination with other factors (climatic, demographic, spatial, structural and sectoral). In various regions the influence of this factors can be very different. The cluster analysis made it possible to identify some effects of the influence of the resource dependence on labor markets. Firstly, only a very high level of resource dependence of regions is accompanied by a positive and complex influence on regional labor markets. Secondly, resource dependence of regions provides labor market parameters at least at the national average. From the point of view of state regulation labor markets in regions with a high level of resource dependence deserve special attention. At the same time, the main area of activity should be efforts to diversify the economy at the expense of resource rent. This requires the development of new approaches to the interaction of regional authorities with mining companies based in resource-type regions.

Background: Geographic weights are vital in the floating catchment area (FCA) method of accessibility measurements due to their simulation of spatial barriers in various ways. When modelling population demand, geographical weights with different distance decay coefficients can reflect diverse distance tolerances in facility utilization and could lead to erratic accessibility results. Quantifying accessibility as the sum of weighted supply-demand ratios can alleviate the distance decay coefficient's influence and generate stable geographic patterns. However, the effects of weighted ratios on different FCA models and resources have not been investigated. Methods: To identify impacts of weighted ratios on various FCA variants, this study contrasted the accessibility calculated from the sum of ratios (access) and the sum of weighted ratios (access ratios) within three prevalent FCA models: enhanced two-step FCA (E2SFCA), modified two-step FCA (M2SFCA), and three-step FCA (3SFCA). In addition, the accessibilities of various resources evaluate the stability of the weighted ratios' effect. This study therefore examined the accessibilities to primary schools, job opportunities, and major hospitals in Shanghai. Shanghai is a case study that provides lessons on using big data to measure accessibility in metropolitan areas. Results: Geographic weights can not only mitigate the impact of the distance decay coefficients, but can also eliminate model features,  which reduces the performance of the M2SFCA's supply decay and the 3SFCA's population demand adjustment in accessibility results. Moreover, weighted ratios tend to overestimate accessibility in marginal communities that lie within fewer catchments, regardless of the resource type. This tendency can lead to an epistemological trap that creates an inaccurate and counter-intuitive perception of resource distribution in a given area. Conclusions: The results identify a gap between the methodological logic and the empirical perception in accessibility measurements. This study concludes that the use of geographic weights needs to be cautious and epistemologically consistent.

Honeybees (Apis mellifera) use cues and signals to recruit nestmates to profitable food sources. Here we investigate whether the type of resource advertised within the colony (i.e., pollen or nectar) correlates with the recruits’ choices at the feeding site. We observed that pollen recruits preferred to collect pollen once arrived for the first time at the feeding site, while nectar recruits preferred to forage sucrose solutions. Bees recruited by foragers carrying both resources show intermediate preferences. Studying the plasticity of this response, we found that nectar recruits have a low probability of switching to pollen collection, yet pollen recruits were likely to switch to sucrose solution of increasing concentrations. Our results show that cues associated with the advertised resource type correlate with recruits foraging tendency for pollen and sucrose solution, a feature that would guarantee an efficient resource collection.

The purpose of this study is to determine a valid strategy for implementing payment for the local forest ecosystem services (local forest PES) by considering citizens’ willingness to pay (WTP) and the resource types utilized (taxes and donations). A total of 1000 citizens responded to an online survey, which consisted of questions related to respondents’ socio-demographics, predicting factors (i.e., political orientation, personal tie to the region) of their willingness to pay (WTP), and their willingness to pay for a bundle of 10 different forest ecosystem services (ESs) in the region of the Yeoninsan provincial park in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. The estimation of the respondents’ WTP for the promotion of the forest management activities, which enhances the ES bundle of the local forest, was 14,315–20,216 KRW (12.75–18.00 USD) per year in taxes and 12,258–26,518 KRW (10.92–23.61 USD) per year in donations. This study also revealed that the predicting factors influencing the respondents’ WTP for the promotion of the local forest ESs differed according to the financial resource type (taxes and donations). The results of this study are meaningful in that they can be used as empirical basic data in estimating payments and preparing measures to secure financial resources when designing payments for the ecosystem services for the local forest.

FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) is a specification for exchanging healthcare data electronically. We provide a relatively easy way to populate any FHIR server by using a workflow. A dataset of 25 FHIR JSON files with resource type Bundles, synthetically generated by using Synthea, has been tested for the population of the Vonk Server. The described approach facilitates population of any FHIR server with a KNIME workflow using POST method.

Despite the wide interest in flower colours, only after the end of the nineteenth-century studies started to comprise floral UV reflection, which is invisible to humans but visible to the major groups of pollinators. Many flowers and inflorescences display colour patterns, an important signal for pollinators, promoted by the presence of at least two different colours within flowers or inflorescences, including colours in the UV waveband. For Neotropical savanna plant species, we characterised floral UV features using UV-photography and reflectance measurements. We tested (i) whether floral UV features were constrained by their shared ancestry, (ii) whether floral UV features were associated with pollinators, and (iii) whether floral UV features were associated with floral traits mediating these interactions, including floral resource, type of attraction unit and presence/absence of non-UV colour patterns. Of 80 plant species, ca. 70% were UV-patternless, most of them UV-absorbing. Approximately 30% presented one of three types of UV-patterns: bullseye, contrasting corolla markings oriented toward floral resources or contrasting reproductive structures, which were all considered as floral guides. Floral UV features were phylogenetically constrained and were associated with pollinators, floral resources and attraction unit, but not with non-UV colour patterns. UV-patternless flowers were associated with most of the pollination systems, while UV-patterned flowers were mainly associated with bee-pollination. UV-absorbing flowers comprised the only category with hawkmoth- and butterfly-pollinated flowers, and a high percentage of hummingbird-pollinated species. Nocturnal pollinated species were also commonly UV-absorbing, except for one UV-reflecting bat-pollinated species and one beetle-pollinated species with UV-reflecting stigmas. All types of floral UV features were associated with nectar; however, flowers with contrasting reproductive structures were mainly associated with pollen. There was an association between UV-absorbing species and the presence of inflorescences and intermediate attraction units. Our results evince that phylogenetic relatedness can constraint floral UV features’ diversification, but combinations of evolutionary and ecological processes may be expected in this scenario.
