Dams are one of the most important hydraulic structures. In view of unrecoverable damages occurring after a dam failure, analyzing a dams’ break is necessary. In this study, a dam located in Iran is considered. According to adjacent tourist and entertainment zones, the breaking of the dam could lead to severe problems for the area and bridges downstream of the river. To investigate the issue, a numerical FORTRAN code based on the 2D finite volume Roe-TVD method on a fixed bed is provided to assess the effects of the dam break. Turbulence terms and dry bed conditions were considered in the code. A numerical wave tank (NWT) with a triangular barrier in the bed was numerically modeled and compared with analytical models to verify the capability of the code. Comparing numerical, experimental and analytical results showed that estimated water level and mass conservation in the numerical model is in good agreement with the experimental data and analytical solutions. The 2D approach used has reduced the cost of computing compared to a 3D approach while obtaining accurate results. The code is finally applied to a full-scale dam-break flood. Six KM of the natural river downstream of the dam, including two bridges, B1 and B2, is considered. Flood flow hydrographs and water level variations at bridges B1 and B2 are presented. The results denoted that bridges B1 and B2 will be flooded after 12 and 21 min, respectively, and are at risk of the potential break. Thus, it is necessary to announce and possibly evacuate the resort area alongside the dam in order to decrease losses.

The purpose of the paper is to summarize and present teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. The main focus lies in the most modern methods of teaching Ukrainian for foreign students of different nationalities who attain higher education in Ukraine. The author reviewed the development of the concepts of emotional intelligence and modern approaches to the determination of the nature and forms of manifestation of empathy in individuals. Empathy is a principal social emotion; in its most general form it is defined as the individual's ability to react emotionally and to respond to other people's experiences. The author emphasizes the feasibility of accounting empathy as part of emotional intelligence, which is key to successful study of the Ukrainian language for foreigners. The value of socio-psychological training as a means to enhance students’ empathy is proven. Emotional intelligence techniques for the formation and development of empathy culture are presented. The formation of students’ emphatically culture promotes social and psychological training, thus enhancing competence in the field of communication and interpersonal skills to acquire. Socio-psychological training covers various methods, such as business and role-playing, discussions and more. It involves the acquisition of psychological and pedagogical knowledge in communication, effective communication skills, for example, to get in touch, listen, persuade others and to form attitudes necessary for successful communication, such as readiness to consider the problem from another point of view; development of abilities of self-examination, to understand other students, and correction system of relations with the outside world. Other techniques appropriate to apply during the stimulation of student culture are widely known such as self-disclosure, emotional response, personal contact (physical, visual, verbal, plastic, object-efficient) jokes, humor and others. The latter are very effective in removing emotional stress, eliminating aggressive or sad states of stress in relationships, and help enhance mental activity. Jokes activate distraction and relax empathy. The development of emotional intelligence in the student regulates that individual’s abilities and traits that are responsible whether the impact of emotional phenomena will be constructive or destructive behavior for the student. Developing emotional intelligence is inextricably linked to the communicative approach to language learning. The teacher should provide comfortable and effective communication between students in class, using the methods above, techniques and creating a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation and helps develop confidence in students. Holistic education must involve the unity of intellectual and emotional areas. Also, this work is devoted to the analysis of existing classifications of dialogues, consideration of advantages and disadvantages of some of their types, to the coverage of methods of extracurricular work with students, their detailed analysis, and identification of their pluses and minuses. The model of the use of more appropriate combinations of types of dialogues is presented in order to achieve the most productive result in language learning. A model of formation of foreign communicative competence is offered. The practice of the proposed methods should allow students to unleash their potential, break language barriers, expand vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and most importantly – increase self-confidence.

Finally, this ultimate chapter offers conclusions and policy implications that are relevant to EU migrant workers who are women within the context of Brexit. The book’s contribution to migration theory, economic migration, gendered migration and debates on Brexit from social policy perspective is offered here. This book offers important insights in relation to EU women migrants in light of Brexit. Policy recommendations with reference to British authorities but also the authorities of migrants’ sending countries are outlined. These are also relevant to the authorities of other EU member states, particularly the EU8 and EU2 countries. This research is relevant to a wider European context for several reasons. The potential break-up of the UK is one of them. Other European countries have also experienced deep divisions and consider holding a referendum about independence. In some EU countries anti-EU sentiment has increased and thus their future in the EU is uncertain and perhaps also depends on how the UK manages this transition. These divisions and increased hostility directed towards the European Union demonstrate that Europe is divided and many countries look inwards for protectionist measures hence nationalism is on the rise.

Inventory is an important part of the company's assets that every day experience changes that require a control system. At manufacturing, inventory control must be carried out effectively and efficiently, so that the company's operations to run optimally. This should be supported by an integrated control system of the manufacturing company. in this era of globalization, all companies in general have used computer-based information systems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the MABS program as a system of information in controlling inventory of finished goods. Evaluation was conducted to determine whether the program MABS in controlling inventory of finished goods was effective and efficient, and evaluate about the admission procedure and finished goods expenditure. Research by the author is in PT Cahaya Buana Intitama located in Sentul, Bogor. PT Cahaya Buana Intitama a manufacturing company as a manufacturer of furniture products. The results showed that PT Cahaya Buana Intitama MABS program has been implemented effectively and efficiently in controlling inventory of finished goods. It is in view of the admission procedures and expenditures so goes according to pre-defined system, the procedure also pengoperasiaan MABS program has berjlalan optimally. MABS program can also provide complete information, quickly and accurately in accordance with company requirements. This program can also make the company's financial statements. Evaluation results of this research show that there are some things that must be considered by PT Cahaya Buana Intitama, namely the placement of data entry space less effective, it should be placed at the entrance and exit of goods, is not placed on the area, this will result in potential break-out goods in and goods out. Not maximal protection system on the MABS program that will result in the data input errors, and could affect the reporting of finished goods inventory, also can affect the company's financial reporting, then it should be added to the system of protection of the MABS program. Thus can minimize data input errors

In this study, the European biogas market and its potential are analyzed. The four countries with the biggest biogas production and potential, namely Germany, Italy, France, and the UK, are studied in detail. Particular attention is paid to their agricultural characteristics (livestock population, average number of cattle per agricultural holding, number of farms), as well as their policy and market conditions (feed-in tariffs, average biogas investment costs). A financial model is built and used to compare the four countries, based on the net present value as the performance indicator. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are considered as a more efficient alternative for valorizing agricultural-derived biogas, which, at the moment, is vastly done with cheaper conventional engines. After an analysis of the economic merits, target farm sizes are recommended for each country. It is shown that the low valorization of manure-derived biogas in Europe offers a big opportunity for the commercialization of SOFCs and for a push toward mass production. Considering the high installation costs, it is still primordial that policy-makers incentivize the installation of biogas plants throughout the EU.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] The stories in "Escalations" cover a range of formal and dramatic content and operate on a sliding scale with regards to realism and surrealism: a woman waits in the darkness of her home for her husband, gun in hand, to investigate a potential break-in; a distracted husband realizes he has mistakenly returned from the grocery store with a woman who is not his wife; a small town's peacetime celebration leads to a disastrous dove infestation. Other stories foreground the manner of their telling: a surveillance team is contracted to follow a mysterious woman, only to find their desire for explanation and discovery delayed and thwarted; a middle-aged man's heroic rescue of a drowning child is ignored by the pool-side audience's criticism of his technique. Regardless the material or the narrative approach to the material, each story explores the conflicts that arise as characters navigate the tumultuous co-existence of both a private and public life. My critical introduction, "Missing Persons: Character Reduction and Recalcitrance in the Short Story," argues that a study of the concept of character in the short story distinguishes key issues of narrative ideology and craft that must be considered if one is to accept the short story on its own terms. Borrowing Austin M. Wright's term for how a work's material resists the shaping influence of its form, and extending his scope beyond issues of structure and closure, I propose that the short story demonstrates significant recalcitrance when it comes to the "visibility" of character. In the same way that a literary work becomes trivial when its form is entirely perceived, so do characters lose their vitality and mystery when they are completely understood. My critical introduction will examine the ways in which the short story limits, delays, and obscures the exposure of its characters as a method of productive resistance. It will ultimately argue that when character “visibility” and exposure is reduced or diminished, the character is more defined by the situation in which they are read than by our knowledge and understanding of them as individuals.

Australia’s geographical location (within ‘Asia’)—seen as a negative into the twenty-first century when the nation defined itself as culturally and aspirationally linked to the major Euro-American metropolitan cultural centres (the ‘West’)—must now be reevaluated. After two hundred years of white settlement and of turning its back on the region in which it is located, some Australian writers are writing texts that illuminate an aspect of Australian literature that is in transition, becoming, by definition, in, of, and with the region as well as in, of, and with present time. Art historian Terry Smith’s theory of the three currents of contemporary art, particularly the third current, suggests a new paradigm, a potential break from modernism, and a different kind of entanglement and interconnection in a world that is witnessing shifts in world power, voluntary and involuntary mass movements of people, and real time global communication technologies. Adrian Snodgrass and David Coyne’s application of hermeneutical theory to the architectural design studio via the metaphor of excursion and return illuminates some imaginative intersections, understandings and energies in three texts by Australian authors—Michelle De Kretser, Chi Vu and Jennifer Mackenzie. In Smith’s terms too, the texts perform original leaps of the imagination in their diversity, freshness, and ability to surprise and invite questions about literature’s potential to stir up prior understandings and invite new ways of being in the present. In terms of Giorgio Agamben’s definition of the contemporary, the three texts bring the reader to a plurality and intercultural connectedness that we have yet to fully recognise and live. They represent a line of flight towards a literary imaginary in Australian writing that is contemporary, locally grounded, but also regionally and globally entangled.

<p><em>This paper employs a quarterly time series to determine the timing of structural breaks for interest rates in USA over the last 60 years. <strong>The Chow test</strong> is used for investigating the non-stationary, where the date of the potential break is assumed to be known. Moreover, we empirically examined the deviation from an assumed interest rate as given in a standard Taylor rule and consequences on financial sectors. The empirical analysis is strengthened by analysing the rule from a historical perspective and look at the effect of setting the interest rate by the central bank on financial imbalances. The empirical evidence indicates that deviation in monetary policy has a potential causal factor in the build up of financial imbalances and the subsequent crisis where macro prudential intervention could have beneficial effect. Thus, our findings tend to support the view, which states that the probable existence of central banks has been one source of global financial crisis since the past decade.</em></p>
