PurposeThis study endeavours to (a) develop a comprehensive interpretive structural modelling (ISM) toolkit containing sufficient details about the suitability and procedural aspects of each ISM approach and offer points of reference for budding researchers, (b) highlight the compatibility of ISM approaches with other qualitative and quantitative approaches, and (c) chalk-out an agenda for future research.Design/methodology/approachThis study is based on an extensive review of 74 studies where researchers have used one or more ISM approaches. These studies span across the different industry sectors.FindingsThere exists a huge void in terms of the methodological synthesis of ISM approaches. ISM approaches are frequently used in sync with other qualitative and quantitative approaches. Furthermore, it highlights the need of improving the robustness of the proposed ISM models by sharing the critical details of research process.Research limitations/implicationsBeing a review-based work, it could not illustrate the discussed ISM approaches with real data. However, it offers a research agenda for the prospective researchers.Practical implicationsThe prerequisites, pitfalls, suitability and the procedural aspects of various ISM approaches contained in this toolkit are equally useful for the academicians as well as practitioners.Originality/valueIn the absence of a synthesized framework, this study contributes a comprehensive ISM toolkit which will help the researchers to choose a suitable ISM approach in a given case.

Background: This study is about using language in social media to politeness among students. Many of them pay less attention to the ethics of using language on social media. The emergence of these harsh languages creates terrible habits related to politeness and offense in society. Purpose: This study aims to determine the form of speech and the influence of communication ethics in the digital era on the value of politeness among students. Methods: This study combines qualitative and quantitative approaches that describe the data results through analysis and description. Researchers used reference results from previous studies along with results from questionnaires and interviews that had been conducted. Results: The results showed that many students still used short forms of language when communicating on social media. The use of harsh languages is influenced by several supporting factors such as lack of awareness in language politeness, lack of family education, and poor socialization environment. Recommendation: This research is intended for students to be more aware of the importance of ethics in communicating on social media. Limitation: The lack of respondents and measurement tools in this study makes the validity of the data found is not very good.

The purpose of this study was to determine teachers’ approaches to Marzano’s effective instructional strategies (MEISs), as defined by Marzano, Pickering and Pollack (2001) in the secondary schools in Turkey and Russia and tell whether they differ or not. In this study survey research – one of the quantitative approaches – was carried out. The participants for the study were 54 teachers of English in Turkey and 40 teachers of English in Russia. “The Effective Instructional Strategies Questionnaire” and an open-ended questionnaire were used to gather data. Data was generated utilizing content analysis and non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test. The results related to the first and second research questions revealed that there were partial differences between Turkish and Russian teachers’ approaches to Marzano’s nine effective instructional strategies and to usage of these strategies. Turkish teachers place less importance than Russian teachers on such strategies as summarizing and note taking, homework and practice, generating and testing hypothesis. As to Russian teachers, they do not espouse strategies in the category of non-linguistic representations as much as Turkish teachers do. The results of the study showed that Turkish and Russian teachers’ approaches and the usage of the strategies differ.

This research is aimed at: 1) describing the sound correspondence set of two sub dialects; 2) describing kinds of proto phonemes pattern in Jambi Malay sub dialect  and Bungo Malay sub dialect. There are three steps conducted in the research, they are collecting data, analyzing data, and presenting the result of analysis. In collecting data, the writer used observational method by applying the elicitation technique, which is continued by several techniques, i. e  facing conversation, taking note, and recording technique. In analyzing data, the writer also used qualitative and quantitative approaches. Qualitative approach is used in order to show the sound correspondence between two sub dialects. Then, the comparative method is used to compare  and determine the inheritance pattern toward two sub dialects. The result of analysis are: 1) there are two of sound correspondences rules that mostly found in ultima and penultima position. namel  r ~ R /- η # /and  ə ~ ə /# b – In addition, inherited linearly, inherited with changes, and linearly with lost. The linearly inherited can be seen from some vocal of protolanguage, /*i/, /*a/, /*ə/  also consonant /*b/, /*l/, /*m/, /*p/, /*g/, /*s/, /*η/, /*k/, /*h/. Furthermore, dealing with Proto Austronesia language, it is also found that some proto phonemes are showing the alteration, namely innovation.

Abstract. Several British specimens of relatively complete and partial shells of small pleurosternid turtles, found in the Purbeck Limestone Group (Berriasian, Lower Cretaceous), are analysed in detail here. Despite having been found more than a century ago, most of them remained unpublished until now. Due to the scarce knowledge available to date about the small individuals of Pleurosternidae from the British record, their taxonomic status was doubtful. Thus, some authors proposed their attribution to a new but not defined taxon of small size, whereas others suggested that they could represent juvenile individuals of Pleurosternon bullockii, the adults of which were also found in the Purbeck Limestone Group but at different levels. Knowledge about the shell of the adult individuals of Pleurosternon bullockii has notably increased recently, abundant information on its intraspecific variability being currently available. In this context, a detailed study of the small specimens through qualitative and quantitative approaches is performed here. The results are evidence a significant range of shape variability because of ontogenetic development, as well as other types of intraspecific variation such as inter-individual variation. As a consequence, their attribution to juvenile individuals of Pleurosternon bullockii is justified, providing new data on the ontogenetic development of a basal form.

From a critical point of view, tourism activity in the parishes of Catacocha, Casanga and Yamana is limited only to natural attractions and cultural manifestations, leaving aside the vernacular architecture of the heritage houses as a possible tourism resource. In this context, the research aims to identify vernacular architecture as a resource for tourism. The methodology used was based on criteria of selection, purification, sifting and properties of housing, these criteria with qualitative and quantitative approaches, in addition the encueta was used to determine the effective demand for tourism development. The results of the research showed that the owners are willing to venture into tourism-related activities based on the use of vernacular architecture.  It is concluded that the research is strategic for the authorities to take initiatives in the promotion and dissemination of this heritage that is extensive in the territory and to generate that the owners empower themselves of the great architectural wealth they possess and venture into tourism.

Purpose This paper presents a review of research methodologies used in addressing problems in the financial management of property and construction journals from 2005 to 2020. Design/methodology/approach Content analysis of 258 research papers published in the Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction was carried out, enabling the exploration of research approaches, epistemology, strategies, data collection and data analysis methods used in addressing problems researched in the area of financial management of property and construction Findings The findings show that quantitative approaches and methods dominate, whereas qualitative and mixed methods were prominent in-depth understanding of a topics were needed. Interestingly, almost a third of the publications did not adopt quantitative approaches. In some journal issues, there was relatively high use of qualitative and multi-method approaches and up to 12% of the articles published over the past 16 years could be described as based on pragmatism. Research limitations/implications An important implication of this paper is that a conventionally number-based area of research does not preclude the use of qualitative and mixed approaches. The findings are only generalisable to the Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction. Practical implications Financial management researchers could benefit greatly by considering pluralistic approaches more in the design of their studies. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is an original synthesis of the articles published between 2005 and 2020. It provides new insight into the use of research methodologies by authors and how they have been combined to address their research problems. It further investigates an old issue or question about methodological choice-making using new evidence and original empirical work.
