Designing electrical drives resistant to the failures of chosen sensors has recently become increasingly popular due to the possibility of their use in fault-tolerant control (FTC) systems including drives for electric vehicles. In this article, a virtual current sensor (VCS) based on an algorithmic method for the reconstruction of the induction motor (IM) phase currents after current sensor faults was proposed. This stator current estimator is based only on the measurements of the DC-bus voltage in the intermediate circuit of the voltage-source inverter (VSI) and a rotor speed. This proposal is dedicated to fault-tolerant vector controlled IM drives, where it is necessary to switch to scalar control as a result of damage to the current sensors. The proposed VCS allows further uninterrupted operation of the direct rotor-field oriented control (DRFOC) of the induction motor drive. The stator current estimator has been presented in the form of equations, enabling its practical implementation in a microprocessor system. Simulation studies of the proposed algorithm in an open and closed-loop DRFOC structure are presented under different operation conditions of the drive system. The experimental verification of the proposed method is also presented and the accuracy of the stator current estimation algorithm is analyzed under various operating conditions of the drive system.

This paper proposes a speed-loop periodic controller design for fault-tolerant surface permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drive systems. Faulty conditions, including an open insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), a short-circuited IGBT, or a Hall-effect current sensor fault are investigated. The fault-tolerant SPMSM drive system using a speed-loop periodic controller has better performance than when using a speed-loop PI controller under normal or faulty conditions. The superiority of the proposed speed-loop-periodic-controller-based SPMSM drive system includes faster transient responses and better load disturbance responses. A detailed design of the speed-loop periodic controller and its related fault-tolerant method, including fault detection, diagnosis, isolation, and control are included. In addition, a current estimator is also proposed to estimate the stator current. When the Hall-effect current sensor is faulty, the estimated current is used to replace the current of the faulty sensor. A 32-bit digital signal processor, type TMS-320F-2808, is used to execute the fault-tolerant method and speed-loop periodic control. Measured experimental results validate the theoretical analysis. The proposed implementation of a fault-tolerant SPMSM drive system and speed-loop periodic controller design can be easily applied in industry due to its simplicity.

LLC resonant converters with center-tapped transformers are widely used. However, these converters suffer from a flux walking issue, which causes a larger output ripple and possible transformer saturation. In this paper, a flux-balance control strategy is proposed for resolving the flux walking issue. First, the DC magnetizing current generated due to the mismatched secondary-side leakage inductances, and its effects on the voltage gain are analyzed. From the analysis, the flux-balance control strategy, which is based on the original output-voltage control loop, is proposed. Since the DC magnetizing current is not easily measured, a current sensing strategy with a current estimator is proposed, which only requires one current sensor and is easy to estimate the DC magnetizing current. Finally, a simulation scheme and a hardware prototype with rated output power 200 W, input voltage 380 V, and output voltage 20 V is constructed for verification. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control strategy effectively reduces the DC magnetizing current and output voltage ripple at mismatched condition.

A motion tracking system made from affordable hardware components is implemented to be used inside the University of Kufa (UoK) buildings to track and detect any suspicious activities. The current research objectives are to automatically monitor, track intruders using sensors, servo, and camera that occurs around the system using Arduino microcontroller. The mounted camera track, capture the moving object and sending a live broadcast to a receiving host which could be a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or a smartphone. In this study, we consider the problem of automated position estimation using the electronic circuit of inexpensive binary motion sensors. We present simulation and experiments with Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensors that suggest our current estimator. Fritzing software simulator is used to test and draw the circuits of the system. The proposed design worked efficiently during the experiments and shown high performance with 360 degrees of detection for the sensing environments.
