PurposeThe paper aims to examine whether financial advisors can understand the symbols and meaning that investors associate with money and whether such ability plays any role in enhancing the advisor-investor relationship in terms of satisfaction, level of trust, referral propensity and loyalty.Design/methodology/approach The authors used a dyadic research design. A total of 186 dyads of financial advisors and their clients took part in the study and completed two parallel self-administered questionnaires.Findings The authors found that financial advisors often can detect the emotional associations that their clients attribute to money. Such ability can enhance their relationship with investors.Research limitations/implicationsThe main limitation of this study is its exploratory nature and the convenience sampling technique that was adopted. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the main findings further.Practical implicationsThe results have implications for the development of ad-hoc psychological training to enhance the relationship between financial advisors and investors. Understanding the symbolic meanings and the emotions that clients associate with money may be a prerequisite for a financial services company to succeed and be competitive in the sector.Originality/valueDespite acknowledging that money is not a neutral object but is layered with symbolic meanings and emotional associations, the behavioral finance literature has so far neglected to study these implications from either a theoretical or a practical point of view. This paper aims to fill this gap by investigating the symbolic value of money in the financial services industry.

The geopolitical, socio-cultural, economic changes that have burst into society in connection with the pandemic are the impetus for the development of extremist manifestations and the terrorist threat, which determines and emphasizes the relevance and vital need for a deeper study and improvement of psychological support and psychological training of police officers in places of mass activities. The article examines the features of conflict situations that arise among police officers in the activity of protecting public order during mass events. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the experience of the police in Lower Saxony (FRG) and the current police officers in Russia. Thus, a survey of police officers (85 senior officers) enrolled in refresher courses in 2018-2019 revealed the main positive examples of successful actions: work with leaders (instigators of mass riots), including their operational isolation (40% respondents); coordinated work of all forces and means involved in the protection of public order, at the same time, timely and reliable information to the head of the operational headquarters (40% of respondents); tightening the access control and cutting the crowd into sectors (50% of the respondents), etc. In the conclusion, the main tasks are outlined, by which police officers will be able to minimize conflict situations in special conditions.

The article is devoted to the question of the possible improvement of the psychological examination of persons previously examined in alcoholic intoxication (hereinafter—PEAI). The authors propose an original view on the definition of the target of «alcohol screening», the principles and methods of assessing psychological markers of the systematic substance abuse. Purpose of the study: to determine the differential diagnostic significance of identifying the profile of the lateral organization (hereinafter—PLO) when assessing of the systematic of alcohol abuse in those previously examined in a state of alcoholic intoxication. The researchers made an attempt to highlight the features of PLO of such a «risk group» as those previously examined in a state of alcoholic intoxication (based on data obtained during the study according to the typology of E.D. Khomskaya (with a combination of three types of asymmetries: manual, auditory-verbal and visual) of lateral preferences of 19 PEAI patients of the branch of the Moscow Research and Practical Center for Narcology). As a result, the tendency of those previously examined in the state of intoxication to the lack of a «leading ear» and «leading eye», significant differences in the distribution of the attribute «leading hand» among those previously examined in a state of alcoholic intoxication and in the population were revealed. Conclusion. According to the results of this study, it is difficult to assume the presence of a significant differential diagnostic significance of PLO detection during «alcohol screening» among those previously examined in a state of alcoholic intoxication. At the same time, it should be noted that taking into account lateral preferences can contribute to the improvement of preventive work programs in the narcological service, providing greater individualization of psychological support measures. Directly in the rehabilitation work with PEAI, it is advisable to actively apply social and psychological training (because of a significant part of the contingent among the main factors of relapse with a high degree of probability has social stressors). The creation of short-term (3-5 meetings) programs of group exercises of a preventive orientation, which have different targets depending on the «vulnerability factors» of the owners of certain lateral profiles, also seems justified.

The research involved 110 police patrol officers who served in the Internal Affairs Agencies from six months to one year. Research methods has been presented by psychodiagnostics tools: I. N. Gurvich's multidimensional scale of neuropsychiatric adaptation, V. A. Vinokur's test «Attitude to work and professional burnout» for specialists in «assisting» professions, as well as methods of mathematical statistics. The research revealed an average level of professional burnout and adaptation problems in 31 % of respondents. The research found that employees with a low level of adaptation experience states of emotional exhaustion and tension in the activity. Signs of health problems and general adaptive capacity were identified at the level of statistical significance. Reliable values indicating a decrease in the general self-esteem of the respondents, the low importance of activity and the lack of focus on professional development in conditions of impaired adaptation were established. The results allow us to develop corrective courses as part of the moral and psychological training of police officers, aimed at the prevention of professional deformations of personality.

The relevance of the article is caused by the presence of a large proportion of anxious adolescents who need a timely solution to the existing psychological problem. The aim of the article is to test ideas related to the justification of a cycle of ten training sessions "To be in harmony with yourself", providing scientific and methodological equipment for the process of understanding the causes of adolescent anxiety, as well as ways to prevent or overcome it, taking into account common and differentiated situational and personal resources. The training provides for the possibility of mastering ways to reduce anxiety at the early stages of establishing socio-psychological contact by a teenager. It provides the identification of their own personal resources, the development of ways to use them in situations of increased anxiety, the consolidation of self-regulation skills, taking into account general features and the characteristic type of anxiety. The emphasis is placed on consolidating the experience of positive changes, taking into account the real conditions of the manifestation of reactive or personal anxiety. The approach to creating psychological training for anxious adolescents based on the proposed ideas can be used in applied research and in the professional activity of a teacher-psychologist.

In this paper, we evaluate the effects of a psychological training, called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on stress and risk and time preferences. MBSR is a well-known psychological technique, which is believed to improve self-control and reduce stress. We conduct the experiment with 139 participants, half of whom receive the MBSR training, while the other half are asked to watch a documentary series, both over 4 consecutive weeks. Using a range of self-reported and physiological measures (such as cortisol measures), we find evidence that mindfulness training reduces perceived stress, but we only find weak evidence of effects on risk and inter-temporal attitudes.
