In the present study, experimental investigations on microstructures and tensile properties of an counter-pressure cast (CPC) A356 aluminum alloy under different T5 heat treatment conditions were conducted in the temperature range of 160–200 ∘C for 1–48 h. As the T5 heat treatment time increased, both tensile and yield strength of the CPC A356 alloy either continuously increased at 160 ∘C until 48 h of heat treatment time or increased until the maximum strength values were achieved and then decreased, showing peak aging behavior at 180 and 200 ∘C. Changes in microstructural aspects, such as size and aspect ratio, of the eutectic Si, Mg and Si distribution in the α-Al grain and the stability of intermetallic compounds were found to be negligible during the T5 heat treatments employed in the present study. From high resolution-transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM) analysis, nanosized needle-like β′′ precipitates were identified in the specimens, showing a significant increase in strength after the T5 heat treatment. Based on the measured tensile properties and observed microstructure changes, a yield strength model was proposed to predict yield strengths of CPC A356 alloys at arbitrary T5 heat treatment conditions. The calculation results of the model showed good agreement with the experimental data obtained in the present study. From the model calculations, the optimal T5 heat treatment time or temperature conditions were suggested.

Nano-crystals were formed in the exposed regions of photo-thermo-refractive glass undergoing irradiation with zeroth order chirp-controlled ultrafast laser Bessel beams and subsequent heat treatment. Effects of various writing powers, pulse durations and heat treatment time on the distribution and the size of the nano-crystals were investigated. The results show that nano-crystals’ distribution depended on the laser power density spatial shape, while the size of the nano-crystals is quasi-independent. However, the average diameter of the nano-crystals was affected by the heat treatment time, decreasing from 175 to 105 nm with the time halved. In addition, using crystallographic characterization by X-ray diffraction, the nano-crystal composition in the laser-exposed regions was detected to be sodium fluoride.

Spent lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries contain abundant strategic lithium resources and are thus considered attractive secondary lithium sources. However, these batteries may contaminate the environment because they contain hazardous materials. In this work, a novel process involving low-temperature heat treatment is used as an alternative pretreatment method for recycling spent LFP batteries. When the temperature reaches 300°C, the dissociation effect of the anode material gradually improves with heat treatment time. At the heat treatment time of 120 minutes, an electrode material can be dissociated. The extension of heat treatment time has a minimal effect on quality loss. The physicochemical changes in thermally treated solid cathode and anode materials are examined through scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The heat treatment results in the complete separation of the materials from aluminium foil without contamination. The change in heat treatment temperature has a small effect on the quality of LFP material shedding. When the heat treatment temperature reaches 300°C and the time reaches 120 minutes, heat treatment time increases, and the yield of each particle size is stable and basically unchanged. The method can be scaled up and may reduce environmental pollution due to waste LFP batteries.
