This paper presents the design and implementation of control strategy for both the speed and direction of a direct current (DC) motor using Android-based application in smart phone. The Raspberry Pi 3 with a motor driver controller has been used to implement the control action via Python-based user-defined programming. The Android application has been developed using Android Developer Tools (ADT) in Java platform. The Android apps work like a client and communicates with Raspberry Pi through wi-fi connectivity. Finally, a small graphical user interface (GUI) has been created in Python in order to interface and control the motor with buttons in GUI. The advantages of GUI are that it is attractive, user friendly, and even a layman can work with the application developed in GUI.

A database is the data collection in a well-organized manner from which its content can easily be accessed, retrieved, managed and updated as per the requirements. A web module based biomedical database management system (BM-DBMS) is developed for Voluntary Health Service (VHS) Multispecialty hospital to assist them to manage the database on their own in real-time. The developed program is based on a data set of 348 medical equipment belonging to 15 departments in the hospital. The database of each medical device having a unique assigned asset number is included in the developed database management system. The web module is built on java platform. The user information runs on My structured query language (My SQL). The facility for the management of medical devices activities from initial log-in to maintenance services is provided. In this project, 3 login credentials namely admin, biomedical and nursing has been developed. The admin can add the asset names, equipment details, medical department, equipment serial number, warranty expiring date. Also, a dashboard to view the total asset, complaints raised, planned preventive maintenance (PPM) details are provided. The nursing staff can raise complaints and the biomedical engineer can view the complaint raised through their respective login.

<p class="Default">Technological innovation has had a remarkable rise and its use in rural areas has become a subdisidiary method for both producers and professionals in the agrarian area. In dairy cattle, there is a lack of information about nutritional management. The supply of minerals is inadequate and it does not meet the requirements of animals often. The objective of this study was to develop an application to estimate the nutritional requirements of calcium for dairy cows and to help producers to provide adequate amounts of this mineral. The application was created from the Java platform, using recommendations from the National Research Council (NRC), with calculation of requirements for maintenance of lactating and non-lactating cows, females in growth, gestation. The application enables the filling of data from animal characterization to the type and quantity of concentrate and forage provided. After filling the data the application will generate the result informing whether the cow in lactation has a deficit, surplus or if it is receiving adequate amounts of the mineral. It also demonstrates the amount of calcium that should be increased or decreased, according to the needs of each animal. Using the bovine calcium application, producers will provide an appropriate supplement, reducing unnecessary costs and increasing milk production.</p>

The evaluation of root crops is important for better understanding of the effects of plant nutrition and nutrient management in the soil. However, the studies and the root system of the culture are slow, require a long time and show low precision results. In this context, digital image processing can be an alternative. The objective of this study was to develop a computational method to assist in the evaluation of the surface area of soybean roots. It was initially developed in Java platform by providing the OpenCV library through the plug-in JavaCV. Then, after the manual count, the soybean root samples that have been scanned, were loaded into the software. The software developed results were correlated with the intersection of the line method. The correlation coefficient (R = 0.77) obtained by the software developed was on average good, compared to the métododa line intersection. Therefore, in general, the proposed method was necessary paraestimar the surface area of the soybean roots.

The evaluation of the root system is important for better understanding the effects of nutrient management on soil and plant nutri-tion. However, root system studies and culture are slow and show low accuracy. In this context, digital image processing may be an alternative. The objective of this research was to develop a computational method to assist evaluation of the soybean root growth. Initially, the free and open access software, available at: http://rm.deinfo.uepg.br/, was developed in Java platform with the OpenCV library supply through the plug-in JavaCV. To evaluate the software, copper wires with 10 mm, 20 mm, and 50 mm of length manually measured using callipers. They were scanned with a resolution of 300 dpi and then images were loaded in the software. Variation coefficients between 0.01 and 2.99 % were obtained. Subsequently, the samples of soybean roots were scanned and the results of developed software and Safira software were correlated with those from the line-intersect method. The determination coefficients (R² = 0.999) of the developed software, on average, were better than those obtained with Safira software (R² = 0.733), when compar-ing with the line-intersect method. Therefore, the proposed method was accurate for length measurements of soybean roots.

This article describes how the java native interface (JNI) is a powerful feature of the java platform that started to draw attention in the latter years as an efficient programming framework for building and delivering innovative technological applications based on disruptive technologies such as mobile, Internet of Things and embedded systems. Developers use it to incorporate native code written in programming languages such as C, C++, python etc., into java. JNI is particularly useful when java applications need to access existing native libraries or code blocks written in other languages to increase performance, avoid recoding and expand interoperability between programming languages for processes that reside in the same process. This article aims to explore JNI features and to discover fundamental operations of the Java programming language, such as arrays, objects, classes, threads and exception handling, and to illustrate these by using various algorithms and code samples.
