Cross sections for electron scattering from atomic and molecular iodine are calculated based on the R-matrix (close-coupling) method. Elastic and electronic excitation cross sections are presented for both I and I2. The dissociative electron attachment and vibrational excitation cross sections of the iodine molecule are obtained using the local complex potential approximation. Ionization cross sections are also computed for I2 using the BEB model.

China’s recent national and international regional development strategies emphasize both the deepening of the domestic market and the exploration of new markets and resource suppliers to support China’s industrialization. The cooperation with, and investment in, Africa has become an integrated part of China’s international regional development strategy. Investment in Africa is often the result of a decision process that requires balance among local complex political, economic, social, and geological conditions. Proper decision support analysis is the key for success or failure of complementary development. Based on location theories, the current study analyzes China’s mining investment in Africa and derives a set of indicators to form the basis for evaluating China’s investment strategies in the mining industries in Africa. A multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approach, the VIKOR method, is applied to evaluate six African countries based on this set of indicators. Results suggest that while resource abundance and value are important factors for mining investment decisions, political stability and local legal system restrictions are weightier in the decision-making process. China’s outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) in mining industries in Africa is more inclined to countries with stable political environment, resource endowment and greater value advantage so that both parties can maximize the benefits from such investment.

Typhoon-induced intense rainfall and urban flooding have endangered the city of Zhoushan every year, urging efficient and accurate flooding prediction. Here, two models (the classical shallow water model that approximates complex buildings by locally refined meshes, and the porous shallow water model that adopts the concept of porosity) are developed and compared for the city of Zhoushan. Specifically, in the porous shallow water model, the building effects on flow storage and conveyance are modeled by the volumetric and edge porosities for each grid, and those on flow resistance are considered by adding extra drag in the flow momentum. Both models are developed under the framework of finite volume method using unstructured triangular grids, along with the Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact (HLLC) approximate Riemann solver for flux computation and a flexible dry-wet treatment that guarantee model accuracy in dealing with complex flow regimes and topography. The pluvial flooding is simulated during the Super Typhoon Lekima in a 46 km2 mountain-bounded urban area, where efficient and accurate flooding prediction is challenged by local complex building geometry and mountainous topography. It is shown that the computed water depth and flow velocity of the two models agree with each other quite well. For a 2.8-day prediction, the computational cost is 120 min for the porous model using 12 cores of the Intel(R) Xeon(R) Platinum 8173M CPU @ 2.00 GHz processor, whereas it is as high as 17,154 min for the classical shallow water model. It indicates a speed-up of 143 times and sufficient pre-warning time by using the porous shallow water model, without appreciable loss in the quantitative accuracy.

This article describes the uniqueness of the local version of traditional clothing of Moksha women who in the mid XIX century resided in the rural localities of Levzha, Perkhlyay, and Suzgarye in the Insar district of the Penza province. The characteristic attributes of women's costume of this period are reflected in the written sources of the Russian Geographical Society. The relevance of this research is defined by the absence of special works on the topic, as well as by the attempt to reconstruct the elements of traditional clothes of the mid  XIX century, which is the first time period used for mapping material culture of the Mordvinian people. The object of this research is the traditional costume of the Mordvinian women; while the subject is the local peculiarities of Moksha women’s costume of the Insar district of Penza province of the mid XIX century, which was characterized by silhouette of the shirt, original style of its wearing with a set of belt ornaments-pendants and loincloth. The goal of this research consists in the analysis of the local peculiarities of Mordvinian (Moksha) women's costume of the mid XIX century and its transformations until the early XX century. The novelty lies in the use previously unpublished handwritten materials of Russian Geographical Society are valuable for reconstructing the historical costume of Moksha women. It is established that in the traditional women’s costume of this territory was a unique phenomenon of material culture, resembling the complex processes of ethnogenesis of the Mordvinian people, hardworking nature of women, results of their creativity, and the national aesthetic canon. The article describes the style of wearing women's blouses shirt. The combination of basic elements of the local complex (shirt and lower waist clothing) allowed the women to wear a short version of the shirt, which did not constrain them in movement or physical work.

This article is devoted to the description of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the magnetic Laplacian in the semiclassical limit via the complex WKB method. Under the assumption that the magnetic field has a unique and non-degenerate minimum, we construct the local complex WKB approximations for eigenfunctions on a general surface. Furthermore, in the case of the Euclidean plane, with a radially symmetric magnetic field, the eigenfunctions are approximated in an exponentially weighted space.

The sanctuary in the area Mishkova Niva near the town of Malko Tarnovo is an ancient object of our cultural heritage. For many years the site is inaccessible because it falls behind the border enclosure, in the nobody area between Bulgaria and Turkey. However, the site is present with bizarre legends in the local complex of folk narratives. It has been studied by several archaeological expeditions, adorned by Laitsi with exotic and modernist stories of fantasy-type, and today it is fully accessible for visits by ordinary and pilgrimage tourists. Many legends turn it into one of the big prides, but also the great care of the Malkotrnovska municipality. Humans, like other animals, are inextricably bound to their local complex web-of-life and cannot exist outside of relationally interwoven ecosystems. Humans are, as such, rooted in a multispecies universe. Human and non-human animals in their variety of forms and abilities have been commensal, companions, prey, and hunters, and archaeology must take this fundamental fact – the cohabiting of the world – to heart. Human societies are, there-fore, not so much human as web-of-species societies. Recently, anthropological theory has explored non-modern societies from the perspective of an anthropology of life which incorporates relationality of local humans and non-human animals, a pursuit that is significant for the diverse contributions in this special section of Current Swedish Archaeology: a themed section which deals with past multispecies intra-actions in a long-term perspective.

Focus of this study is to explore some aspects of mathematical foundations for using complex manifolds as a model for space-time. More specifically, certain equations of motions have been derived as a Projective geodesic on a real manifold embedded within a complex one. To that goal, first the geodesic on complex manifold has been computed using local complex and conjugate coordinates, and then its projection on the real sub-manifold has been studied. The projective geodesic, thus obtained, is shown to have additional terms beyond the usual Christoffel symbols, and hence expands the geodesic to capture effects beyond the mere gravitational ones.

Background: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with insidious onset, which is difficult to be reversed and cured. Therefore, discovering more precise biological information from neuroimaging biomarkers is crucial for accurate and automatic detection of AD. Methods: We innovatively used a Visibility Graph (VG) to construct the time-dependent brain networks as well as functional connectivity network to investigate the underlying dynamics of AD brain based on functional magnetic resonance imaging. There were 32 AD patients and 29 Normal Controls (NCs) from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database. First, the VG method mapped the time series of single brain region into networks. By extracting topological properties of the networks, the most significant features were selected as discriminant features into a supporting vector machine for classification. Furthermore, in order to detect abnormalities of these brain regions in the whole AD brain, functional connectivity among different brain regions was calculated based on the correlation of regional degree sequences. Results: According to the topology abnormalities exploration of local complex networks, we found several abnormal brain regions, including left insular, right posterior cingulate gyrus and other cortical regions. The accuracy of characteristics of the brain regions extracted from local complex networks was 88.52%. Association analysis demonstrated that the left inferior opercular part of frontal gyrus, right middle occipital gyrus, right superior parietal gyrus and right precuneus played a tremendous role in AD. Conclusion: These results would be helpful in revealing the underlying pathological mechanism of the disease.
