This paper aimed to explore and find the concept and content of character values of being grateful. This research was library research using qualitative data types. The primary sources were Tafsr al-Qurān al-'Aẓῑm, Tafsr al-Fakhri ar-Rāzi, Tafsr al-Maraghi, at-Tafsῑr al-Munῑr, Tafsr al-Karῑm ar-Raḥmān fā Tafsῑr Kalām, and Tafsir al-Azhar. At the same time, secondary sources were books or journals related to the concept of gratitude and the value of character education. Data from sources were collected using documentation, then analyzed using subjective thematic interpretation methods and objective hermeneutics. The results showed that the concept of character education in the teaching of gratitude in QS. Ibrahim (14): 7 is both targῑb (motivation) and tarhῑb (threat). This concept will make humans remain in the circle of goodness, who is always patient and grateful to Allah SWT. There are nine values of character education in the teaching of gratitude: trustworthiness, qanā'ah, creativity, hard work, trustworthiness, optimism, caring for others, tawaduk, and istiqamah. These values will be attached to someone who makes gratitude a habit that can be both a motivation and a threat (targῑb wa tarhῑb). These nine character values will have implications for increasing devotion to Allah SWT and increasing compassion for fellow creatures.

Violence against Women (VAW) occurs in different societies in assorted ways in the world. It can be seen from the different lens starting from family structure to the workplaces of women. In Pakistan women experience violence from their own family members even after the promulgation of legislation at national as well as at provincial level. There is variety of existing literature which explains the prevalence of violence in different countries around the globe but mere to find the literature that shows the post-legislative status of women in a country.  This paper aims at describing the status of women after filing a case under the PPWAV Act, 2016 in Punjab. To explain and describe the said issue, the following study followed descriptive analysis and was based on qualitative social research methodology, followed by narrative approach. Relying on saturation of data, thirteen interviewees were interviewed for the said study. For analyzing the narratives, the objective hermeneutics as explained by flick (2014) was used to present data analysis. Major themes derived from the data were violence bringing women from four walls of the house, filing a case of domestic violence: violation of society values and Post case filed domestic problems. It is concluded that the said law does not harmonizes with the family values prevailing in Pakistani social structure hence is unable to eliminate the problem of domestic violence from Punjab.

Abstract Research has shown that long-term care (LTC) volunteers play important roles in enhancing the quality of life (QoL) of older LTC residents, often through providing unique forms of relational care. Guided by Kane’s QoL domains, we used a modified objective hermeneutics method to analyze how unique volunteer roles are represented and supported in provincial policies in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia. We found that policies define volunteer roles narrowly, which may limit residents’ QoL. This happens through (1) omitting volunteers from most regulatory policy, (2) likening volunteers to supplementary staff rather than to caregivers with unique roles, and (3) overemphasizing residents’ safety, security, and order. We offer insights into promising provincial policy directions for LTC volunteers, yet we argue that further regulating volunteers may be an inadequate or ill-suited approach to addressing the cultural, social, and structural changes required for volunteers to enhance LTC residents’ QoL effectively.

AbstractIn the mentoring programme project “Schule für alle” (“School for all”) at the University of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia, university students of primary or special education support a child who is in a situation of crisis for more than one year. In addition, the university students receive ongoing, systematic university support (cf. Kottmann, 2007, p. 32; Kottmann, 2014, p. 380).The accompanying research by “Schule für alle” focuses on the professionalization processes of student teachers during practical phases at universities; accordingly, control groups were included on a pro rata basis. In the pre-post design, all students completed a questionnaire (cf. Pieper, Kottmann & Miller, 2018, p. 294), the evaluation of which shows few changes in the professional perception of competence. Students of the mentoring programme also regularly reflected on their practical experience. Based on the objective hermeneutics it was discovered that the conception of the project supports the process of perceiving, acknowledging and becoming more sensitive in regard to heterogeneous realities in life (cf. Pieper & Kottmann 2019b, p. 312) and that students can consciously perceive and reflect their own normative expectations (cf. Pieper & Kottmann 2019a, p. 79).The article primarily presents the results of the pre-post survey in detail and adds insights into the qualitative evaluation processes. In the conclusion, the potential of the project and mentoring programmes in general, specifically for teacher training students, is described.

One goal of open science is making research processes like analysis more open and traceable. To contribute to this aim, we designed an open digital research environment based on Semantic MediaWiki technology to be used for the qualitative collaborative analysis method of objective hermeneutics. The environment was used in university seminars in which students learned the analysis method in a research-based learning setting. This article examines added values of open analysis in learning and teaching of qualitative research methods. It outlines the potentials of the environment like guiding students through digital structures, and retracing the collaborative interpretation processes, but as well discusses the pedagogical boundaries of open online collaborative work.

PurposeInspired by objective hermeneutics (Oevermann, 1984, 1996, 1999; Oevermann et al., 1979; Weller, 2010; Wohrab-Sahr, 2003) and qualitative validation (Adcock and Collier, 2001; Martis, 2006; Maxwell, 1992), the authors present this essay with the aim of proposing an objective hermeneutic approach to qualitative validation.Design/methodology/approachIn order to develop this approach, the authors consider the contributions of Martis (2006) and Maxwell (1992) about theoretical–empirical validity, Adcock and Collier's propositions (2001) regarding the conceptualization and evaluation of phenomena through specific levels, tasks and stages of validation and the principles of objective hermeneutic interpretation proposed by Wohlrab-Sahr (2003).FindingsThree main contributions are considered: theoretical–empirical validity (Martis, 2006; Maxwell, 1992); levels of validation – theoretical framework, systematized concept, indicators and results (Adcock and Collier, 2001); stages of validation – content validity, convergent validity and nomological validity (Adcock and Collier, 2001); and principles of objective hermeneutic interpretation – sequential interpretation, mental–experimental explanation of possible interpretations, preservation rule, literal character of interpretation, totality, reflection about knowledge used in the analysis and group of interpreters (Wohrab-Sahr, 2003). These contributions were related to establishing a framework that illustrates the proposed objective hermeneutic approach to qualitative validation.Originality/valueThe authors intend to offer to the scope of organization studies an alternative for validation, so that the voices of the researched can be heard. Furthermore, the authors seek to guide researchers as to how to respect and protect what is heard, in order to avoid any invasion of others' discourse.

The purpose of this study is to find and describe (1) the use of Mandar ethnic values in the Passayang-Sayang songs of the 1960-1970 period, (2) the use of the Mandar ethnic values in the Passayang-Sayang songs period of 1970-1980, (3) the use of the Mandar ethnic values in the Passayang-Sayang song period of 1980-1990, (4) the use of Mandar ethnic values in the Passayang-Sayang song period of 1990-2000, (5) the use of the Mandar ethnic value in the Passayang-Sayang song period of 2000-2010, and (6 ) the use of the Mandar ethnic value in the song of the Passayang-Sayang period 2010-Present. The theory used in this research is the theory of literary geography put forward by Herder, Stael, and Ricardson. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The research data are in the form of Passayang-Sayang Mandar poetry texts, informant statements, and facts in the field. Data collection activities carried out by observation and observation techniques, interviews, recording, recording, and documentation. In this study the researcher acted as a key instrument guided by data collection guidelines. Data analysis procedures use the spiral model, while data analysis uses objective hermeneutics. To avoid research bias, triangulation was carried out for each stage of the study, research tools, and clarification of research findings to the informants as poet owners, Focus Group Discussions, and external audits. The findings of this study are the development of ethnic values in the Passayang-Sayang Mandar poem in the form of (16) ethnic values found in the period 1960-1970, (5) ethnic values found in the period 1970-1980, (7) ethnic values found in the 1980 period -1990, (6) ethnic values were found in the period 1990-2000, (7) ethnic values were found in the period 2000-2010, (8) ethnic values were found in the period 2010-Now.

The following paper is an introduction to the image-analytical methods of objective hermeneutics based on an exemplary analysis of a youth-oriented website. In a methodological sketch, the constitutional and fundamental methodological assumptions, procedures and principles are first explained and substantiated. These will then be carried out using the example of an analysis of the mtv website “A Thin Line” in order to illustrate their practical implementation and to enable self-study.
