Sleep spindles are developmentally relevant cortical oscillatory patterns; however, they have mostly been studied by considering the entire spindle frequency range (11 to 15 Hz) without a distinction between the functionally and topographically different slow and fast spindles, using relatively few electrodes and analysing wide age-ranges. Here, we employ HD-EEG polysomnography in three age-groups between 12 to 20 years of age, with an equal distribution between the two genders, and analyse the adolescent developmental pattern of the four major parameters of slow and fast sleep spindles. Most of our findings corroborate those very few previous studies that also make a distinction between slow and fast spindles in their developmental analysis. We find spindle frequency increasing with age, although spindle density change is not obvious in our study. We confirm the declining tendencies for amplitude and duration, although within narrower, more specific age-windows than previously. Spindle frequency seems to be higher in females in the oldest age-group. Based on the pattern of our findings, we suggest that HD-EEG, specifically targeting slow and fast spindle ranges and relatively narrow age-ranges would advance the understanding of both adolescent development and the functional relevance of sleep spindles in general.

A developmental analysis of the two waves: 2008 and 2016 ESS Indicators of social engagement (we mean here organisational engagement) are treated as a measure of the process of social modernisation (Herrmann, 1999, Matei, Apostu, 2012). It is assumed here that higher scores of indicators demonstrate the 'maturity of civil society, the quality of the functioning of democracy and the process of its evolution (Boulding, 2010). The concept of generalised trust and trust in political institutions have a somewhat similar status, and they are treated as indicators of collective capacity and a premise for conclusions about the effectiveness of the development processes (Putnam, 1993, Sonderskov, 2011). The proposed presentation will focus on the changes we were able to register over eight years in Poland and Bulgaria (2008 and 2018) to indicate the position of the societies of these post-communist countries in comparison to other European countries. The main hypotheses would be to verify the relationship between trust indicators and declared involvement in NGO sector organisations as well as basic sociodemographic variables in a temporal perspective. The quantitative analysis will be preceded by a form of qualitative description and interpretation of the existing state of knowledge. ESS data would be used for the analysis, and the basis for inference will be the indices of “generalised trust”, “trust in national political institutions”, and “involvement in NGO” using regression analysis.

This chapter explains why and how the Faith Development Interview (FDI) allows the reconstruction of biographical paths to xenosophia and how this was realized in the Bielefeld Study of Xenosophia and Religion in Germany. Thus, we first describe the conceptual framework in Fowler's theory and research and the model of religious styles, to locate xenosophia in this framework. Second, we detail the evaluation procedure of the FDI, including the explication of our current methodological modifications of the FDI evaluation procedure, which, beyond the structural-developmental analysis, includes the interpretation of narratives and content dimensions that are elicited by the FDI questions. Finally, we explain the triangulation of FDI evaluations with questionnaire data, from which case studies profit greatly.

Transgelins are a conserved family of actin-binding proteins involved in cytoskeletal remodeling, cell contractility, and cell shape. In both mammals and Drosophila, three genes encode transgelin proteins. Transgelins exhibit a broad and overlapping expression pattern, which has obscured the precise identification of their role in development. Here, we report the first systematic developmental analysis of all Drosophila transgelin proteins, namely, Mp20, CG5023, and Chd64 in the living organism. Drosophila transgelins display overall higher sequence identity with mammalian TAGLN-3 and TAGLN-2 than with TAGLN. Detailed examination in different developmental stages revealed that Mp20 and CG5023 are predominantly expressed in mesodermal tissues with the onset of myogenesis and accumulate in the cytoplasm of all somatic muscles and heart in the late embryo. Notably, at postembryonic developmental stages, Mp20 and CG5023 are detected in the gut’s circumferential muscles with distinct subcellular localization: Z-lines for Mp20 and sarcomere and nucleus for CG5023. Only CG5023 is strongly detected in the adult fly in the abdominal, leg, and synchronous thoracic muscles. Chd64 protein is primarily expressed in endodermal and ectodermal tissues and has a dual subcellular localization in the cytoplasm and the nucleus. During the larval–pupae transition, Chd64 is expressed in the brain, eye, legs, halteres, and wings. In contrast, in the adult fly, Chd64 is expressed in epithelia, including the alimentary tract and genitalia. Based on the non-overlapping tissue expression, we predict that Mp20 and CG5023 mostly cooperate to modulate muscle function, whereas Chd64 has distinct roles in epithelial, neuronal, and endodermal tissues.

This study was aimed to ascertain the impact of lockdown and service conditions on daily hassles and depression from a developmental perspective.It was contended that (1) variation in each would cause variation in the magnitude of daily hassles and depression (2) employed women would feel more hassles and depression as compared to those who were only homemakers and (3) the period of lockdown would evince more depression as compared to pre- lockdown period. 240 participants ranging between 30- 50 years of age were taken into consideration and they were held from Almora and Haldwani,cities of Uttarakhand. Participants were arranged according to the requirements of 2x2x2 factorial design with 2 levels of age ( 30-35 years and 45-50 years), 2 types of service conditions (employed and unemployed), and 2 types of the time period (pre-lockdown and during lockdown) i.e.30 participants per cell.Depression scale by Shamim & Tiwari and Daily hazels scale by Shukla & Joshi were used. Data collection was done individually/ in-group as for the availability of the participants. Data were analyzed by 3-way Analysis of Variance and it was noted that depression and daily hassles were increased with advancing age and during the lockdown period. Moreover, it was also found that employed women faced more depression and daily hassles as compared to homemakers. Findings were interpreted in terms of chronological age,service conditions,and time period as effectors of daily hazels and depression. At last, recommendations were made to minimize the magnitude of daily hazels and depression in women.

The genitalia present some of the most rapidly evolving anatomical structures in the animal kingdom, possessing a variety of parts that can distinguish recently diverged species. In the Drosophila melanogaster group, the phallus is adorned with several processes, pointed outgrowths, that are similar in size and shape between species. However, the complex three-dimensional nature of the phallus can obscure the exact connection points of each process. Previous descriptions based upon adult morphology have primarily assigned phallic processes by their approximate positions in the phallus and have remained largely agnostic regarding their homology relationships. In the absence of clearly identified homology, it can be challenging to model when each structure first evolved. Here, we employ a comparative developmental analysis of these processes in eight members of the melanogaster species group to precisely identify the tissue from which each process forms. Our results indicate that adult phallic processes arise from three pupal primordia in all species. We found that in some cases the same primordia generate homologous structures whereas in other cases, different primordia produce phenotypically similar but remarkably non-homologous structures. This suggests that the same gene regulatory network may have been redeployed to different primordia to induce phenotypically similar traits. Our results highlight how traits diversify and can be redeployed, even at short evolutionary scales.

Abstract Sapindaceae lianas are remarkable for the diversity of cambial variants found in their stems. One of the family’s exclusive cambial variant is the divided vascular cylinder, which occurs in eight species of the genus Serjania. This cambial variant is marked by 5 peripheral vascular cylinders around a large pith. We performed a comparative developmental analysis, integrating traditional plant anatomy techniques with high-resolution X-ray micro-computed tomography to investigate the structure and development of the stems of three species with divided vascular cylinder. Our observations showed that the initial stages of stem development were similar to those described in the literature, however, on later developmental stages a central vascular cylinder appears in all species. The ontogeny of these stems are marked by three main processes: (i) dissection of vascular tissue from the peripheral vascular cylinders; (ii) development of new cambial arcs through the redifferentiation of pith cells; and (iii) recruitment of cambial cells from the inner portions of the vascular cambium of the peripheral vascular cylinders, forming a novel central vascular cylinder where the pith was, surrounded by five initial peripheral cylinders. As an ulterior developmental stage, some older stems also develop neoformations and connections between the different vascular cylinders. While our findings support previous descriptions of divided vascular cylinders, this is the first study illustrating the formation of the central vascular cylinder in this cambial variant. Our observations further corroborate that Serjania is the lineage with the highest and some of the most complex forms of cambial variants among all vascular plants.
